An ex-Goldman Sachs hotshot trader is suing the investment bank after his 2010 bonus was almost $5 million less than he had told his mom he was going to get, it was revealed today.

Deeb Amin Salem, 35, was less than impressed when he received an annual bonus of ‘just’ $8.25m instead of the $13m he had been bragging about.

Salem ran a massively successful mortgage-trading desk at Goldman and claims he helped the bank earn more than $7 billion, according to Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) arbitration documents.

In 2009, the cocksure trader had received a $15 million bonus – out-earning even Goldman CEO Lloyd Blankfein.

When 2010 proved another bumper earner for Salem’s desk, he was confident his bonus would reflect the success and he was shocked when it didn’t.

The trader gained some notoriety after the financial crisis because a U.S. Senate panel made the performance review public in 2011. 

In the review, Salem detailed what he described as Goldman’s plan to put a 'short squeeze' on the mortgage market. He also described himself as an expert trader and said he deserved to be promoted to managing director.

'I am as competitive as Michael Jordan,' Salem wrote. 'I don’t just want to win – I want to win every time and I want to steamroll the opposition.'

An his FINRA hearing earlier this year, Salem said the $8.25 million bonus didn’t reflect his contributions.

Goldman Sachs argued he was aware that the firm could pay him whatever it wished as bonuses are discretionary and that the company considered his conduct in determining compensation. 

A spokesperson for Goldman told Bloomberg that Salem's claims are 'utterly ridiculous.'

He left the bank in 2012 after his next bonus was 'just' $3 million and he currently works as a portfolio manager for a hedge fund. 

Salem's claims were recently rejected by a FINRA panel. His attorney has just filed a petition in New York State Supreme Court.

Salem is seeking $16.5 million from the bank ($9.5 million and about 41,000 shares in deferred compensation), the report said.

U.S. signals Iraq’s prime minister should go

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is signaling that it wants a new government in Iraq without Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, convinced the Shiite leader is unable to reconcile with the nation’s Sunni minority and stabilize a volatile political landscape.

The U.S. administration is indicating it wants Iraq’s political parties to form a new government without Mr. Maliki as he tries to assemble a ruling coalition following elections this past April, U.S. officials say.

Such a new government, U.S., officials say, would include the country’s Sunni and Kurdish communities and could help to stem Sunni support for the al Qaeda offshoot, the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, or ISIS, that has seized control of Iraqi cities over the past two weeks. That, the officials argue, would help to unify the country and reverse its slide into sectarian division.

On Wednesday, Iraq stepped up efforts on several fronts to blunt the insurgency’s progress, deploying counterterrorism units and helicopter gunships to battle them for control of the country’s main oil refinery, in Beiji.

A growing number of U.S. lawmakers and Arab allies, particularly Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, are pressing the White House to pull its support for Mr. Maliki. Some of them are pushing for change in exchange for providing their help in stabilizing Iraq, say U.S. and Arab diplomats.

The chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) told a congressional hearing Wednesday: “The Maliki government, candidly, has got to go if you want any reconciliation.”

Senior administration officials have become increasingly critical of Mr. Maliki in their public statements and question whether he is committed to mending ties with Sunnis.

“There’s no question that not enough has been done by the government, including the prime minister, to govern inclusively, and that that has contributed to the situation and the crisis that we have today in Iraq,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said Wednesday.

“The Iraqi people will have to decide the makeup of the next coalition government and who is the prime minister,” he added. “Whether it’s the current prime minister or another leader, we will aggressively attempt to impress upon that leader the absolute necessity of rejecting sectarian governance.”

The Obama administration has for years warned Mr. Maliki’s Shiite-dominant government to be more inclusive and less punitive against the minority Sunnis at the risk of further alienating them.

Mr. Maliki has largely ignored that advice over the past five years, U.S. and Arab officials say, jailing popular Sunni protest leaders, blocking even other Shiite blocs from sharing power and taking most key cabinet positions in government for himself.

So then one guy talked to another and someone sent a smoke signal, because the NSA don't know real technologie unless they are spying on someone so the plane pulled out without a flight plan and that guy that knows so much parachuted to a little island off the coast of dragon land where a military transport picked him up the hard way made it look like a search and rescue.

Will Mainstream TV Report on the Media’s Elite Secret Meeting in July?

Here’s an interesting article. A reader shared this, and I’m so far behind now I can’t recall who, but I appreciate you providing a link for this heads up.
The question is… are they meeting to plan FOR us, or AGAINST us? They make it sound like it’s the Bilderbergers of media.
 There’s a possibility they could be meeting to discuss positive changes to accommodate the anticipated relinquishment of the government’s control. At least, that’s what I prefer to imagine the purpose of this meeting will be.  ~ BP

Designer Arturo Vittori says his invention can provide remote villages with more than 25 gallons of clean drinking water per day

In some parts of Ethiopia, finding potable water is a six-hour journey.

People in the region spend 40 billion hours a year trying to find and collect water, says a group called the Water Project. And even when they find it, the water is often not safe, collected from ponds or lakes teeming with infectious bacteria, contaminated with animal waste or other harmful substances.

