US War Veterans Tossing Medals Back at NATO Was Heroic Act

NATO summit leaders should have been forced to watch the moving protest of the former troops chucking their medals away

“No amount of medals, ribbons, or flags can cover the amount of human suffering caused by this war.”
“I have only one word, and it is shame.”
“This is for the people of Iraq and Afghanistan.”
“Mostly, I’m sorry. I’m sorry to all of you. I am sorry…”

In the shadow of the Nato summit, under the watchful eyes of a phalanx of full-black-clad riot police, dozens of former servicemen and women in uniform, veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, threw away their medals, with apologies.

It was one of the most moving experiences many of us had witnessed in our lives. It is hard to describe in words. I couldn’t get the lump out of my throat. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a woman next to me crying. Their words, their voices, crackling under the emotion of their courageous act, breaking under the weight of the pain, the trauma, their anger, sadness, and hope – theirs was a heroic and beautiful act, a moving ceremony. It was a privilege to be there with these women and men who served in our wars.
Operation Iraqi Freedom medal. Tossed. Global War on Terror medal. Thrown. National Defense medal. Pitched. Marine Corps Good Conduct medal. Flung. Navy and Marine Corps medal. Chucked.
Most of the reporting of the demonstrations that met the summit will focus on the minor violence, on the few clashes between protesters and police, on the blood, on everything that happened after the peaceful march was over. In our sad world of spectacle, the pushing and shoving will be all that gets our attention. It is a pity.

Because what was truly remarkable today was the American servicewomen and men tossing their medals back at Nato. In a mixture of sadness, shame, anger, and pride, of trauma, sorrow, and pain, some looking back at their time in Iraq and Afghanistan, some healing from PTSD, others chanting Occupy slogans, these men and women showed a type of courage that the Nato leaders should have been forced to watch. Tragically, our leaders were busy posing for photo ops. They should have been forced to listen to these courageous men and women, to their veterans. It is their loss, ultimately.

Many of these men and women urged us to do something to set straight the havoc that we have wreaked in these various occupations. Some mentioned a memorial for the tens of thousands of civilians killed in Afghanistan or more than 100,000 civilians killed in Iraq. Others offered their apologies. Still others shared their pain, their torments, their nightmares. All of them spoke truth. Perhaps that was their greatest gift of peace.
If only the Nato leaders had listened.
These courageous women and men, these veterans brought to a close a remarkably peaceful anti-Nato march with more than 10,000 protesters – supported by so many more who chanted with them along the route.
“I am returning my medal today because I want to live by my conscience, rather than be a prisoner of it.”
“I apologise to the Iraqi and Afghani people for destroying your countries.”
“I don’t want these anymore.”

Sure. :) I've explained this multiple times already, particularly when someone has written to complain about my posting the dinarguru information - but, one more time: What we're expecting is not simply "revaluation of the Iraqi dinar" but "revaluation of 165 national currencies", any moment now. This appears to be an aspect of what folks have long referred to as the "Global Settlements", a settling of accounts and balancing of the books among the nations. That settling of accounts appears to be part of or prefatory to the introduction of new currencies and a new banking system - that is, the end of the Federal Reserve as we've known it, and the dethroning of the people who have been in control of it. The end of the Federal Reserve further implies the end of the Infernal Revenoo Circus and of Corp. US, and a return to Constitutionality in America with similar changes around the world. Pause and let all that sink in for a moment. :) If we're coming to the end of Corp. US, we may be about to see the "mass arrests" spoken of by Drake and others. With the revaluation of so many currencies all at once, it's impossible to know ahead of time what the on-the-street purchasing power of any of those currencies will be. However, it appears the valuation of the Iraqi dinar was artificially reduced at the time of Bush's invasion - so in that sense it has more room for its valuation to rise, now, than might be expected. The new banking system, not involving fiat money and not debt-based, will need something to be based on - and apparently it's the wealth represented by the "prosperity programs" that will be that basis and that will "prime the pump" for the new banking. Archaeologists Discover Evidence That Bethlehem Existed Centuries Before Jesus

JERUSALEM, May 23 (Reuters) - Israeli archaeologists said on Wednesday they had discovered the first physical evidence supporting Old Testament accounts of Bethlehem's existence centuries before the town became revered as the birthplace of Jesus.

The proof came, they said, in a clay seal unearthed near the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem and imprinted with three lines of ancient Hebrew script that include the word "Bethlehem".

Eli Shukron, who directed the excavation on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority, said the seal apparently had been placed on a tax shipment of silver or agricultural produce sent from Bethlehem to the King of Judah in nearby Jerusalem in the 8th or 7th century BC.

"This is the first time the name Bethlehem appears outside the Bible in an inscription from the First Temple period," Shukron said in a statement, referring to the years 1006 BC to 586 BC.

