Back in the 1970's, researcher Dennis Burkitt, MD noticed that rural Africans eating their traditional diet had almost no colon cancer, constipation, diabetes, diverticulosis or diverticulitis, heart disease or IBS. On the other hand, Africans consuming a more Western-type diet suffered from ALL of those problems and more. He saw a similar situation when comparing hospitals in India and America... In a hospital in India, he found that there virtually no one that had a hiatal hernia, yet hiatal hernia affects nearly 1 out of 3 Americans over age 50. Plus, the rate of appendicitis in the American hospital was 50 TIMES what it was in the Indian hospital! After his jaw dropped, Dr. Burkitt concluded that the large amount of fiber in the African and Indian diets was the reason for the dramatically low rates of illness. And lo and behold, the age of "Get more fiber" was upon us.   A whole lot more than keeping you "regular" Since Dr. Burkitt's studies, we've learned a lot more about the health benefits of fiber. Keeping you "regular" is just the beginning. In addition to helping prevent constipation, fiber also: - Helps with Crohn's disease, hiatal hernia, IBS and peptic ulcer - Reduces your risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and certain types of cancer (especially colon cancer) - Helps normalize your cholesterol levels - Reduces the incidence of colon polyps and bowel diseases - Helps prevent obesity by slowing the release of insulin and stored glucose in your bloodstream - Helps prevent appendicitis, hemorrhoids and even varicose veins - Binds with toxins in your intestines and helps them to be eliminated with your bowel movement, instead of being reabsorbed and making you sick   The three types of fiber "Fiber" actually refers to three different types -- Insoluble, soluble and semi-soluble. Each has its own unique health benefits as shown below: 1- Insoluble fiber Insoluble fiber is basically like a broom to your gut. You don't digest it, but it helps "move things along" and keeps your colon very healthy. It is what is responsible for improved BMs and fewer symptoms of bowel issues like Crohn's. Insoluble fiber is found in the outside layer of grains, in the skins of most fruits and vegetables and in the long, stringy strands of celery.   2- Soluble fiber Soluble fiber is in the "meaty" part of fruits and vegetables as well as in beans, legumes and psyllium seeds. It's the type of fiber that is associated with lower cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes. You don't actually digest soluble fiber--the friendly flora in your gut do that job. You get an added benefit here too--when your beneficial gut bacteria break down soluble fiber they release short-chain fatty acids. These fatty acids help keep your colon wall strong and can also help prevent cancer.   3- Semi-soluble fiber Semi-soluble fiber is part of the cell wall of carbohydrates from plants like asparagus, chicory, leeks, onions, Jerusalem artichokes, flaxseeds and psyllium husks. Semi-soluble fiber can help grab onto and remove dangerous heavy metals from your body that you take in from food and the environment. It also can be a source of nourishment for your friendly flora.   We're falling WAY short In the 1850's the average American ate 25 to 30 grams of fiber a day naturally from their diet and conditions like diverticulosis were unheard of. Now? We're lucky if we get 14 to 15. Most people today get far less than that. No wonder we're blocked up, bloated, burping, belching and are the leaders of the free world in gut problems. At least 1 out of every 4 Americans has a digestive disorder and those numbers continue to climb.   We need more! But what and how much? Clearly it's no secret that we need fiber. Even the medical community acknowledges this and frequently recommends "more fiber" for a variety of GI problems. But the problem is, that's where their fiber suggestions end. And as a result, if you blindly hop on the "more fiber" bandwagon, it can hurt you more than help you. Here's how: Fiber in a jar As I mentioned above, fiber can be found in a variety of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. But some people would rather stick needles in their eyeballs than to eat a fruit, vegetable or a "grain" other than white bread. Still others don't want to be bothered preparing fresh foods. So what do they do instead? Take Metamucil of course! They'll be all set, right? Well, not exactly. Metamucil (and similar products) is a psyllium husk-based laxative. It contains 3 grams of fiber (about the same as an apple) which is FAR below the recommended 25-30 grams. And regardless of its fiber content, it nonetheless is a laxative which can not only be habit-forming but also make your intestines sluggish and eventually make YOU unable to have a bowel movement without it. Hmmm. Let's now look at... Fiber in a box General Mills and Kellogg's hit the mother lode when the fiber craze began. After all, it gave them a VERY profitable angle to use in marketing their processed-to-death so-called "foods" by actually making them appear healthy in another way besides the sprinkled-in synthetic nutrients. Because now they could use the fiber angle too!  Chi-ching! Here's the reality. the top three ingredients in General Mills' fiber "superstar"--Whole Grain Total cereal: Ingredient  #1:  Whole wheat -- in a form that has NEVER occurred in nature. Here's how far it's traveled from Nature's version of wheat: First the wheat gets mixed with flavoring agents, synthetic vitamins, minerals, sweeteners, salt and water in a huge pressure cooker. Once it's cooked to death, the wheat is moved to a conveyor belt which passes through a drying oven. But enough of the water is left in the cooked grain to result in a soft, solid mass which can be shaped as needed. The cooked wheat is allowed to cool for several hours, then it's flattened between large metal rollers under TONS of pressure. The resulting flakes are then moved to ovens where they are blasted with very hot air to remove any remaining moisture and to toast them to a desired color and flavor. Tell me, how many nutrients do you think are left in the slop, er, I mean wheat at this point? Ingredient #2: Sugar and... Ingredient #3: Corn syrup -- MORE sugar. Whole Grain Total has a moderate 5g (1 1/4 teaspoons) of sugar in each 3/4 cup "serving," but when was the last time you ate just 3/4 cup of cereal? The average cereal bowl holds about 3 cups, so chances are excellent that you're really getting as many as 5 teaspoons of sugar for breakfast. Healthy, huh? There is no middle way for Americans: It is victory or holocaust”.  It is, however, impossible for anyone to be consistently hypocritical, and it happens eventually that neoconservatives recklessly open their thoughts to the public. This is what happened to Philip Zelikow, Councelor to Condoleezza Rice and Executive Director of the Commission on September 11, when, speaking about the Iraqi threat during a conference at the University of Virginia September 10, 2002, he let slip: “Why would Iraq attack America or use nuclear weapons against us? I’ll tell you what I think the real threat is and actually has been since 1990: it’s the threat against Israel. And this is the threat that dare not speak its name, because the Europeans don’t care deeply about that threat, I will tell you frankly. And the American government doesn’t want to lean too hard on it rhetorically, because it is not a popular sell”. That’s really it in a

