NASA Fears Incoming Asteroids. Our Ignorance Imperils Us.

NASA is minimizing their show of fear in this report on their new
space project. Certainly, they want to prevent public panic. However,
those of us whose expression is not politically restrained must work
together to publicize astronomical evidence to convince the people that
they must begin to store food, water, essential oils, germicidal silver,
etc. in the event that meteors or even an asteroid impacts Earth and
billions survive the impact, only to slowly die of hunger, thirst,
  disease, asphyxiation, and inter-human conflict.
NASA will never ever warn people, because their careers are more
important than saving lives. Don't you agree that that is an accurate
appraisal of most professionals' behavior, and not a cruel accusation?
However, we who have been studying the intrusion of comets and
asteroids into our inner Solar System have much established evidence
of this growing and inescapable reality; therefore, it is our responsibility
to humankind to enlighten people as to their need for self defense
preparedness in light of (or in the celestial and political darkness of)
these increasing hordes of comets, asteroids, and meteors.

At Newark Airport, the Lights Are On, and They're Watching You

Visitors to Terminal B at Newark Liberty International Airport <topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/subjects/n/newark_liberty_international_airport_nj/index.html?inline=nyt-org
may notice the bright, clean lighting that now blankets the cavernous interior, courtesy of 171 recently installed LED fixtures. But they probably will not realize that the light fixtures are the backbone of a system that is watching them.

Using an array of sensors and eight video cameras around the terminal, the light fixtures are part of a new wireless network that collects and feeds data into software that can spot long lines, recognize license plates and even identify suspicious activity, sending alerts to the appropriate staff.

The project is still in its early stages, but executives with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey <topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/p/port_authority_of_new_york_and_new_jersey/index.html?inline=nyt-org,
which operates the airport, are already talking about expanding it to other terminals and buildings.

To customers like the Port Authority, the systems hold the promise of better management of security as well as energy, traffic and people. But they also raise the specter of technology racing ahead of the ability to harness it, running risks of invading privacy and mismanaging information, privacy advocates say.

Launch media viewer Hugh Martin, chief executive of Sensity Systems, says "there is a lot of value, I think, if we do it right, to this information." Peter DaSilva for The New York Times

Fred H. Cate, director of the Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research at Indiana University, described the potential for misuse as "terrifying."

His concern derived not from the technology itself but from the process of adopting it, driven by, he said, "that combination of a gee-whiz technology and an event or an opportunity that makes it affordable." As a result, he said, there was often not enough thought given to what data would actually be useful and how to properly manage it.

At Newark Airport, the Port Authority will own and maintain the data it collects. For now, it says, no other agencies have access to it, and a law enforcement agency can obtain it only through a subpoena or written request.

What began as a way to help governments and businesses save energy by automatically turning lights on and off has become an expanding market for lights, sensors and software capable of capturing and analyzing vast amounts of data about the habits of ordinary citizens.

The light fixtures are outfitted with special chips and connect to sensors, cameras and one another over a wireless network. Data that is collected --- say, a particular car pulling up to the terminal --- can then be mined and analyzed for a broad range of applications. Systems like the Port Authority's, developed by a company called Sensity Systems <sensity.com/, could soon be more widely available. Under a recent agreement, Amerlux <amerlux.com/, a leading lighting manufacturer, will start using the technology in its LED fixtures.

"We are opening up an entirely new area in lighting applications and services," said Chuck Campagna, Amerlux's chief executive, "including video-based security and public safety, parking management, predictive maintenance and more."

Other companies, including giants like Cisco Systems and Philips, are racing to grab a share of that market.

Las Vegas is testing a street lighting system that can broadcast sound, and plans to use it mainly to control lighting and play music or to issue security alerts at a pedestrian mall.

Copenhagen is installing 20,000 streetlamps as part of a system that could eventually control traffic, monitor carbon dioxide levels and detect when garbage cans are full. Other government agencies and businesses have begun replacing thousands of lighting fixtures with LEDs, mainly to cut costs.

The trend is expected to accelerate as the fixtures become cheaper and more sophisticated. Navigant Consulting, a firm based in Chicago, has estimated that cities' interest will prompt more than $100 billion in spending on the technology over the next 10 years.

"More and more what we're seeing is decision-makers choosing networked lighting controls not just for the energy benefits but for a whole host of nonenergy benefits," said Jesse Foote, a lighting industry analyst at Navigant.