The coin-sized remnant of the seal proves that Bethlehem - first mentioned in the Book of Genesis - "was indeed a city in the Kingdom of Judah, and possibly also in earlier periods", he said.

He named them for the voyage co-sponsor, New York City newspaper publisher James Gordon Bennett. The ship's crew received a hero's welcome back in Washington, and Congress awarded them gold medals.
In the Bering Sea at the far west end of the Aleutian chain are Copper Island, Sea Lion Rock and Sea Otter Rock. They were ceded to the U.S .inSeward's 1867 treaty withRussia.

Now is the time for the Obama administration to stand up forU.S.and Alaskan rights and invaluable resources. It has gently been increased, and now you are recognizing the difference it is making to you. It is in many ways a delicate process of raising your vibrations, so that you can gradually absorb more, and more. Too much energy too soon could have been detrimental to your progress, upsetting those who are slow to respond. It affects all souls in one way or another, which is why some get symptoms that might otherwise be attributed to malfunctioning bodily systems. Now perhaps you can understand why at the time of the 21st. December 2012, the high energy influx due to the alignment of your Sun and the Great Central Sun, is going to "separate" those who are ready to ascend, and those who are not. The choice is as ever yours, but do not be concerned if you are one desiring to remain in your present dimension. It will make no difference to your evolution in the long run, as opportunities to ascend will still come periodically. We would say, savor the wonderful experiences that you have had on Earth, as you may never quite get the same again. It is sometimes going from one extreme to another that heightens the depth of your experiences. In the future your lives will be more steady and on an even keel, and there will hardly be any extremes unless you choose it to be so. Adventures will be your way of life, and give you great fulfillment. Yet, no matter how far you travel, your loved ones will be but a thought away, and with instantaneous travel friends are easily reached. Arpaio set to crack 'birther' coconut

"Birthers" rejoice!

For years, you have wandered in the wilderness, searching in vain for that ever-elusive evidence and the credibility that comes with actual elected officials willing to take up your quest for "truth."

Finally you have reached the promised land: Arizona, where these days lunacy is law.

Oh, who am I kidding? We've long been the land of crackpottery and conspiracy.

Remember Gov. Evan Mecham and his efforts to ward off laser beams from the eavesdropping attorney general and the newspaper? Remember the alien flyby exposed by the Phoenix Lights?

Remember when the TV weather guys went all Middle Eastern on us and started using the word "haboob"?

We in Arizona are nothing if not one giant teeming conspiracy theory.

So it seems only natural that we would take up this noble cause. We may not be the birthplace of the birther movement but where better than Arizona to take one final stand -- or leap, if you will, right over the edge?

And so our intrepid sheriff, Joe Arpaio -- not content with Secretary of State Ken Bennett's electoral probe -- has dispatched a deputy and his posse to Hawaii as part of his criminal investigation into the curious matter of Barack Obama's birth certificate.

Arpaio says his investigators showed up on Monday at the Hawaii Department of Health but couldn't get past the lobby.

Hawaii tells it a little differently.

"The two gentlemen who showed up at the State Department of Health yesterday and represented themselves as being from Maricopa County Sheriff's Office were not turned away," Joshua Wisch, special assistant to the Hawaii attorney general, wrote in an e-mail. "They met in a conference room with the deputy director of health and a deputy attorney general. ... The registrar was not available at the time, so his supervisor, the deputy director, took the time to meet with the gentlemen. The statutory process was explained at the meeting, and all publicly available documentation was provided."

Or as Arpaio puts it: "We were stonewalled."

Of course, Hawaii officials aren't going to just hand over the goods to America's self-styled toughest sheriff. Especially if they're in on the cover-up, as Arpaio clearly suspects.

"We feel that that document is a forgery," he said. "We're trying to figure out who did it. That's good police work."

In addition to storming the lobby, Arpaio says his island forces are developing "numerous investigative leads."

I don't imagine that it's an easy assignment. This is a complicated case that calls for sophisticated law-enforcement techniques, given those tricky Hawaiians with their website (hawaii.gov/health/vital-records/ obama.html) offering all publicly available documents.

"These include, among other things, press releases from both the past and present state directors of health verifying that they have personally seen and verified the president's birth records, as well as a link to the White House website where a copy of the certification of live birth is posted," Wisch wrote.

I'm certain Arpaio is not dropping it even after Hawaii provided verification of Obama's birth Tuesday night. Which is why I feel it incumbent upon all of us, as Arizonans, to assist in his efforts to wring out the truth now that we have boots on the ground -- or possibly flip-flops in the sand.

It's time, once and for all, to crack open this coconut and if these hardened Hawaiian criminals won't confess, then I offer up these suggestions:

1. Make them eat poi until they agree to talk, or at least let you out of the lobby.

2. Use our senior status as the 48th state and mount a campaign to dump their No. 50 butts out of the union.

3. Seize our signature memorial -- the USS Arizona -- and threaten to float it to San Diego. Assuming, that is, that Hawaii doesn't decide to cut it loose first.

