This dangerous, biotech-industry-friendly GMO labeling legislation is on its way to the Senate, but the fight is far from over. Action Alert!

As we reported last week, Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS) introduced a bill that has been championed by the Monsantos of the world, not to mention the Big Food industry. 

The deceptively titled “Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015” would pre-empt state efforts to pass mandatory GMO labeling laws with a completely voluntary standard. 

It would also block communities and states from banning the cultivation of GMO crops.

A voluntary standard? 

What company that uses GMO ingredients would voluntarily disclose that fact? You may remember the devastating quote from an employee of a Monsanto subsidiary back in ’94: “If you put a label on genetically engineered food, you might as well put a skull and crossbones on it.” 

In other words, if it’s voluntary, consumers will never see a label containing the information they have over whelmingly said they want. 

That’s why pro-labeling advocates have called the bill the “DARK” (“Deny Americans the Right to Know”) Act.

Late last week, by a vote of 275 to 150, the DARK Act passed the House, and is now on it’s way to the Senate. While it still is unclear if the Senate will consider the DARK Act or take up a similar bill that is reportedly being written by Sen. John Hoeven (R-ND), any step forward for this bill is dangerous for the 93% of Americans who want to know what’s in their food. 

We will continue to track the DARK Act through the Senate, but if the bill continues to move, it will likely go to the House floor again. 

We need to dissuade those who supported this measure from doing so again.

‘Do Something Nice for Someone and Tell Them to Pass it On’: Disabled Vietnam Vet Gives His Home to Another Vet

Disabled Vietnam Vet and ex-Special Forces Sergeant Larry Throneburg just finished remodeling his two-bedroom mobile home. Now, he’s going to give it away — to another disabled veteran.

In a few weeks, Throneburg is moving from North Carolina to Florida to be near his family. Instead of selling the home, he’s decided to hand the keys to another disabled vet and the recipient of his generosity is facing some serious challenges.

“He has a lot of problems. He served in the ‘sand pit’, has PTSD, but he is going to be a survivor,” Throneburg told WTVD.

Why is Throneburg doing this? He told a local television reporter, ”That’s what it’s all about: helping people.”

Throneburg’s gift also requires some help from, Military Missions in Action, another group dedicated to assisting troops with disabilities returning from deployments.

Military Missions in Action typically builds modifications to homes of vets needing things like ramps, roll-in showers and widened doorways. In this case, the group will pick up, deliver and set up Throneburg’s remodeled, two-bedroom mobile home to the recipient.

Iran is buckling under the pressure of a massive heatwave passing across the Middle East, with temperatures soaring to nearly 70C.

Scorching heat levels of 50C have already paralysed nearby Iraq, where officials were forced to call a four day public holiday because it was too hot to work.
But the word “hot” has taken on an entirely new meaning in Iran’s city of Bandar Mahshahr, where it was claimed that the city’s heat index, or “feels-like temperature”, was among the highest ever recorded.
The heat index was recorded by a group of astonished weather experts who predict the country could be enduring some of the hottest urban temperatures ever endured by mankind.

David Daleiden, the man behind the undercover Planned Parenthood videos and project lead at the Center for Medical Progress, revealed on CNN Friday morning that an unreleased video has one biotech company “very scared.”

Daleiden said the group met with “top leadership” at StemExpress, a biotech company that supposedly partners with Planned Parenthood on the harvesting of fetal tissue. Further, he claimed the officials made a shocking admission.

“In a meeting with their top leadership, they admitted that they sometimes get fully intact fetuses shipped to their laboratory from the abortion clinics they work with, and that could be prima facie evidence of born alive infants,” Daleiden said. 

“And so that’s why they’re trying to suppress that videotape and they’re very scared of it.”

An email message left by TheBlaze with StemExpress inquiring about the claim was not immediately returned.

Daleiden said there are eight to 10 videos that have yet to be released. 

He also asserted that the Center for Medical Process has followed all applicable laws throughout the course of its investigation and is prepared to fight for its First Amendment rights following an effort to suppress the videos.

The scientists were right — your cell phone can give you cancer.

There have long been whispers of a cancer connection from your cell — and a new study backs up the claims.
"These data are a clear sign of the real risks this kind of radiation poses for human health," study author Igor Yakymenko said.

Yakymenko’s meta-study — basically a study of hundreds of other studies — reveals many findings of previous researchers into how radiofrequency from your phone can damage DNA.  That damage can add up over time and cause a variety of health problems, like cancer, headaches, fatigue and even skin problems.

For example, using your phone for just 20 minutes a day for five years increased the risk of one type of brain tumor threefold, and using the phone an hour a day for four years upped the risk of some tumors three to five times, Yakymenko said. Cell phone-induced health problems could take decades to develop.

