The right-of-center news portal Town Hall is citing on June 11, 2013, multiple news sources exposing that during her tenure as the U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton's time at the helm was marred by various sex scandals so vast, one was described as "endemic." Internal State Department Inspector General's memo several recent investigations were influenced, manipulated, or simply called off. Of the cancelled or delayed investigations, specific examples include: An unnamed State Department security official in Beirut "engaged in sexual assaults" on foreign nationals hired as embassy guards. Yet another unnamed individual, this time an ambassador who "routinely ditched ... his protective security detail" and the IG believes this was in order for him to "solicit sexual favors from prostitutes." In what could be more than a slight detriment to her run for the Democratic presidential nomination, the alleged felonies happened under the Hillary Clinton watch at State. To make matters worse, NBC reports that the investigation was ordered by, yet again, unnamed "top state department officials" to "cease the investigation." A New York State Of Mind... Is this scandal number five or number six? There’s Benghazi, the IRS, the DOJ snooping on reporters, Sebelius shaking down health executives for ObamaCare contributions, and now the NSA/PRISM/Snowden mega-clusterfark. This new WaPo story makes six. No, wait — seven. Ed just posted on the State Department covering up misconduct. We’re going to need a bigger boat. Actually, there are two potential scandals here. One is HHS tossing around what was supposed to be sensitive information to a huge swath of employees in-house. The other scandal is who actually leaked it, assuming anyone did. It might not have come from HHS at all but rather from some old-fashioned Beltway congressional/lobbyist incest. As with most of the other Obama scandals, this story is less about O himself than about the foreseeable abuses that result as the federal whale grows. You can have bigger government or you can have more accountable government. The guy who signed ObamaCare into law has made his choice. Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) told The Washington Post late last week that his office reviewed the e-mail records of employees at the Department of Health and Human Services and found that 436 of them had early access to the Medicare decision as much as two weeks before it was made public… “In the statistical agencies, where the handling of sensitive information is their bread and butter, they’re very serious about confidentiality,” said Keith Hall, a former commissioner at the Bureau of Labor Statistics who has spent more than two decades in government. “But in other parts of the government that handle policy issues, there’s a whole different level of treatment.” Hall said employees in other parts of the government, including the Medicare office, are not subject to the same types of potential consequences as employees at statistical agencies, who can land in prison for up to five years and face a fine of a quarter of a million dollars for disclosing information early. Giving hundreds of government employees advance notice of a policy decision “is way too many,” said Hall, now a senior fellow at George Mason University’s Mercatus Center. “I’ve done my share of working on policy issues and policy decisions, and you just don’t spread that stuff around like that.” A brokerage firm in D.C. announced late in the trading day on April 1 that a decision to boost funding for Medicare Advantage was forthcoming. Shares of Humana and Aetna skyrocketed. Later that day, after the markets had closed, the feds confirmed that, indeed, another $8 billion would be plowed into the program. So who at HHS blabbed? Maybe no one: Per WaPo and this WSJ report from a few weeks ago, the feds seem to be interested in a lobbyist who — ta da — used to work as a health-care policy advisor to Chuck Grassley himself and who now specializes in “political intelligence.” (He also had a “role” in writing ObamaCare, per the WSJ, and used to work on health-care legislation with someone who’s now a “senior official” at CMS, the division of HHS that made the decision on increasing funding for Medicare Advantage.) The SEC knows he was communicating with at least one current staffer in Grassley’s office; the question is whether that staffer slipped the information on the Medicare decision to the lobbyist or whether the lobbyist somehow “guessed” that Medicare funding would be increased based on tidbits of info he gleaned from various sources on the Hill. Even if it’s the latter, with no one having directly fed him confidential information, the surge in Humana/Aetna shares based on his analysis is a direct result of his access to government’s major players. When a former Grassley advisor and colleague of a bigwig at CMS tells you that he thinks a windfall’s coming, you