4. Three words: Occupy King Kamehameha.

5. If else fails, call in the big gun. Enlist Arizona's governor to fire up The Finger and if a good wag doesn't do the job, simply deputize her and issue the order:

As the recent emergence of US plans for indoctrination in reeducation camps reveals, Western governments’ actual enemy is the capacity for a people to exercise critical thought en route to intervening in and altering political-economic processes. Public opinion—defined by 19th century English political thinker William MacKinnon as “that sentiment on any given subject which is entertained by the best informed, most intelligent, and most moral persons in the community”—is fundamentally at odds with police state prerogatives also exemplified in recent US Department of Homeland Security documents. The technocratic mindset of agencies such as the DHS and Federal Bureau of Investigation that oversee federal, state, and local policing procedures seeks to short-circuit and quell dissent by identifying transgressive thought that deviates from an assumed normalcy, then interlinking it with perceived threats or violent actions against the state. In a grand governmental exercise of Freudian-style projection, the DHS’s usage of inflammatory terms such as “terrorist” and “extremist” are routinely utilized to emphasize the nature and degree of various activist groups’ alleged deviant ideologies. This practice proceeds in light of the fact that most every “terrorist” act within the US since 9/11 has been carefully guided by the FBI or, as was the case with the initial “underwear bomber, Western intelligence agencies likely working in concert. A November 2011 DHS document, “Domestic Terrorism and Homegrown Violent Extremism Lexicon”, is the agency’s recent codification of terms intended to instruct and aid government officials in recognizing “threats of terrorism against the United States by facilitating a common understanding of the terms and conditions that describe terrorist threats to the United States [sic].” Then, in a fashion that will be familiar to those who understand the tactics of groups such as the Southern Poverty Law Center, an untenable array of activist pursuits spanning the political spectrum—“Anarchist Extremists”, “Animal Rights Extremists”, “Anti-Abortion Extremists”, “Environmental Rights Extremists”—are libelously lobbed together and defined alongside designations including “Racist Skinhead Extremists”, “Homegrown Violent Extremist”, “Radicalization”, and “Terrorism”. As with the phalanx of totalitarian-like legislation such as the PATRIOT Acts that potentially pit the militarized security state against the US population, through intentional ambiguity Homeland Security’s definitions of “terrorism” and “radicalization” come perilously close to classifying critical thought and expression of almost any sort as terrorism. “Terrorism” is defined as “any act that is dangerous to human life, critical infrastructure, or key resources ... and appears to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion [sic]” (author’s emphasis). Under such a definition social protest—speech protected under the First Amendment—is impermissible. After all, any effective protest seeks through various ways to effectively petition authorities for a redress of grievances. The curious term “radicalization” will be of special interest to academics and journalists capable of engaging with and examining controversial issues and concerns that their students or readers may become passionate enough to weigh in on in some consequential way. According to DHS, a person is “radicalized” through indoctrination “from a non-violent belief system to a belief system that includes the willingness to actively advocate, facilitate, or use violence as a method to effect societal or political change.” Alongside DHS’s vague definition of terrorism and the broader prerogatives of police state ideology and practice, “violence” may be conceived in a number of ways, such as a person with of a certain racial demarcation peacefully sitting in the front of a segregated bus, or a concerned citizen occupying the lobby of a zombie bank. In reality the actual target of such policing metrics is the small percentage of the population that have somehow escaped the enforced process of “de-radicalization”—those who, in other words, still possess the capacity to think and act critically on meaningful political matters. Indeed, it is not beyond reason to point out that America is one serious terrorist attack or mass civil disturbance away from the implementation of policies to seriously limit or curtail the traffic of ideas, made all the more easy for authorities through the internet’s centralized configuration. Society will then be left with the corporate media and their custom inability (or refusal) to honestly examine and publicize the corrupt nature and practices of the national security state. With alternative media outlets providing a broad spectrum of analyses and perspectives the tiny demarcation between critical thinking and terrorism outlined in the government’s missives is understandable. Minds not fully regulated and that risk awakening (radicalization) through an intellectual epiphany triggered by a professor, journalist, or author prone to encouraging thought crimes may become "radicalized" and carry out “terrorist” activities. They may, for example, recognize and critique the “war on terror” as an extravagant and monstrous deception. Moreover, individuals capable of possessing, articulating, and acting upon meaningful ideas and information—of exercising an informed and self-determined opinion in furtherance of their shared security and welfare—have no need for a police state to "protect" them, which in all likelihood is why critical thought and public opinion are the New World Order’s greatest enemies. Notice the cars and jeeps, youth. The guys in khaki or gray shirts and black ties are Navy officers or chiefs. The rest are Army or Marine. How young they all were to do what they did. This guy really captured a moment in history!
