Carter F. Ham (born February 16, 1952) is a former United States Army general, who served as the second Commander, U.S. Africa Command. In that position, he was in command of the initial 2011 military intervention in Libya.
Ham previously served as the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army from August 28, 2008 to March 8, 2011. Prior to that, he served as Director for Operations (J-3) at the Joint Staff from August 2007 to August 2008 and the Commanding General, U.S. 1st Infantry Division from August 2006 to August 2007, and during the Balkan crisis in the mid 1990s was the commander of "Operation Able Sentry" in Macedonia.

Early life and education[edit]

Ham was born on February 16, 1952 in Portland, Oregon, and attended Charles F. Brush High School. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from the John Carroll University, as well as an M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He received the rank of Eagle Scout as a youth in 1965 and was bestowed the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award in 2012 from the Boy Scouts of America.

Career[edit]

Ham in 2006.

Ham being sworn in as the commander of USAREUR byMichael Mullen in August 2008.
Ham enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1974 and served two years as an infantryman in the 82nd Airborne Division before being accepted in the Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (Army ROTC) while attending John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. He was commissioned, as an infantry officer, as a Distinguished Military Graduate in 1976. He later received his master's degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College inNewportRhode Island as well as graduating from several military schools including the Infantry Officer Basic Course, the Armor Officer Advanced Course, the College of Naval Command and Staff of the U.S. Naval War College and the U.S. Air Force Air War College. He is a member of the John Carroll University ROTC Hall of Fame. He and his wife, Christi, are both John Carroll University graduates.
Ham's early assignments included service at Fort Knox, Kentucky and tours of duty in Italy and Germany. After graduating from the Armor Officers Advanced Course, he was a Recruiting Area Commander in Lima, Ohio. In 1984, he served with a joint service unit in support of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
From 1984 until 1989, Ham served as Assistant Inspector General, then as Battalion S-3 and Executive Officer with the Opposing Force at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California. He attended the College of Naval Command and Staff, graduating with distinction in 1990, and was then assigned to the U.S. Army Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia.
He served a tour as an advisor with a Saudi Arabian National Guard Brigade in Riyadh as part of OPM-SANG then returned to Fort Benning, where he was the executive officer for the Infantry School. Ham commanded the 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry in Vilseck, Germany including a six-month tour with the United Nations Protection Forces in the Republic of Macedonia. Following battalion command, he was the Senior Observer/Controller of the Timberwolf Team at the Combat Maneuver Training Center, Hohenfels, Germany.
He graduated from the Air War College in 1997 then returned to Germany where he served as G-3, then Chief of Staff, 1st Infantry Division. From 1999 to 2001 he commanded the 29th Infantry Regiment at Fort Benning, then served as Deputy Director, J-8, United States Central Command in Tampa, Florida and Qatar. Ham was assigned as the Deputy Commanding General for Training and Readiness, I Corps at Fort Lewis, Wash. in August 2003. In January 2004, he assumed command of Multinational Brigade (Task Force Olympia) – North in Mosul, Iraq serving there until February 2005. During his time in Iraq, Ham suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, which was caused by his attending the aftermath of a deadly suicide bombing at a mess hall. He later sought treatment for his condition and publicly encouraged other soldiers to do the same.[2]
Returning from Iraq, Ham served as the Deputy Director for Regional Operations, J-3, on The Joint Staff. Ham assumed command of the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas in August 2006 and served as the Commanding General until July 2007, returning to The Joint Staff as Director for Operations, J-3. On August 28, 2008, Ham became the 34th Commander of the United States Army Europe headquartered at Campbell Barracks,Heidelberg, Germany. In 2010, General Ham served as co-chair for the comprehensive review of issues associated with the repeal of the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy.[3]
The U.S. Senate, in November 2010, confirmed Ham's nomination to become the next Commander of U.S. Africa Command, headquartered at Kelley Barracks, Stuttgart, Germany.[4] He assumed the post on March 8, 2011.
Ham was in command of U.S. forces enforcing the Libyan no-fly zone, along with Admiral Samuel J. Locklear.[citation needed] Described as "in charge of the coalition effort", Ham on March 21, 2011 "said there would be coalition airstrikes on Colonel Qaddafi’s mobile air defenses and that some 80 sorties – only half of them by the United States – had been flown on Monday."[5] Admiral Locklear, aboard the flagship Mount Whitney, has tactical command of theOperation Odyssey Dawn joint taskforce.[6] "General Ham also said he had “full authority” to attack the regime’s forces if they refused to comply withPresident Obama’s demands that they pull back from AjdabiyaMisrata and Zawiya," according to one report. Earlier, he said that the United States was not working with the Libyan rebels. “Our mission is not to support any opposition forces,” Ham said by video feed to the Pentagon from his headquarters in Stuttgart.[5]
After a normal 24-month tour of duty[7] as Commander, U.S. Africa Command, General Ham was succeeded by General David M. Rodriguez.[8] General Ham retired in June 2013.[3]