listen. Big government takes care of its alumni. No wonder those alumni are unhappy about this SEC probe: The episode is sending tremors through Washington’s world of policy experts, lobbyists and Wall Street researchers. The investigation has signaled that federal prosecutors are trying to clamp down on what they see as the capital’s loose oversight of market-moving information. More broadly, it has shaken a city where acquiring and sharing information is a basic tool of business. Some insiders say the traditional ways of operating may need to change. It “is astounding that so many in Washington view the trading of unreleased government information as simply ‘business as usual,’” said William Pewen, a former Republican health-care aide who also was on the Senate Finance Committee. Task one for the SEC is finding out who leaked the Medicare Advantage scoop. Task two is taking a hard look at movement in Humana’s and Aetna’s shares in the weeks before the news dropped and seeing if any HHS employees who knew what was coming had any investment epiphanies. As for HHS itself, this is a timely reminder of something that the NSA and Booz Allen are learning today the hard way: The sloppier you are about controlling access to sensitive information, the more certain it is that you’ll be haunted by it eventually. Even if no one exploited the Medicare Advantage decision this time, it’ll happen going forward if hundreds of people continue to receive sensitive scoops. That’s simple probability. And that points to an irony of Scandalmania: Whatever else comes from all this policy-wise, the one guaranteed result is tighter secrecy protocols within a government that already treats as secret too much information that isn’t truly sensitive. Information will get tighter, there’ll be more disaffected Snowdens trying to leak it, and of course more lobbyists making a buck on their special access to the many Washington secrets that haven’t leaked. As I tend to my severely strained right deltoid muscle, which, quite frankly, is making just about everything difficult to do, not to mention the havoc it’s playing on my back. I want to share with you some thoughts by Joseph Curl that reflect what I was trying to express, oh so humorously (even if I do say so myself,) in my Friday post “Surveillance.” He summarizes: So wait: Members of the Obama administration rolled out yet another scandal that isn’t a scandal? You bet they did (c’mon, The Guardian?). And this one has been a blast for them. First, top Team Obama officials have gotten to say their favorite word, over and over: “Bush.” Second, Republicans awoke from the slumber long enough to decry — the very thing they supported under George W. Bush. Bonanza. “Seizing phone records of millions of innocent people is excessive and un-American,” said Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner Jr., author of the excessive and un-American Patriot Act in 2001. “This is a big deal, a really big deal,” the Wisconsin Republican said of the tiny story that will fade faster than Liberace’s love of a new boy toy. So, another scandal that goes nowhere. Let’s recount: There’s the IRS scandal — the agency’s targeting tea party organizations. But half the country went, “Good. %&*@ the tea party.” And it’ll end with a few heads lopped off, mostly done already. There’s the AP phone scandal — Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. testified under oath that he didn’t know a thing: Done. There’s the Fox News scandal: Half the country went, “Good. #$@% Fox News.” A story with no legs. The drip-drip-drip of scandal is deliberate: Give the press something to chew on (and it’s just fat, so lots of chewing). It’s a long summer, in an off year — Year No. 5, scandal year. Remember, this is the administration that said, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.” So they decided, “Hey, let’s do our own scandals!” And today, we have news of more scandals. Other than his take on the IRS, I mostly agree with this assessment. I am skeptical of how high up the IRS scandal will go, but I do not believe it was met with any apathy from the public. It is his conclusion I agree with and most fear: But watching these scandals come and just as quickly go makes me wonder. Maybe the once-tight-as-a-drum administration suddenly has sprung a leak — or five. Maybe its sheer incompetence has simply caught up with it. But something smells fishy, nothing adds up. And with each emerging scandal, the most damning one — Benghazi — recedes a bit more into the past. Come September, we’ll likely look back and say, “Huh. Lotta’ smoke, no fire.” But four Americans are dead: We still don’t know why. And that’s a real scandal. Ambassador Stevens' rescuers were ordered to “stand down.” Imagine yourself a former Navy SEAL in Libya, aware of the terrorist attack on our consulate. You and your buddy, also a former SEAL, desire to fight the attackers until the Calvary arrives. You