Sensity's technology, for example, would allow light fixtures and sensors to pinpoint a gunshot, sense an earthquake or dangerous gas, or spot a person stopping at various cars in a parking lot.

Launch media viewer An assembler at Sensity Systems works on one of the company's sensor-equipped, wirelessly networked lighting fixtures. Peter DaSilva for The New York Times

Some cities already have more targeted sensors, like the ShotSpotter gunshot location system in use by more than 70 American cities, including Boston, Milwaukee and San Francisco. But the Sensity network can bring them together through existing light fixtures.

The system could, once software is developed, also make shopping more convenient --- a potential boon for malls losing business to the Internet. Sensing a shopper pulling into a parking lot, the system could send an alert to a smartphone, showing empty spaces, or a coupon.

"We see outdoor lighting as the perfect infrastructure to build a brand new network," said Hugh Martin, Sensity's chief executive. "We felt what you'd want to use this network for is to gather information about people and the planet."

But that is precisely what worries privacy advocates.

"There are some people in the commercial space who say, 'Oh, big data --- well, let's collect everything, keep it around forever, we'll pay for somebody to think about security later,' " said Justin Brookman, who studies consumer privacy at the Center for Democracy and Technology. "The question is whether we want to have some sort of policy framework in place to limit that."

Even those developing the technology acknowledge the concerns.

"I'm not saying that I know the exact balance point, but there is a lot of value, I think, if we do it right, to this information,"
Mr. Martin said, whether that value is heightening security or helping stores compete with Amazon.

His company has a board that includes Heather Zichal, President Obama's former energy and climate change adviser, and former Representative Richard A. Gephardt to help figure out the implications of the technology.

"I just think we need to be very thoughtful about the positives and the negatives," Mr. Martin said. He added that the Sensity network is encrypted and "super secure."

In Las Vegas, officials say they are not interested in using the video and audio surveillance capabilities of the system they are testing, called Intellistreets, and are instead looking at the use of audio broadcasting to enhance ambience and safety in public areas.

In Copenhagen, the emphasis is on efficiency, said Eric Dresselhuys, an executive vice president of Silver Spring Networks, which designed the network to connect that system.

Executives say the potential for the advanced lighting is nearly boundless.

"No one really wanted the smartphone 20 years ago because they didn't know they could have it," said Fred Maxik, founder and chief technology officer of Lighting Science Group, which manufactures LEDs. "And I think the same is true of lighting today: No one knows what lighting is going to be capable of."

Obama Temporarily Steps Down; Will Campaign Full Time

Obama Temporarily Steps Down; Will Campaign Full Time

by Keith Koffler on February 13, 2012
President Obama today announced that he is stepping down as president until after Election Day so he can focus all his time on campaigning.
“Let’s just forget it,” Obama said in an interview with Barbara Walters. “Nobody’s buying this. I’m already mainly campaigning. This just formalizes the arrangement.”
Obama’s decision to temporarily cede the presidency to Vice President Joseph Biden comes amid criticism that the budget he released today does more for Obama’s political prospects than the country’s economic future.
Obama announced the budget at a rally this morning in Annandale Virginia, using much the same language he does on the campaign trail, as Politico noted.
Obama confirmed to Walters that his campaign had in fact written the budget, and that he had sent the entire staff of the White House Office of Management and Budget on maternity leave back in November.
“The new budget I released today was produced at our campaign headquarters in Chicago by David Axelrod,” Obama told Walters. “He’s is a wizard with numbers, though mostly it’s been with polls. This is the first time he’s tried writing a federal budget. I think he did just great.”
Obama admitted, though, that Axelrod had some trouble with addition while composing the budget.
“We kept tellin’ him, ‘Hey Axe, if you spend more than you take in, it’s not going to add up.’ And he was like, ‘Naww, it works baby!’ and I’m like, ‘You, Axe, are a character!’”
The White House budget would spend $3.79 trillion in 2012 while collecting $2.47 trillion, resulting in a deficit of $1.32 trillion, the fourth year in a row the deficit has exceeded $1 trillion. Obama would do almost nothing to rein in entitlements, the chief driver of the deficit, while raising taxes on the rich.
“Soak the rich! Soak the rich!” Obama yelled to a stunned Barbara Walters, who is very rich. “I mean – damn – I mean, everyone has to do their fair share . . . blew it, sorry.”
Meanwhile, the budget has billions in new spending on priorities that will form the centerpiece of Obama’s campaign, like funding for education and renewable energy – not to mention a $476 billion six-year transportation spending initiative.
Obama blamed Republicans for the deficit. “They’re making me do this. They upset me, and when I’m stressed, I spend. I’m working on it.”
Top White House aides fanned out on TV Sunday to defend the president’s proposal.
“Our strategy for combatting the deficit is to keep right on spending,” said White House Chief of Staff and former OMB Director Jack Lew during an appearance Sunday on Meet the Press. Lew, who appeared to have been drugged, continued, “By continuing to spend trillions more than we can afford and hardly touching entitlements, we can solve all our nation’s fiscal problems.”
Lew than added, “Our strategy for combatting the deficit is to keep right on spending. Our strategy for combatting the deficit is to keep right on spending,” before being led out of the studio by White House political adviser David Plouffe.
Reached in the game room at Washington’s Sproul Naval Observatory, where he resides, Biden appeared thunderstruck by the news he would temporarily assume the president’s duties.
“Wow, I don’t even know where I am half the time. Does anyone have a chocolate bar?”
Meanwhile, Chinese President Hu Jintao expressed satisfaction with the new leverage his country would have over the United States as China increases its lending to fund America’s spending.
“Bark like a dog, USA! Speak! Roll over.”