The water scarcity issue—which affects nearly 1 billion people in Africa alone—has drawn the attention of big-name philanthropists like actor and Water.org co-founder Matt Damon and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who, through their respective nonprofits, have poured millions of dollars into research and solutions, coming up with things like a system that converts toilet water to drinking water and a “Re-invent the Toilet Challenge,” among others.

Critics, however, have their doubts about integrating such complex technologies in remote villages that don’t even have access to a local repairman. Costs and maintenance could render many of these ideas impractical.

“If the many failed development projects of the past 60 years have taught us anything,” wrote one critic, Toilets for People founder Jason Kasshe, in a New York Times editorial, “it’s that complicated, imported solutions do not work.”

Other low-tech inventions, like this life straw, aren’t as complicated, but still rely on users to find a water source.

It was this dilemma—supplying drinking water in a way that’s both practical and convenient—that served as the impetus for a new product called Warka Water, an inexpensive, easily-assembled structure that extracts gallons of fresh water from the air.

The invention from Arturo Vittori, an industrial designer, and his colleague Andreas Vogler doesn’t involve complicated gadgetry or feats of engineering, but instead relies on basic elements like shape and material and the ways in which they work together.

At first glance, the 30-foot-tall, vase-shaped towers, named after a fig tree native to Ethiopia, have the look and feel of a showy art installation. But every detail, from carefully-placed curves to unique materials, has a functional purpose.

The rigid outer housing of each tower is comprised of lightweight and elastic juncus stalks, woven in a pattern that offers stability in the face of strong wind gusts while still allowing air to flow through. A mesh net made of nylon or  polypropylene, which calls to mind a large Chinese lantern, hangs inside, collecting droplets of dew that form along the surface. As cold air condenses, the droplets roll down into a container at the bottom of the tower. The water in the container then passes through a tube that functions as a faucet, carrying the water to those waiting on the ground.

Using mesh to facilitate clean drinking water isn’t an entirely new concept. A few years back, an MIT student designed a fog-harvesting device with the material. But Vittori’s invention yields more water, at a lower cost, than some other concepts that came before it.

“[In Ethiopia], public infrastructures do not exist and building [something like] a well is not easy,” Vittori says of the country. “To find water, you need to drill in the ground very deep, often as much as 1,600 feet.  So it’s technically difficult and expensive. Moreover, pumps need electricity to run as well as access to spare parts in case the pump breaks down.”

So how would Warka Water’s low-tech design hold up in remote sub-Saharan villages? Internal field tests have shown that one Warka Water tower can supply more than 25 gallons of water throughout the course of a day, Vittori claims. He says because the most important factor in collecting condensation is the difference in temperature between nightfall and daybreak, the towers are proving successful even in the desert, where temperatures, in that time, can differ as much as 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

The structures, made from biodegradable materials, are easy to clean and can be erected without mechanical tools in less than a week. Plus, he says, “once locals have the necessary know-how, they will be able to teach other villages and communities to build the Warka.”

In all, it costs about $500 to set up a tower—less than a quarter of the cost of something like the Gates toilet, which costs about $2,200 to install and more to maintain. If the tower is mass produced, the price would be even lower, Vittori says. His team hopes to install two Warka Towers in Ethiopia by next year and is currently searching for investors who may be interested in scaling the water harvesting technology across the region.

“It’s not just illnesses that we’re trying to address. Many Ethiopian children from rural villages spend several hours every day to fetch water, time they could invest for more productive activities and education,” he says. “If we can give people something that lets them be more independent, they can free themselves from this cycle.“

In recent months it seems that the prerequisites for the revaluation of the Iraqi Dinar and other currencies may have finally been accomplished.  At this point we need to review the protocol for the exchange of these currencies, whether in hand, on Reserve or on Layaway.  While Trusts Unlimited has offered some basic suggestions regarding the exchange of currencies in Domestic Banks, we have made it clear that such information is only preliminary, and is based on routine currency exchanges, which may or may not apply in this instance.  It is our view, that we must look to the model established with the revaluation of the Kuwaiti Dinar in the early 1990's.  The Kuwaiti Dinar dropped against the dollar, from $3.65 to $ .05 during the Iraqi occupation.  With the expulsion of Iraq, the Kuwaiti Dinar quickly revalued to its pre-invasion rate.  But the exchange of the Kuwaiti Dinar was complicated. In order to exchange the Kuwaiti Dinar, individuals that had purchased it during the short Iraqi occupation, had to travel to Kuwait in order to exchange their currency.  And further, that there was only a short period of time in order to conclude your exchange transaction. It's entirely possible, for a variety of reasons, that those holding Iraqi Dinar and other currencies may need to travel to each respective nation, in order exchange their currencies.  And at the very least, we may have to exchange our currencies outside of the United States. Our Offshore Partners created a Consortium, which traveled to Kuwait, in order to exchange the Kuwaiti Dinar.  And Trusts Unlimited is again going to establish a similar Currency Exchange Consortium, in order to facilitate the global exchange currencies if that becomes necessary.