are ordered to “stand down.” But you are a former SEAL, you can not simply sit back and allow terrorists to murder Americans. You and your buddy disobey orders and come to the rescue. Assuming that the Calvary in the form of air support is on the way because Americans are under attack and we never leave Americans behind, you use your laser to mark the enemy's location. This will assist our guys in launching their aerial attack. But your assumption that help is on the way is wrong. Our planes are not in the air because someone high in the Obama Administration, for political reasons, ordered our military to “stand down.” All your laser did was tip off your location to the Islamist terrorists. Former U.S. Navy SEALs Tony Smith and Glen Doherty were killed. Why? Because someone in the Obama Administration gave the order to “stand down.” In their continuing effort to protect Obama at any and all cost – which includes national security and the lives of Americans, the mainstream media promotes the narrative that the American people do not understand or care about Benghazi. They attempt to brand everyone investigating Benghazi as partisan racists out to get the president. While low-info Americans may not understand the politics, they can relate to the betrayal of being abandoned by ones country. At Fort McNair, an army
base located along the Potomac River in the nation’s capital, a chance reunion
takes place one day between two former POWs. It’s the spring of 1974, and Navy
commander John Sidney McCain III has returned home from the experience in Hanoi
that, according to legend, transformed him from a callow and reckless youth
into a serious man of patriotism and purpose. Walking along the grounds at Fort
McNair, McCain runs into John Dramesi, an Air Force lieutenant colonel who was
also imprisoned and tortured in Vietnam.McCain is studying at the National War College, a prestigious graduate program he had to pull strings with the Secretary of the Navy to get into. Dramesi is enrolled, on his own merit, at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in the building next door.

There’s a distance between the two men that belies their shared experience in North Vietnam — call it an honor gap. Like many American POWs, McCain broke down under torture and offered a “confession” to his North Vietnamese captors. Dramesi, in contrast, attempted two daring escapes. For the second he was brutalized for a month with daily torture sessions that nearly killed him. His partner in the escape, Lt. Col. Ed Atterberry, didn’t survive the mistreatment. But Dramesi never said a disloyal word, and for his heroism was awarded two Air Force Crosses, one of the service’s highest distinctions. McCain would later hail him as “one of the toughest guys I’ve ever met.”

On the grounds between the two brick colleges, the chitchat between the scion of four-star admirals and the son of a prizefighter turns to their academic travels; both colleges sponsor a trip abroad for young officers to network with military and political leaders in a distant corner of the globe.
“I’m going to the Middle East,” Dramesi says. “Turkey, Kuwait, Lebanon, Iran.”
“Why are you going to the Middle East?” McCain asks, dismissively.
“It’s a place we’re probably going to have some problems,” Dramesi says.
“Why? Where are you going to, John?”
“Oh, I’m going to Rio.”
“What the hell are you going to Rio for?”
McCain, a married father of three, shrugs.
“I got a better chance of getting laid.”
Dramesi, who went on to serve as chief war planner for U.S. Air Forces in Europe and commander of a wing of the Strategic Air Command, was not surprised. “McCain says his life changed while he was in Vietnam, and he is now a different man,” Dramesi says today. “But he’s still the undisciplined, spoiled brat that he was when he went in.”

This is the story of the real John McCain, the one who has been hiding in plain sight. It is the story of a man who has consistently put his own advancement above all else, a man willing to say and do anything to achieve his ultimate ambition: to become commander in chief, ascending to the one position that would finally enable him to outrank his four-star father and grandfather.
In its broad strokes, McCain’s life story is oddly similar to that of the current occupant of the White House. John Sidney McCain III and George Walker Bush both represent the third generation of American dynasties. Both were born into positions of privilege against which they rebelled into mediocrity. Both developed an uncanny social intelligence that allowed them to skate by with a minimum of mental exertion. Both struggled with booze and loutish behavior. At each step, with the aid of their fathers’ powerful friends, both failed upward. And both shed their skins as Episcopalian members of the Washington elite to build political careers as self-styled, ranch-inhabiting Westerners who pray to Jesus in their wives’ evangelical churches.
