French authorities are searching the home of IMF Chief Christine Lagarde over a probe into a million-dollar payout to a supporter of ex-President Sarkozy. Lagarde has been under investigation since 2011, but denies any wrongdoing.
Lagarde’s lawyer told to Reuters that the search would exonerate her client of all criminal responsibility in connection with the Tapie affair.
"This search will help uncover the truth, which will contribute to exonerating my client from any criminal wrongdoing," Lagarde's lawyer, Yves Repiquet, told Reuters.
Police are investigating allegations that Lagarde acted illegally as finance minister in 2008 when she approved a payout of 285 million euro ($367 million) to business mogul Bernard Tapie.
The Court of Justice of the Republic ordered a probe into the case under the suspicion that Lagarde had committed an abuse of power by releasing the funds to Tapie. The then socialist opposition alleged that Nicolas Sarkozy’s government was rewarding the businessman Tapie for his support during the 2007 elections.
The French authorities stepped up their investigation into the case in January when they raided the homes of Mr Tapie and Lagarde’s then chief of staff Stephane Richard.
Lagarde, who has always maintained her innocence, spoke out against the raids at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
“It [the arbitration] was the best solution at the time and I believe I made the right choice,” Lagarde told France 2. She pledged her complete cooperation with the authorities in the ongoing case.
Lagarde assumed the role of chief of the IMF in 2011 after her predecessor Dominique Strauss-Kahn resigned because of rape allegations.
Sarkozy’s 2007 campaign
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy also had his property searched in July of last year in connection with illegal donations received during his 2007 election campaign.
Sarkozy was accused of accepting tens of thousands of euro from Liliane Bettancourt, France’s richest woman, during his campaign.
French law dictates that any benefactor can only donate 4,600 euro (US$5,800) at a time to an election campaign.

How Refined Carbs Affect Blood Sugar

How Refined Carbs Affect Blood Sugar

There's a mountain of conflicting information out there about carbs
and understandably, many people's heads are spinning as to what carbs, if ANY, they should eat.

First and foremost, carbs are VITAL to your body's functioning. Carbs get broken down into glucose, which is your body's primary fuel. Glucose is the main source of energy for muscle function, your central nervous system and especially your brain.
So putting it bluntly, without carbs you DIE.
BUT, it's important to know the difference between the various kinds of carbs because it can have a dramatic impact on your blood sugar and your overall state of health.
So here's some important information you must have to make a wise decision about the carbs that YOU eat:
Simple carbs versus complex carbs
Simple carbs are comprised of one or two sugar molecules. They're broken down VERY quickly by your body and absorbed directly into your bloodstream, creating a tidal wave of glucose flooding your veins.
Examples include table sugar, raw sugar, honey and maple syrup.
Fruit is also considered a simple carbohydrate, but the sugar in fruit (fructose) is metabolized by your liver before it gets to the bloodstream, so it raises your blood glucose level MUCH slower.
Plus fresh fruit also has the added health benefits of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, water and fiber.
Complex carbs, on the other hand, are made up of long strains of sugar molecules, otherwise known as starches. It takes your body MUCH longer to digest complex carbs, so they provide a slow, even, steady supply of glucose to your bloodstream.
Examples of complex carbs include whole grains, vegetables and legumes.
And the hybrid -- refined carbs
Thanks to food manufacturers, we now have a "hybrid" carb to deal with--refined carbs. They include white flour and all products made with it (white bread, cookies, pastries, pasta, donuts, bagels, etc.)
Refined carbs start out as complex carbs (in this case, a grain of wheat), but the processing strips away most of the vitamins, enzymes, minerals and fiber that were in the original grain.
Once the grain is "stripped" of all its beneficial components, you're basically left with...sugar. So refined carbs act just like simple carbs, flooding your bloodstream with glucose.

The health cost of too many simple and refined carbs
Hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), type II diabetes and obesity are the most common results of eating too many simple and refined carbs.
What happens is this:
When your bloodstream gets flooded with glucose, your body sends an SOS to the pancreas. Then the pancreas releases insulin which tells your cells to "take in" the glucose, thereby bringing your blood glucose level back to where it should be.
But when your bloodstream is flooded with glucose repeatedly, day in and day out, your pancreas gets overworked. Eventually it can get to the point where it can't keep up with your insulin needs anymore and/or your cells become resistant to the insulin (they "ignore" the signal to take in the glucose).
This causes a buildup of glucose in your blood...otherwise known as hyperglycemia and eventually if it continues, type II diabetes.
Plus, obesity results because your cells can only "take in" so much glucose when the insulin comes a-knocking...and the excess over and above what they need is stored as FAT.