Views[edit]

Ham was quoted in an online Washington Post article by Greg Miller and Craig Whitlock, posted on October 1, 2012, that, as saying, that, as a result of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb's overtaking and capturing more territory in Mali in Africa, and possessing arms from Libya after the Libyan Civil War which overthrew Muammar Gaddafi, there is the possibility of the U.S. assisting, but not leading, counterterrorism operations done by other countries. A more radical step would be the use of drones.[9]
While speaking about the Chinese presence that was "everywhere" in Africa, Ham expressed an appreciation for the economic competition between China and the U.S. in Africa, observing that China was "very good at infrastructure development -- roads, bridges, airports, government buildings and the like -- constructed by the Chinese in -- which greatly benefits the African people."[10]

Fukushima radiation identified off northern California

Fukushima radiation identified off northern California

Satellite measurements of ocean temperature from July 28th to August 4th and the direction of currents help show where radionuclides from Fukushima are transported.

Low-level radiation from Japan's Fukushima nuclear accident has been detected in multiple samples of ocean water off the Pacific Coast of the U.S. and Canada, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is reporting.
The sample nearest to shore was taken about 100 miles off the coast of Eureka, in Northern California.
The levels are far below those that might pose a risk to human health or marine life, said Ken Buesseler, a WHOI marine chemist who is leading the monitoring effort.
"The levels are only detectable by sophisticated equipment able to discern minute quantities of radioactivity," Buesseler said.
And so far, no samples taken from beaches have tested positive for Fukushima radiation.
Massive amounts of contaminated water were released from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant following a March 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Radioactive water has continued to leak and be released from the complex.
The radioactive plume has traveled across the Pacific, propelled largely by ocean currents and being diluted along the way.
No state or federal agency is testing Pacific waters for radiation from the crippled plant, so earlier this year Buesseler launched a crowd-funded, citizen-science effort to collect surf samples to be tested at his lab in Massachusetts.
Buesseler is looking for cesium-134, the so-called "fingerprint" of Fukushima. Cesium-134 does not occur naturally in the environment and has a short two-year half-life, so any in the Pacific today had to come from Fukushima.
He's also looking for higher-than-background levels of cesium-137, another Fukushima isotope that already is present in the world's oceans from nuclear testing in the 1950s and 1960s.
Processing has been completed on about 50 of the surf samples, taken from the Bering Strait to San Diego. None have been positive for Fukushima radiation.
But this summer Buesseler partnered with a group of volunteers on the research vessel 'Point Sur' to take a series of about 50 samples offshore, from Dutch Harbor, Alaska to Eureka.
So far, about 20 of those samples have been analyzed, and 10 have been positive for cesium-134, the Fukushima fingerprint. All were relatively close to the surface.
The amount of cesium-134 in each sample was less than 2 becquerels per cubic meter (Bq/m3). That's about 1,000 times lower than the acceptable limit in drinking water set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
"I don't want to be dismissive of concerns," Buesseler said. "But there's a big difference between ten million becquerels – and it was that high off Japan in 2011 – and a few of these becquerels like we're seeing off Eureka."
"It's not zero," he said. "But it's not some large, dangerous amount of cesium that might reach our shorelines."
It's hard to predict when the Fukushima isotopes will reach beaches, Buesseler said.
"The models predict cesium levels to increase over the next two to three years, but do a poor job describing how much more dilution will take place and where those waters will reach the shoreline first," he said.
Buesseler is presenting his findings Thursday at the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry's annual meeting in Vancouver, BC.

Why Nobody Should Trust the Mainstream News

Why Nobody Should Trust the Mainstream News

For over one hundred years millions of people have trusted the established news media. However, millions of people are now abandoning the mainstream news in favor of online alternate media, since these online news sources are typically more concerned about objective reporting than profit margins. The Bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil (1 Tim. 6:10), so the less money is an issue in reporting, the better. But there's more than truth and money at stake. Few people realize that the US media has been controlled by a small but super wealthy group of men. To them, money is just a means to obtain more power and control over the masses, so the corporate media is a tool they use for propaganda and mind control.

Presstitutes

Just as prostitutes make money from illicit services rendered with their bodies, so presstitutes make money from illicit services rendered with their words. Dr. Paul Craig Roberts wrote, "The US print and TV media (and NPR) whore for Washington and the corporations. Reporting the real news is their last concern. The presstitutes are a Ministry of Propaganda and Coverup. This is true of the entire Western media, a collection of bought-and-paid-for whores."