In one vital respect, however, the comparison is deeply unfair to the current president: George W. Bush was a much better pilot.

This, of course, is not the story McCain tells about himself. Few politicians have so actively, or successfully, crafted their own myth of greatness. In McCain's version of his life, he is a prodigal son who, steeled by his brutal internment in Vietnam, learned to put "country first." Remade by the Keating Five scandal that nearly wrecked his career, the story goes, McCain re-emerged as a "reformer" and a "maverick," righteously eschewing anything that "might even tangentially be construed as a less than proper use of my office."
It's a myth McCain has cultivated throughout his decades in Washington. But during the course of this year's campaign, the mask has slipped. "Let's face it," says Larry Wilkerson, a retired Army colonel who served as chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell. "John McCain made his reputation on the fact that he doesn't bend his principles for politics. That's just not true."
We have now watched McCain run twice for president. The first time he positioned himself as a principled centrist and decried the politics of Karl Rove and the influence of the religious right, imploring voters to judge candidates "by the example we set, by the way we conduct our campaigns, by the way we personally practice politics." After he lost in 2000, he jagged hard to the left — breaking with the president over taxes, drilling, judicial appointments, even flirting with joining the Democratic Party.
In his current campaign, however, McCain has become the kind of politician he ran against in 2000. He has embraced those he once denounced as "agents of intolerance," promised more drilling and deeper tax cuts, even compromised his vaunted opposition to torture. Intent on winning the presidency at all costs, he has reassembled the very team that so viciously smeared him and his family eight years ago, selecting as his running mate a born-again moose hunter whose only qualification for office is her ability to electrify Rove's base. And he has engaged in a "practice of politics" so deceptive that even Rove himself has denounced it, saying that the outright lies in McCain's campaign ads go "too far" and fail the "truth test."
The missing piece of this puzzle, says a former McCain confidant who has fallen out with the senator over his neoconservatism, is a third, never realized, campaign that McCain intended to run against Bush in 2004. "McCain wanted a rematch, based on ethics, campaign finance and Enron — the corrupt relationship between Bush's team and the corporate sector," says the former friend, a prominent conservative thinker with whom McCain shared his plans over the course of several dinners in 2001. "But when 9/11 happened, McCain saw his chance to challenge Bush again was robbed. He saw 9/11 gave Bush and his failed presidency a second life. He saw Bush and Cheney's ability to draw stark contrasts between black and white, villains and good guys. And that's why McCain changed." (The McCain campaign did not respond to numerous requests for comment from Rolling Stone.)
Indeed, many leading Republicans who once admired McCain see his recent contortions to appease the GOP base as the undoing of a maverick. "John McCain's ambition overrode his basic character," says Rita Hauser, who served on the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board from 2001 to 2004. But the truth of the matter is that ambition is John McCain's basic character. Seen in the sweep of his seven-decade personal history, his pandering to the right is consistent with the only constant in his life: doing what's best for himself. To put the matter squarely: John McCain is his own special interest.
"John has made a pact with the devil," says Lincoln Chafee, the former GOP senator, who has been appalled at his one-time colleague's readiness to sacrifice principle for power. Chafee and McCain were the only Republicans to vote against the Bush tax cuts. They locked arms in opposition to drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. And they worked together in the "Gang of 14," which blocked some of Bush's worst judges from the federal bench.
"On all three — sadly, sadly, sadly — McCain has flip-flopped," Chafee says. And forget all the "Country First" sloganeering, he adds. "McCain is putting himself first. He's putting himself first in blinking neon lights."
THE NAVY BRAT
John Sidney McCain III has spent most of his life trying to escape the shadow of greater men. His grandfather Adm. John Sidney "Slew" McCain earned his four stars commanding a U.S. carrier force in World War II. His deeply ambitious father, Adm. "Junior" McCain, reached the same rank, commanding America's forces in the Pacific during Vietnam.