Here's the flip side -- HYPOglycemia
Although it's not as common of a problem as HYPERglycemia, eating too many simple and refined carbs can also lead to the flip side--low blood sugar (or HYPOglycemia).
Here's how:
When your bloodstream is consistently flooded with glucose like I described above, sometimes the pancreas can OVERreact and release waaay too MUCH insulin.
This causes your blood sugar level to plummet through the floor!
When this happens, that sounds the alarm for your adrenal glands to tell your body to pull out some of its stored glucose and put it back into the bloodstream.
But if your adrenal glands don't react quickly enough, or are stressed from this scenario playing out day in and day out, your body goes into a state of emergency because it needs glucose FAST.
And you CRAVE carbs as a result! Cookies, chips, chocolate, bread, crackers--whatever you can get your hands on!
But what happens then?
You guessed it--your bloodstream gets flooded with glucose AGAIN.
If your pancreas overreacts again and releases too much insulin, your blood sugar falls through the floor again.
And the cycle repeats itself.
Is hypoglycemia affecting YOU?
If you suspect hypoglycemia may be affecting you, here's a simple quiz to check.
For each question, rate yourself using the following score range based upon how severe each symptom is for you:
0 = Never; none
1 = Mild
2 = Moderate
3 = Severe

Do you have:
1) Intense cravings for sweets?
2) A tired or weak feeling if a meal is skipped?
3) Irritability if a meal is skipped?
4) Dizziness when you stand up quickly or suddenly?
5) Frequent headaches or migraines?
6) Heart palpitations/rapid heartbeat?
7) Depression or mood swings?
8) Anxiety, nervousness or jitteriness?
9) Afternoon fatigue?
10) Excess weight?
11) Occasional blurry vision?

Your score: _______________
Score interpretation:
Less than 5:  Hypoglycemia is probably not an issue for you
Between 6 and 12:  Hypoglycemia may possibly be an issue for you
Over 12:  Hypoglycemia is probably an issue for you
What to do
If you suspect you are suffering the health effects of too many refined carbs, in addition to seeing your doctor if necessary, it's absolutely VITAL to change your diet to include more complex carbs and fewer simple and refined carbs.
And if that sounds about as exciting to you as watching paint dry, I have good news.
The manuals in the Great Taste No Pain eating system will teach you about the health risks of bad carbs, plus give you scrumptious ways to incorporate more good ones into your meals.
Many of the GTNP recipes are made with things like whole grains, legumes, beans and vegetables -- good, healthy sources of complex carbs. And are they ever tasty! You'll be shocked at how delicious eating for great health can be.
Plus, you'll learn about smart combinations of foods, which will help improve digestion and nutrient absorption.
This can make gas, bloating, constipation, acid reflux and excess weight a thing of the past for you for good.

Remember those flora
A longstanding diet of refined and simple carbs can result in harmful bacteria overgrowth in your intestinal tract. Sugar is food for harmful bacteria and they chow down on it with glee, multiply like rabbits and crowd out your beneficial bacteria.
Not having enough friendly bacteria can hamper your digestion and weaken your immune system, making you susceptible to viruses, repeated infections and even diseases like cancer.
But a quality probiotic supplement like Super Shield can help you restore a nice healthy flora balance.
Super Shield's 13 strains of potent, friendly bacteria can help beef up your flora population and bring your balance to a more health-enhancing level, and help you "recover" from a long history of being a "carb-o-holic."
You need them--in the right form
Remember that your body MUST have carbs--without them, you would be permanently horizontal very soon.
What your body does NOT need is too many simple carbs (especially sugar) and any refined carbs.
But what it DOES need is complex carbs--those that come from vegetables and whole grains.
So the next time you hear someone say, "I've cut out all carbs from my diet" that's not really true...and now you know why.
Knowing how the various types of carbs affect your health is crucial to maintaining your blood sugar levels, and keeping type II diabetes, obesity and hyper/hypoglycemia far away from YOU!

The Price of Children - What Are They Worth?

This is just too good not to share

Here is something absolutely positive for a change. I have repeatedly seen the breakdown of the cost of raising a child, but this is the first time I have seen the rewards listed this way. It's nice.

The government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to 18 and came up with $160,140.00 for a middle income family. Talk about price shock! That doesn't even touch college tuition.

But $160,140.00 isn't so bad if you break it down.
...
Read More Link On Right

But $160,140.00 isn't so bad if you break it down. It translates into:

* $8,896.66 a year,

* $741.38 a month,

*$171.08 a week.

* A mere $24.24 a day!

* Just over a dollar an hour.

Still, you might think the best financial advice is; don't have children if you want to be 'rich.' Actually, it is just the opposite.

What do you get for your $160,140.00?

* Naming rights . First, middle, and last!

* Glimpses of God every day.

* Giggles under the covers every night.

* More love than your heart can hold.

* Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs.

* Endless wonder over rocks, ants, clouds, and warm cookies.

* A hand to hold usually covered with jelly or chocolate.