Russian Threat Of War Over Ukraine Stuns Obama Regime
By: Sorcha Faal
A new report by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) relating to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine says that United States President Barack Obama was “stunned” yesterday after President Putin warned him in a telephone dialogue between these two leaders that Russia was prepared to send over 250,000 heavily armed troops into Crimea to protect the sovereignty of its citizens against further US-EU aggression.
Crimea is an autonomous parliamentary republic within Ukraine with a population over 2 million whose ethnic makeup is over 70% Russian and Crimean Tartars as opposed to 24% Ukrainian and is the home base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet located in Sevastopol.
Putin first became involved in this latest Ukraine crisis this week, this report says, after receiving a call from Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych who called for direct intervention by Moscow due to his nation being under “direct attack” from Neo-Nazi and right-wing nationalist mobs supported by the EU and US in conflicts that have left, at least, 67 dead.
Important to note, this report continues, is that the Obama regime has instigated a number of “silent coups” against democratically elected governments it wishes to destabilize, fragment and then reabsorb into its Western alliance.
Unfortunately for the people of Ukraine, this report says, the Obama regime and their EU counterparts have aligned themselves with the much feared Right Sector opposition group that consists mostly of young men with right-wing, ultra right-wing, borderline fascists, and the even more feared far-right nationalist Svoboda Party that has been described as an anti-Semitic and sometimes a Neo-Nazi party by international newspapers organizations that monitor hate speech, Jewish organizations, and political opponents.
The International Business Times (IBC) in warning about the Svoboda Party said it cannot be called a “fringe” party as it currently occupies 36 seats in the 450-member Ukrainian parliament, granting it status as the fourth-largest party in the country.
Further, IBC says, Svoboda is linked to other far-right groups across Europe through its membership in the Alliance of European National Movements, which includes the British National Party (BNP) of the United Kingdom and Jobbik, the neo-fascist, anti-Semitic and anti-Roma party of Hungary.
In heeding Yanukovych’s call for direct intervention against these Western supported fascists, this report says, Putin ordered Human Rights Commissioner Vladimir Lukin to broker an immediate halt to the crisis by warning that Russia “was ready to go to war over Crimea.”
After meeting with Lukin, this report continues, Polish Foreign Minister RadosÅ‚aw Sikorski was taped by ITV News bluntly stating to the fascist Ukrainian opposition leaders, “If you don't support this [deal] you'll have martial law, you'll have the army. You will all be dead.”
Should the most extreme measures be used in this crisis by the Russian military, this report further states, the legal authority to do so rests with the appeal of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea to Yanukovych that was presented by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of Crimea to the President urging him to take extraordinary measures to preserve the constitutional order and unity in Ukraine, and which Putin is bound to support by treaty.
Though an agreement was reached yesterday to end this crisis, this report continues (which Russia refused to sign and Yanukovych stated on Ukrainian television that he would sign not documents with the “bandits” who terrorize the Ukraine) Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov nevertheless expressed his deepest concern to the foreign ministers of Germany, France and Poland about the Ukrainian opposition's inability to negotiate on the agreement.
Even worse, this report continues, the fascist led Ukrainian parliament declared President Yanukovych constitutionally unable to carry out his duties earlier today and set an early election for 25 May, a move Yanukovych refused to recognize by declaring that a coup d'état was underway and that he is not going to resign.
One of the first “unintended blowbacks” for the West following their “silent coup” attempts in Ukraine, this report states, was Iceland’s decision earlier today to cancel their referendum on joining the EU as they are no longer interested in joining this trade bloc, a move made by Ukraine this past November that started this latest crisis in the first place.
With Foreign Minister Lavrov noting Western hypocrisy relating to Ukraine violence by stating, “When something like this happens within a European country, no one questions the need to curb the disorder and violence with firm measures,” this report concludes, it remains up to Obama to heed Putin’s warning to avert an all-out war.