The youngest McCain was not cut from the same cloth. Even as a toddler, McCain recalls in Faith of My Fathers, his volcanic temper was on display. "At the smallest provocation," he would hold his breath until he passed out: "I would go off in a mad frenzy, and then, suddenly, crash to the floor unconscious." His parents cured him of this habit in a way only a CIA interrogator could appreciate: by dropping their blue-faced boy in a bathtub of ice-cold water.
Trailing his hard-charging, hard-drinking father from post to post, McCain didn't play well with others. Indeed, he concedes, his runty physique inspired a Napoleon complex: "My small stature motivated me to . . . fight the first kid who provoked me."
McCain spent his formative years among the Washington elite. His father — himself deep in the throes of a daddy complex — had secured a political post as the Navy's chief liaison to the Senate, a job his son would later hold, and the McCain home on Southeast 1st Street was a high-powered pit stop in the Washington cocktail circuit. Growing up, McCain attended Episcopal High School, an all-white, all-boys boarding school across the Potomac in Virginia, where tuition today tops $40,000 a year. There, McCain behaved with all the petulance his privilege allowed, earning the nicknames "Punk" and "McNasty." Even his friends seemed to dislike him, with one recalling him as "a mean little fucker."
McCain
was not only a lousy student, he had his father's taste for drink and a darkly
misogynistic streak. The summer after his sophomore year, cruising with a
friend near Arlington, McCain tried to pick up a pair of young women. When they
laughed at him, he cursed them so vilely that he was hauled into court on a
profanity charge.

During
her interview with C-SPAN on Wednesday, she also stated that NSA spying is
“just broader than most people even realize” but due to security restrictions
she could not reveal more than that. So precisely what are the American
people not being told? And do our leaders ever plan to tell us the
truth?
Many of our politicians have come
down extremely hard on whistleblower Edward Snowden, but if it wasn’t for him
most Americans would have no idea what the NSA has been up to. Is the
Obama administration going to come clean on this, or do we have to wait for
even more whistleblowers to come forward? The American people deserve to
know that they are being spied on, and it appears that those in charge of doing
this spying have been flat out lying to Congress about it.
Today, one of the most powerful
men in the U.S. government is Keith Alexander, the Director of the NSA.
According to a Wired article that just
came out, Alexander “is regarded with a mixture of respect and fear” by those
inside the government…
Inside the government,
the general is regarded with a mixture of respect and fear, not unlike J. Edgar
Hoover, another security figure whose tenure spanned multiple presidencies. “We
jokingly referred to him as Emperor Alexander—with good cause, because whatever
Keith wants, Keith gets,” says one former senior CIA official who agreed to
speak on condition of anonymity. “We would sit back literally in awe of what he
was able to get from Congress, from the White House, and at the expense of
everybody else.”
And
according to that same article, Alexander foresees a day when the entire
Internet will be directly under NSA control…
Alexander runs the
nation’s cyberwar efforts, an empire he has built over the past eight years by
insisting that the US’s inherent vulnerability to digital attacks requires him
to amass more and more authority over the data zipping around the globe. In his
telling, the threat is so mind-bogglingly huge that the nation has little
option but to eventually put the entire civilian Internet under his protection,
requiring tweets and emails to pass through his filters, and putting the kill
switch under the government’s forefinger. “What we see is an increasing level
of activity on the networks,” he said at a recent security conference in Canada.
“I am concerned that this is going to break a threshold where the private
sector can no longer handle it and the government is going to have to step in.”Does that paragraph put a chill up your spine?
It should.
The free and open Internet that we enjoy today may not always exist. The power of government may eventually transform it into something else entirely.
And as Dr. Jerome Corsi has
just written about, Alexander has now publicly confirmed much of what Edward
Snowden has been alleging…
The NSA director
confirmed to Congress today that leaker Edward Snowden had access to a highly
sensitive database containing personal information that could be mined to track
a target’s thoughts and actions and possibly predict future acts.U.S. Army General Keith B. Alexander, commander of U.S. Cyber Command and director of the National Security Agency, told the Senate Appropriations Committee that Snowden “had great skills as an IT (Internet Technology) system administrator.”