* A partner for blowing bubbles and flying kites.

* Someone to laugh yourself silly with, no matter what the boss said or how your stocks performed that day.

For $160,140.00, you never have to grow up. You get to:

* finger-paint,

* carve pumpkins,

* play hide-and-seek,

* catch lightning bugs,

* never stop believing in Santa Claus.

You have an excuse to:

* keep reading the Adventures of Piglet and Pooh,

* watch Saturday morning cartoons,

* go to Disney movies, and

* wish on stars.

You get to frame rainbows, hearts, and flowers under refrigerator magnets and collect spray painted noodle wreaths for Christmas, hand prints set in clay for Mother's Day, and cards with backward letters for Father's Day.

For a mere $24.24 a day, there is no greater bang for your buck. You get to be a hero just for:

* retrieving a Frisbee off the garage roof,

* taking the training wheels off a bike,

* removing a splinter,

* filling a wading pool,

* coaxing a wad of gum out of bangs, and

* coaching a baseball team that never wins but always gets treated to ice cream regardless.

You get a front row seat in history to witness the:

* First step,

* First word,

* First bra,

* First date,

* First time behind the wheel.

You get to be immortal. You get another branch added to your family tree, and if you're lucky, a long list of limbs in your obituary called grandchildren and great grandchildren. You get an education in psychology, nursing, criminal justice, communications, and human sexuality that no college can match..

In the eyes of a child, you rank right up there under God. You have all the power to heal a boo-boo, scare away the monsters under the bed, patch a broken heart, police a slumber party, ground them forever, and love them without limits, so one day they will, like you, love without counting the cost. That is quite a deal for the price!!!!!!!

Love & enjoy your children & grandchildren & great-grandchildren!!!!!!! It's the best investment you'll ever make

Congressman Asks Big Sis to Explain Huge Ammo Purchases

Congressman Asks Big Sis to Explain Huge Ammo Purchases

“Congress has a responsibility to ask Secretary Napolitano as to exactly why these purchases have occurred”
Paul Joseph Watson
Infowars.com
March 19, 2013
New Jersey Congressman Leonard Lance (R) has demanded an explanation from Secretary Janet Napolitano as to why the Department of Homeland Security is buying huge amounts of bullets.

Asked about the federal agency’s purchase of over 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition over the past year – enough to wage a 20 year plus war – as well as thousands of armored vehicles – Lance called on Congress to get involved.

“I think Congress should ask the Department about both of those issues and I would like a full explanation as to why that has been done and I have every confidence that the oversight committee ….should ask those questions,” said Lance, adding that he shared a belief, “that Congress has a responsibility to ask Secretary Napolitano as to exactly why these purchases have occurred.”

The Congressman said he was “concerned” and that his goal was ensuring Americans “continued to live in a country based on freedom and individual rights,” adding that he hoped Congress could get answers on the reasons behind the huge ammunition purchases by the DHS.

Lance, who is the U.S. Representative for New Jersey’s 7th congressional district, was speaking at a Morristown Tea Party Organization meeting on Friday.

Last week, the Democratic Governors Association (DGA), a lobbying organization which represents governors affiliated with the Democratic Party, started an ad campaign calling on Americans to sign a petition demanding Sarah Palin be denounced for “extremist” rhetoric after the former Governor of Alaska expressed concern about the bullet purchases in a Facebook post.
Earlier this month, Forbes Magazine called for a “national conversation” on the matter despite claims by mainstream media and leftist websites that the issue had been “debunked”. As we documented, the sole source for claiming the story was “debunked” came from a single quote by a DHS official carried in a February 14 Associated Press report.

The AP report regurgitated claims by the federal agency that the bullets were bought in bulk to save money and were for training purposes only.

However, as former Marine Richard Mason told reporters with WHPTV News in Pennsylvania last week, hollow point bullets (which make up the majority of the DHS purchases) are not used for training because they are more expensive than standard firing range rounds.

“We never trained with hollow points, we didn’t even see hollow points my entire four and a half years in the Marine Corps,” Mason said.

It is almost springtime in Texas, and the Texas state flower is the incredibly beautiful
BLUEBONNET!

Here is a touching video by the very talented Robin Binford.
‪You'll be moved if you're a Texan (native, transplant, current resident, or former resident).
If you aren't a Texan, you'll discover the beauty than can best be described as "God's blue carpet".
The bluebonnets are not blooming yet, so the viewing of this video might inspire you to come see them for yourself in the Lone Star State!

The bluebonnet became the state flower only after a small battle.
In a battle of male versus female, male lawmakers favored either the hardy cactus or the cotton boll to represent the state, however, the ladies of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America fought for the bluebonnet, or, as it was called in the late 1800s, buffalo clover.

In the end, the gentlemen gave in to the ladies' desires and the bluebonnet became the state flower in March of 1901.
