The Sumerians weren’t powerful from their military strength or political system; rather, it was agriculture that developed their civilization. Quite simply, the ancient Sumerians had developed techniques to produce far more agriculture than they could possibly consume. This food surplus meant that they could build up a large pool of savings to be used in trade, or to feed workers who could pursue other careers like science and architecture. Nearly every great civilization ever since has shared the same characteristics-- being able to produce more than it consumes. In fact, no society can survive without the ability to feed itself. We’ve seen this throughout history. When the Sumerians’ complex , centrally-planned network of canals failed to adequately irrigate their farmland, the civilization quickly declined. The Roman Empire was notorious for routinely invading other lands looking to secure additional sources of food. During the American Civil War, a large part of the Union’s strategy was to cut off the South from its food sources, and burn to the ground every acre of farmland they could find. And despite decades of economic hardship, the French Revolution finally kicked off in 1789 because the nation could no longer feed itself... and people were starving. Early on in US history, the country’s strength came from this same ability to produce more than it consumed. And over the centuries the US became farmer to the world, exporting interminable quantities of food like a never-ended breadbasket. But that trend peaked long ago. Over the past five years, for example, the amount of farmland in the US has decreased by 5 million acres each year, often due to land development or aging farmers quitting the business. This is equivalent to losing nearly one square mile of farmland every hour, or 9.5 acres per minute. The same trend is taking place in China, where more than 40% of the country’s arable land has been lost in recent years due to development, drought, and topsoil erosion. Yet while we’re seeing a dramatic decline in the amount of farmland available per person in the world’s largest powers, demand is rapidly increasing. I’m not just talking about population growth, which is a given. There’s also the growth in demand that comes with economic development. As a nation’s wealth increases, so does its demand for food. The billion people across Asia being lifted out of poverty into the middle class are consuming more Calories than ever before, and consuming meat for the first time ever. Raising animals for meat production requires far more land per Calorie than growing fruits, vegetables, and grains. So not only are people consuming more Calories, but they’re also requiring more land per Calorie. This is a clearly unsustainable trend: the world needs more farmland per capita to meet food production needs at a time when the amount of farmland is in decline. On top of all this are the water challenges that many parts of the world are experiencing. California is a great example. It’s well known that the entire state of California is experiencing EXTREME drought conditions. What’s less known is that, along with many other crops, California is the world’s top almond producer. The state produces 80% of the global almond supply, completely dwarfing production in the rest of the world combined. Yet at the same time, California almond growers consume nearly 10% of the state’s water supply. Think about it-- when you export agriculture, you are also exporting all the resources and inputs that go into producing that agriculture. So at a time when the entire state is suffering from extreme drought, California almond farmers are essentially exporting 10% of the state’s dwindling water supply. This math doesn’t add up. And it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that, at a minimum, the price of almonds is due to rise dramatically in the coming years. Almonds are just one example. We can see this across the board with food in general. For most crops, yields peaked long ago; in other words, human beings are already extracting the maximum amount of tons, kilos, bushels, etc. per acre. And thanks to absurd government and monetary policy, we’re simultaneously seeing rising production costs, as well as idiotic incentives to turn food into inefficient fuel. Or subsidies which pay farmers to not grow at all. These trends are all converging at the same time, suggesting a long-term rise in food prices, and in some cases even shortages. This isn’t some sensational, headline-grabbing nonsense. It’s simple arithmetic based on objective, publicly available data. And it’s a trend that will affect nearly everyone on the planet. On a small scale, you can do well for yourself by planting a small garden with some fruit and nut trees in your own backyard. Worst case you enhance your property value and have a small supply of organic food. On a larger scale, owning productive farmland and selling food across the value chain may turn out to be one of the best investments of the decade. But with farmland prices at all-time highs in the US, and water availability highly questionable, the real opportunities lie overseas. More on that tomorrow. PS. So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary. Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one year and we are $918,000 over budget, we must cut back." So they laid-off the night watchman. NOW slowly, let it sink in. It was very simple... and at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate. The Department of Energy was instituted on 8/04/1977, TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL. Hey, pretty efficient, huh??? AND NOW IT'S 2012 -- 35 YEARS LATER -- AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS "NECESSARY" DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. IT HAS 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; AND LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE! Could the active ingredient in marijuana, responsible for its characteristic "high," help turn the tide against the accelerating Alzheimer's epidemic?

A remarkable study published in the journal Molecular Pharmacology in 2006, found that this long vilified plant contains a compound with not one, but two therapeutic properties ideal for addressing both the surface symptom (memory problems) and root cause (brain plaque) of Alzheimer's disease.[i]  This is an ironic finding, considering that the prevailing stereotype is that using marijuana "fries" the brain, leading to debilitating memory issues.

Researchers discovered that the psychoactive component of marijuana, Δ⁹-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), both "competitively inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE) as well as prevents AChE-induced amyloid β-peptide (Aβ) aggregation".

On the first account, THC's ability to inhibit the AChE enzyme, is not unlike the mechanism of action behind most Alzheimer's drugs on the market today. Drugs like donepezil (trade name Aricept), for instance, by targeting and inhibiting the brain enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE), result in an increase in brain levels of this neurotransmitter, which in turn, results in symptom reduction, i.e. improved memory. Donepezil, however, is riddled with controversy due its well-known association with seizures, which likely reflects its intrinsic neurotoxicity.  It is, in fact, a chemical in the same general chemical class as venom, insecticides and chemical war agents, such as nerve gas.