Yes, in this day and age every nation needs intelligence agencies. But they should be used to spy on the enemies of the American people, not on the American people themselves. The Fourth Amendment is supposed to be our guarantee that the government will not invade our privacy or investigate us unless there is probable cause that we have committed a crime. That means that if they don’t have probable cause they are supposed to leave us alone.
Unfortunately, those running our government seem to
have a tremendous disdain for the U.S. Constitution. In fact, all over
the western world we are seeing freedoms and liberties being destroyed.

By now it should be clear
to anyone paying attention that most of Western civilization is on a dangerous
slide into tyranny.They’re confiscating funds directly from people’s bank accounts. They’re seizing reporters’ personal records and phone logs. They’re digitally spying on everyone’s emails.
They’ve authorized military detention and drone assassination of their own citizens.
They’re using tax offices to harass political opposition groups.
They tell us what we are allowed to eat and drink, what foods we are allowed to put in our own body.
Think about it. These are Soviet tactics, plain and simple.
What’s more, they don’t even care. They think we’re all idiots who are too stupid to even notice what they’re doing.
Now is the time for the American people to stand up and object to all of this.
If you are waiting for our politicians to save you, then you are going to be waiting for a very, very long time.
And most Americans have already figured this
out. According to a new Gallup survey that was just released, the
confidence that the American people have in Congress is at an all-time
low. Only 10 percent of all Americans have
confidence in our legislative branch at this point.
If the American people do
not demand change now, it will be a signal to those doing the snooping that
they can push the envelope even farther.
We need to heed the warnings of the
whistleblowers. Our own government has been listening to our most private
conversations and they have been totally getting away with it. Just check
out what NSA whistleblower Adrienne J. Kinne told NSA expert James Bamford…
I also wrote about
Adrienne J. Kinne, an NSA intercept operator who attempted to blow the whistle
on the NSA’s illegal eavesdropping on Americans following the 9/11 attacks.
“Basically all rules were thrown out the window,” she said, “and they would use
any excuse to justify a waiver to spy on Americans.” Even journalists calling
home from overseas were included. “A lot of time you could tell they were
calling their families,” she says, “incredibly intimate, personal
conversations.” She only told her story to me after attempting, and failing, to
end the illegal activity with appeals all the way up the chain of command to
Major General Keith Alexander, head of the Army’s Intelligence and Security
Command at the time.Do you want the government to listen to your “intimate, personal conversations”, record them and stash them in a giant data center out in Utah where they will be held forever?

by Americans looking for answers into the deep mysteries of government activity.
There is something else you should know, however: Freedom of Information Act
requests aren’t just for those who are seeking information on black ops

You can use it yourself to discover what
organizations like the National Security Agency or the Federal Bureau
of Investigation have on your file. Amazingly, FIOA can be used by you to
get whatever files that the NSA or FBI or any other three letter agency has on
you. And with the latest round of leaks covered by Anthony Gucciardi detailing how
the NSA is tracking your activity through just about all of the major social
websites, this is big news.
Perhaps you are
politically active and have gone to a few protests and were arrested, or maybe
you post a lot of political articles on your favorite social networking
site.
Grabbing
Your File
There are two ways you can get your file. Your
first option is to get it straight from the source. For the NSA file, you can
go to the FOIA request form. Or for the FBI, you can go to their official
request form as well. Or perhaps you don’t feel comfortable going
through that process and would rather use another party, in which case you can
utilize the website Get My FBI File. This
website provides the forms for most agencies, CIA, DIA, FBI, NSA, etc.
Since the conception of
FOIA in 1966, it has been amended eleven times. Most notably by President
Gerald Ford in 1974. At first, President Ford was for bolstering various
privacy-related amendments, however he then performed a complete 180 on the
issue (after being persuaded by his Chief of Staff Donald Rumsfield, and Deputy
Richard Cheney), signing a Presidential veto that was eventually overturned by
Congress. This was only one of twelve vetoes that were overturned by congress