But even though the risk of brain and related cancers is low — in 2012, there were 6.4 cases per 100,000 U.S. adults — Yakymenko says we should be on alert because ailments can take up to 30 years to develop.  “(Our) data were obtained on adults who used cell phones mostly up to 10 years as adults,” he said. “The situation can dramatically differ for children who use cells phone in childhood, when their biology much more sensitive to hazardous factors, and will use it over the life.”

To minimize your risk, use your phone less and go hands-free to keep the frequency away from your head, Yakymenko said.

Then without your knowledge, the mortgage company sold your Promissory Note (your credit) to a warehousing institution such as Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. The warehousing institution uses your Promissory Note (your credit) as collateral and generates loans to other people and corporations, with interest. Collateral is essential to a corporation because corporations have no money or credit. They're not real, they're a fiction and require the sweat, the equity, the full faith and credit of living individuals to breathe and sustain the life of the corporation. Corporate Governments operate under the same principle. The warehousing institution makes money off the "Promissory Note" (your credit) and even though the profits made are nothing more than new Negotiable Debt Instruments, those instruments still have buying power in a Negotiable Debt Economy. These debt instruments are only negotiable because of the human ignorance of the American people and the human ignorance of people in other countries of the world, who have all been lied to, told this has value, and the people don't know the difference. Did you ever give your permission to the mortgage company to sell your credit? So where is your cut of the profits? If the mortgage company invested nothing of their own in the purchase of your home, why are you making a monthly mortgage payments to them with interest? And where do they get off foreclosing on or against anyone or threatening to foreclose? They do it by fraud and the Masters and their Agents (the governments, the courts and the banks) all know it! Everything done to us and against us is about sustaining their lives, the lives of the corporate governments they command and to keep "We the People" under their complete control. They accomplish this control by taking away or threatening to take away your comfort and independence. They all use fraudulent means, disguised as law.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Puerto Rico's government said Friday it would not make a $58 million bond payment due on the weekend and warned that the general fund will run out of liquidity by November if no action is taken.

Gubernatorial Chief of Staff Victor Suarez said at a news conference that the island's Public Finance Corporation could not meet the payment due Saturday.

"We don't have the money," he said, adding that the government still hopes to reach an agreement with creditors on renegotiating its debts.

Gov. Alejandro Garcia Padilla warned several weeks ago that the government and state agencies cannot repay the $72 billion in public debt that hangs over the U.S. territory, which is struggling with a nearly decade-long economic slump.

Puerto Rican officials contend that failure to make Saturday's payment will not constitute a default because it involves moral obligation bonds, which means there is no legal requirement to repay them.

But economists reject that argument.

"It is a default no matter how they try to disguise it," said Sergio Marxuach, policy director at the Center for the New Economy, a Puerto Rico-based think tank.

Marxuach and other economists said bondholders could file a lawsuit as soon as next week as a result of the nonpayment, which they said would be the first default in the history of the U.S. territory.

Justice Secretary Cesar Miranda said his department has been preparing for such a scenario. "Obviously we have been anticipating lawsuits," he said.

U.S. open-end bond mutual funds together own more than $11.4 billion of Puerto Rico bonds, or just over 15 percent of its outstanding debt, according to a Morningstar report. Hedge funds hold roughly one-third of Puerto Rico's debt. But experts have said they don't expect Puerto Rico's problems to have a spillover effect on the broader municipal market.

Ben Eiler, a U.S. bond trader who lives in Puerto Rico, owns bonds held by the Public Financing Corporation but said he was not surprised by the government's actions.

"Everyone in the world believes they're going to default," he said in a phone interview. "I anticipated that."

Eiler said he expects the bond's price to rise after a restructuring is worked out.

A group formed by the government to initiate debt renegotiation discussions and submit a five-year fiscal reform plan by Aug. 30 has been meeting regularly, Suarez said. He said that so far, they have studied 59 proposals to boost Puerto Rico's economy, including welfare and labor reforms and public-private partnerships.

Suarez said the group also received information about the general fund's liquidity.

"If we don't take any action, we'll be in the red by November," he said.

Puerto Rico's Government Development Bank, which oversees the island's debt transactions, also is struggling with liquidity. However, bank president Melba Acosta said in a statement that the institution would meet a $169 million bond payment due Friday.

Garcia's administration has pushed for the right for Puerto Rico's public agencies to file for bankruptcy under Chapter 9, but the proposal has not drawn any Republican co-sponsors in the U.S. Congress. The White House has said that no federal bailout is planned.

Some are being affected so adversely that they are choosing to commit suicide rather than suffer to the extent they are being affected.
