The leader of the U.S. Special Operations Command and architect of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden is seriously unhappy about a forthcoming book by a member of the SEAL raiding team. And he wants other elite U.S. commandos to know they could be in for a world of legal trouble if they write their own tell-alls.

No Easy Day is the first first-person description of the Osama bin Laden raid, penned by a former SEAL Team Six member named Matt Bissonnette. It’s set for publication, naturally, on Sept. 11. And it took the Pentagon and the White House by surprise. Admiral William McRaven, the leader of the U.S. Special Operations Command, wants to make sure it doesn’t lead to a pattern of similar memoirs.

McRaven, the former commander of the Joint Special Operations Command, reminded fellow members of the special-operations community reminding them that they signed binding documents designed to keep them from discussing their highly secretive work.

There are American traditions.  When combat vets talk about experience, they don’t brag or ask for special treatment.  Why do SEALS think they are better than Marines or Army or anyone else?  I believe 5 SEALS died at Abbotabad on a dead-end mission looking for nobody at all.  Their families have my condolences for sure and the hard questions of why people would go on a mission looking for someone they knew was dead? Abbotabad?  What we do know is that who was there lied about a 45 minute firefight, lied about bin Laden hiding behind his wife while carrying an AK-47, lied about bin Laden being there at all, lie after lie after lie and now we are supposed to believe more lies?   The last lie?  No firefight, I can believe that and shooting an unarmed old man.  This is the claim, I didn’t say it, they did.   Rules of engagement makes that murder and there isn’t an iota of proof behind any of it.  There were NO cameras, no photos.  With bin Laden announced dead in 2001, and, I can also assure the US and Pakistani governments and military knew of his death as did the CIA, why do I have to listen to whining based on a pack of total lies.   It isn’t the dead who are whining, it is the living.  It is cheap, disrespectful and childish. <SNIP> As no SEALS have spoken up like men, I will wait.  The mouthy profiteers from cheap gangster politics are now the spokesmen for an organization so many have been proud of for so long. SEALs have a great skill set, swim better than the rest of us, are highly organized, not as smart as Special Forces guys....but don’t seem to really understand the law, the constitution or have real respect for American values. If you are in the military, you don’t write books lying about your exploits.  No SEAL killed Osama bin Laden, end of story. Actually, real special ops people called him “Elvis bin Laden” because anyone “for real” knew about his death [in 2001], knew he was always CIA and knew he was “one of us” up to his death. A Kaduna socialite, Hajiya Fati Mazangari, who parades herself as an oil and gas magnate, was recently arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as part of ongoing investigations into the billion-naira pension scam in the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.

She was however released on bail after interrogation. LEADERSHIP gathered from competent sources that the agency is holding on to her passport to prevent her from fleeing the country.

Former Reporter Amber Lyon Exposes Massive Censorship at CNN

The Amber Lyon story is just the latest in a series of articles that expose the total Joseph Goebbels like censorship rampant in mainstream media today.  The first one I posted several weeks ago exposed how the NY Times basically just regurgitates whatever government officials tell them, while the other showcased how an NPR reporter covering D.C. had to leave and do her own thing out of frustration.  This is precisely why alternative media sites are taking off.  They provide the only outlets left for genuine journalism.
So back to Amber.  Back in March 2011, CNN sent a four person team to Bahrain to cover the Arab Spring.  Once there, the crew was the subject of extreme intimidation amongst other things, but they were able to record some fantastic footage.  As Glenn Greenwald of the UK’s Guardian writes in his blockbuster article from today:
In the segment, Lyon interviewed activists as they explicitly described their torture at the hands of government forces, while family members recounted their relatives’ abrupt disappearances. She spoke with government officials justifying the imprisonment of activists. And the segment featured harrowing video footage of regime forces shooting unarmed demonstrators, along with the mass arrests of peaceful protesters. In sum, the early 2011 CNN segment on Bahrain presented one of the starkest reports to date of the brutal repression embraced by the US-backed regime.
Despite these accolades, and despite the dangers their own journalists and their sources endured to produce it, CNN International (CNNi) never broadcast the documentary. Even in the face of numerous inquiries and complaints from their own employees inside CNN, it continued to refuse to broadcast the program or even provide any explanation for the decision. To date, this documentary has never aired on CNNi.
Having just returned from Bahrain, Lyon says she “saw first-hand that these regime claims were lies, and I couldn’t believe CNN was making me put what I knew to be government lies into my reporting.”
After Lyon’s crew returned from Bahrain, CNN had no correspondents regularly reporting on the escalating violence. In emails to her producers and executives, Lyon repeatedly asked to return to Bahrain. Her requests were denied, and she was never sent back. She thus resorted to improvising coverage by interviewing activists via Skype in an attempt, she said, “to keep Bahrain in the news”.
In March 2012, Lyon was laid off from CNN as part of an unrelated move by the network to outsource its investigative documentaries.
“At this point,” Lyon said, “I look at those payments as dirty money to stay silent. I got into journalism to expose, not help conceal, wrongdoing, and I’m not willing to keep quiet about this any longer, even if it means I’ll lose those payments.”
Amber Lyon, I salute you.