Money, power and control

A friend of Steve Quayle named Kim T. wrote:
"The main stream media does what it is told to do. The reporters do what the owners tell them to do or they don’t get paid. The managers and owners are owned by corporation/advertisers which allow them to pay for the rent/mortgage, lights, supplies and the reporters--so the corporations will do one of two things...hype the event to a certain extent under their control to sell a product or service or tell the MSM not to report or under report on the issue so the event does not cause the reader/listener to re-evaluate and change their spending habits. That is one level of why we the people do not get any real news.
"Another level as to why we don’t get accurate news is the government, whose prime purpose is to be in power and control as much as they can. The government also has sponsors, advertisers or corporations that pay certain individuals in government positions to behave a certain way, to promote or discourage events or issues that would affect we the people’s behaviors which includes, financial decisions, voting and contributions to politicians among other personal choices we the people make which would make my explanation to long.
"Deeper levels include NWO-New World Order issues, satanic control, financial control by individuals beyond our human reach. The deeper levels have many arms and ways to control individuals within the different governments across the globe that control the media and then we the people."
"These individuals are chosen because they control others through various means...financial, and fear of losing something they care about; [these] are the main control methods for people who would not normally get on board, but we have to look at those that jump in with both feet because of greed and desire to be a part of the darkness. I’ve simplified the explanations or this could be a book."

Pre-packaged propaganda sent down in a pyramid fashion

A former media insider confirmed what Kim T. wrote:
"I spent about 15 years in the media - first in Hollywood and then 8 years in news production at CBS, ABC and FOX affiliate TV stations. It is really easy to control the news because all the proposed stories go through just a couple of point people designated as the "News Director" or the "Executive Producer" who have the final say on what hits the air. Consider Operation Mockingbird.
"I used to keep an email folder of all the stories I proposed. I always got the same response of "That's interesting" and never a follow up. It didn't matter how much documentation I could produce, they just would not touch certain topics.
"Further, all the national and international news reported in the US comes from the top down in a pyramid fashion : All local news stations subscribe to the 'CNN Feed' that provides story summaries with video and the 'AP Wire' that does the same. So most of the newscast is pre-packaged, and then the local stations re-write it for their anchors to report, plus add in the local stories in their respective markets."

A brief history lesson

Control of the US media is well documented for over 100 years. Below are a few examples. This history is mainly about journalism in the US. Similar stories can be found regarding corporate media in other parts of the world, especially if it relies on the US corporate media for news feeds.

19th Century Evidence

In 1880, the problem was already serious. Well-known New York journalist John Swinton told a group of leading journalists that the press was already being influenced by evil men:
"There is no such thing, at this date of the world's history, in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it.
"There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinion out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone.
"The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press?
"We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."

Bankster Buyout

In 1917 in a US Congressional meeting, it was recorded that in 1915 J.P. Morgan interests had acquired 25 of the leading newspapers, inserted their own editors and had been using the papers to suppress important information and influence public opinion to favor their policies:
"In March, 1915, the J.P. Morgan interests, the steel, ship building and powder interests and their subsidiary organizations, got together 12 men high up in the newspaper world and employed them to select the most influential newspapers in the United States and sufficient number of them to control generally the policy of the daily press in the United States...
"They found it was only necessary to purchase the control of 25 of the greatest papers. The 25 papers were agreed upon; emissaries were sent to purchase the policy, national and international, of these papers; an agreement was reached; the policy of the papers was bought, to be paid for by the month; an editor was furnished for each paper to properly supervise and edit information regarding the questions of preparedness, militarism, financial policies and other things of national and international nature considered vital to the interests of the purchasers...
"This policy also included the suppression of everything in opposition to the wishes of the interests served. The effectiveness of this scheme has been conclusively demonstrated by the character of the stuff carried in the daily press throughout the country since March, 1915. They have resorted to anything necessary to commercialize public sentiment and sandbag the National Congress into making extravagant and wasteful appropriations for the Army and Navy under false pretence that it was necessary. Their stock argument is that it is 'patriotism.' They are playing on every prejudice and passion of the American people."

Monolithic and Ruthless Conspiracy

In 1961 at an address to American newspaper publishers, President John F. Kennedy spoke of a huge, evil conspiracy that he had become aware of as president of the US. He was assassinated 939 days later.
"The very word 'secrecy' is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it...
"For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence–on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day.
"It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations.
"Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed."
"But I am asking the members of the newspaper profession and the industry in this country to reexamine their own responsibilities, to consider the degree and the nature of the present danger, and to heed the duty of self-restraint which that danger imposes upon us all"

MSM helpful in setting up the New World Order

In 1991 at a Trilateral Commission meeting, David Rockefeller, thanked the mainstream press for helping the global elite set up their new world order quietly without disclosing the process to the masses.
"We are grateful to the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected the promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world-government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries."

Full spectrum media dominance

F. William Engdahl's book, Full Spectrum Dominance: Totalitarian Democracy in the New World, describes how the US has a long-term goal of dominating and controlling all parts of the planet: land, sea, air, space, outer space and cyberspace. Their methods included control of propaganda, use of NGOs for regime change, Color Revolutions to advance NATO east, and a vast array of psychological and economic warfare techniques. The extent of their media dominance today is illustrated below.