Russian Threat Of War Over Ukraine Stuns Obama Regime
By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Western Subscribers

Exclusive: Joseph Farah is flabbergasted 'state-run media' aren't fuming about new project

Published: 2/21/14

Joseph Farah is founder, editor and CEO of WND and a nationally syndicated columnist with Creators News Service.. He is the author or co-author of 13 books, including his latest, "The Tea Party Manifesto," and his classic, "Taking America Back," now in its third edition and 14th printing. Farah is the former editor of the legendary Sacramento Union and other major-market dailies.
How rotten is the moral soul of journalism in America today?
It is so decayed, putrefied and morbidly disordered that there has been less than a whisper of concern expressed by the entire establishment media over the Orwellian plot by the Federal Communications Commission to place “researchers” in U.S. newsrooms to learn how editorial decisions are made.
No concern.
Not a peep.
Back to reporting on the weather, sports and celebrity news.
Forgive me as a 35-year veteran of American newsrooms if I toss my cookies over this breach of the sanctity of the free press.
The very idea of journalists welcoming government bureaucrats into their newsrooms to spy is so outrageous it leaves me speechless. No so the overwhelming number of reporters, editors, producers and news executives who remain a part of what is rapidly becoming, as Rush Limbaugh caricatures it, “the state-run media.”
In case you missed the development that has me all riled up, it’s just this simple: Ajit Pai, a commissioner with the FCC, wrote in a Wall Street Journal op-ed about the agency’s plan to dispatch researchers into radio, television and even newspaper newsrooms called the “Multi-Market Study of Critical Information Needs.”
Pai warned that under the rationale of increasing minority representation in newsrooms, the FCC, which has the power to issue or not issue broadcasting licenses, would send “researchers” to newsrooms across America to seek their “voluntary” compliance about how news stories are conceived and written. He suggested the newsroom cops might also “wade into office politics” looking for angry reporters whose story ideas were rejected as evidence of a shutout of minority views.
Do you get the picture?
Keep in mind, the FCC has never had any regulatory authority or jurisdiction in print journalism. That newspaper publishers and editors would even consider such a diabolical effort by the state to insinuate itself into First Amendment-protected institutions is astonishing to say the least. It suggests an intellectual and moral failing by news people who have cast away their historic and professional commitment to serving as a watchdog on government and other powerful institutions in favor of subservience to their trusted politicians.
Because I am literally tongue-tied with rage over this plan, I turn it over to my friends at Investors Business Daily for a restrained analysis: “The origin of the idea is a recrudescence of the Fairness Doctrine, inoperative since 1987 or so, to provide equal time to leftist points of view in broadcasting and other media that otherwise wouldn’t have a willing audience in a free market. It’s an idea so fraught with potential for abuse it ought to have news agencies screaming bloody murder. The very idea of Obama hipsters showing up in newsrooms, asking questions and judging if newspapers (over which they have no jurisdiction), radio and TV are sufficiently diverse is nothing short of thought control.”
Like me, the editors at IBD are shocked by the muted reaction of people who will actually be affected by this invasive plan.
“It’s because of this don’t-rock-the-boat attitude that Reporters Without Borders said the U.S. had ‘one of the most significant declines’ in press freedom in the world last year, dropping 13 places to a wretched 46th in its newly released global ranking,” the editorial stated. “If the FCC has its way, it can drop even further.”
America was the birthplace of press freedom – like so many other liberties.
That those earning their livings in the news media are so blasé about this invasion of their sacred turf is much more surprising than the audacity of Barack Obama’s administration to attempt such a crypto-fascist ploy.
But I guess you never suspect the ones you love.