On the second account, THC's ability to prevent the acetylcholinesterase-associated amyloid β-peptide (Aβ) aggregation, i.e. brain plaque, indicates that it may, as the researchers noted, "directly impact Alzheimer's disease pathology." In fact, they found "Compared to currently approved drugs prescribed for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, THC is a considerably superior inhibitor of Aβ aggregation, and this study provides a previously unrecognized molecular mechanism through which cannabinoid molecules may directly impact the progression of this debilitating disease."

What is so encouraging about this research, and which the researchers described as "noteworthy", is the following:

THC is a considerably more effective inhibitor of AChE-induced Aβ deposition than the approved drugs for Alzheimer's disease treatment, donepezil and tacrine, which reduced Aβ aggregation by only 22% and 7%, respectively, at twice the concentration used in our studies.⁷ Therefore, AChE inhibitors such as THC and its analogues may provide an improved therapeutic for Alzheimer's disease, augmenting acetylcholine levels by preventing neurotransmitter degradation and reducing Aβ aggregation, thereby simultaneously treating both the symptoms and progression of Alzheimer's disease

THC, of course, is only one of a wide range of cannabinoids in the plant marijuana. Not only is there already plentiful information on the neuroprotective properties of marijuana compounds, but there is also a sizeable body of clinical and/or biomedical research indicating the medicinal value of this plant in over 150 health conditions. Russia Prepares For Ukraine Blitzkrieg As Putin Vows He Won’t Let Nazis Win

A truly ominous Ministry of Defense (MoD) readiness report circulating in the Kremlin today is apparently showing that the Southern Military District is in the final preparations for a blitzkrieg attack upon the eastern regions of Ukraine in order to protect its Russian speaking citizens from annihilation at the hands of the neo-Nazi led and Obama regime backed government in Kiev.

Blitzkrieg (German for “lightning war”) is an anglicized term describing a method of warfare whereby an attacking force spearheaded by a dense concentration of armored and motorized or mechanized infantry formations, and heavily backed up by close air support, forces a breakthrough into the enemy's line of defense through a series of short, fast, powerful attacks; and once in the enemy's territory, proceeds to dislocate them using speed and surprise, and then encircle them.

What makes this MoD report particularly to be noticed are the Southern Military District battle group assignments for late November/early December that include the 22nd Spetsnaz Brigade and the Black Sea Fleets 810th Marine Brigade securing the city of Mariupol, which is the tenth-largest city in Ukraine and the second largest in the Donetsk Oblast.

This MoD report further states that the anti-mining operation(s) of the Mariupol sea lanes conducted on 11 November were “highly successful”, thus offering an explanation to themassive explosion witnessed by residents of this city off of their coastline and that had previously been left unexplained, but still left this region in fear.

Mariupol, it is important to note, is the key city which stands in Russia's way to make a land bridge from its territory to the Republic of Crimea which on 18 March rejoined the Federation, but that the Newsweek News Service warned yesterday it’s now a common belief, on all sides, that the fragile cease-fire in Ukraine will turn before long into a hot and bloody conflict that could drag the whole region—if not the whole world—into war.

In explaining to the German public broadcasting organization ARD his fears of this region yesterday President Putin stated:

“Frankly speaking, we are very concerned about any possible ethnic cleansings and Ukraine ending up as a neo-Nazi state. What are we supposed to think if people are bearing swastikas on their sleeves? Or what about the SS emblems that we see on the helmets of some military units now fighting in eastern Ukraine? If it is a civilized state, where are the authorities looking? At least they could get rid of this uniform, they could make the nationalists remove these emblems.”

Even more ominously in his interview with ARD, Putin warned:

“Today there is fighting in eastern Ukraine. The Ukrainian central authorities have sent the armed forces there and they even use ballistic missiles. Does anybody speak about it? Not a single word. And what does it mean? What does it tell us? This points to the fact, that you want the Ukrainian central authorities to annihilate everyone there, all of their political foes and opponents. Is that what you want? We certainly don’t. And we won't let it happen.”

Even more concerning to Putin and Russia, and which we had reported on in our 2 November report Mutilated Bodies Of 286 Young Girls Found Buried In Ukrainian-Nazi “Rape Camp”, is the Obama regimes continuing to ignore the ISIS-style war crimes of Ukraine and its neo-Nazi forces reported by Amnesty International that include the shooting down of Malaysian Airlines flight 17 by two Ukrainian fighter jets. 

To the timeline of the Southern Military District taking control of Mariupol by December, this report notes, is based upon “US domestic political realities” that the MoD leaves unexplained, but with the anti-Russia Republican Party taking power in Washington D.C. this coming January really doesn’t need to be explained either, especially with Senator John McCain vowing to arm Ukraine when he takes over the Senate Arms Services Chairmanship.

As to how the Obama regime will respond to a Russian blitzkrieg against the neo-Nazi Ukrainian government this MoD report doesn’t say, but with US Secretary of State John Kerrysigning a secret agreement with Saudi Arabia to flood the world with cheap oil in order to destroy the Russian economy this past September, one should always note that economic warfare between major nations always leads all-out, if not total global war.