nutshell: the United States must be led to make war with the enemies of Israel, and in order to do that, Americans must be convinced that Israel’s enemies are America’s enemies.

In addition, it is necessary that the Americans believe that these enemies hate their country for what it claims to represent (i.e. democracy, freedom, etc.), not because of its support for Israel. The signatories of the PNAC letter to President Bush on April 3rd, 2002 (including William Kristol, Richard Perle, Daniel Pipes, Norman Podhoretz, Robert Kagan, and James Woolsey) go as far as claiming that the Arab world hates Israel because it is a friend of the United States, rather than the reverse:

“No one should doubt that the United States and Israel share a common enemy. We are both targets of what you have correctly called an “Axis of Evil.” Israel is targeted in part because it is our friend, and in part because it is an island of liberal, democratic principles — American principles — in a sea of tyranny, intolerance, and hatred”. It is a well- known fact that America had no enemies in the Middle East before its covenant with Israel in the late 60s. On September 21st, 2001, the New York Post published an editorial by Netanyahu propagating the same historical falsification: “Today we are all Americans. […] For the bin Laden’s of the world, Israel is merely a sideshow. America is the target”.

Three days later The New Republic responded with a headline on behalf of the Americans: “We are all Israelis now”. The post-9/11 propaganda has created a relationship fused by emotion. Wrongly, Americans have understood September 11th as an expression of hatred towards them from the Arab world and have thus experienced immediate sympathy for Israel, an emotional link neoconservatives exploit without limit; Paul Wolfowitz declared April 11th, 2002: “Since September 11th, we Americans have one thing more in common with Israelis. On that day America was attacked by suicide bombers. At that moment every American understood what it was like to live in Jerusalem, or Netanya or Haifa. Nine state legislators from the Mexican State of Sonora traveled to Tucson to complain about Arizona 's new employer crackdown on illegals from Mexico . It seems that many Mexican illegals are returning to their hometowns and the officials in the Sonora state government are ticked off.

A delegation of nine state legislators from Sonora was in Tucson on Tuesday to state that Arizona 's new 'Employer Sanctions Law' will have a devastating effect on the Mexican state. At a news conference, the legislators said that Sonora, - Arizona's southern neighbor - made up of mostly small towns - can not handle the demand for housing, jobs and schools that it will face as Mexican workers return to their hometowns from the USA without jobs or money.

The Arizona law, which took effect Jan. 1, punishes Arizona employers who knowingly hire individuals without valid legal documents to work in the United States. Penalties include suspension of, or loss of, their business license. The Mexican legislators are angry because their own citizens are returning to their hometowns, placing a burden on THEIR state government.

'How can Arizona pass a law like this?' asked Mexican Rep Leticia Amparano-Gamez, who represents Nogales. 'There is not one person living in Sonora who does not have a friend or relative working in Arizona,' she said, speaking in Spanish. 'Mexico is not prepared for this, for the tremendous problems it will face as more and more Mexicans working in Arizona and who were sending money to their families return to their hometowns in Sonora without jobs,' she said 'We are one family, socially and economically,' she said of the people of Sonora and Arizona.

Wrong! The United States is a sovereign nation, not a subsidiary of Mexico, and its taxpayers are not responsible for the welfare of Mexico's citizens. It's time for the Mexican government, and its citizens, to stop feeding parasitically off the United States and to start taking care of its/their own needs.

Too bad that other states within the USA don't pass a law just like that passed by Arizona. Maybe that's the answer, since our own Congress will do nothing!

Law Enforcement Demands Smartphone ‘Kill Switch’

Police and prosecutors from across the country told smartphone manufacturers on Thursday that they must take steps to solve the “epidemic “of thefts involving mobile devices – and they need to do it right away.

A coalition of law enforcement officials, political leaders and consumer groups, called the Secure Our Smartphones (S.O.S) Initiative, wants a “kill switch” installed on all new smartphones that would make them useless anywhere in the world if they are reported stolen.

They want all smartphones equipped with a kill switch by early next year and they don’t want customers to foot the bill for this security technology.
“The industry has a moral and social obligation to fix this problem,” said San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon.
The S.O.S. Initiative is spearheaded by Gascon and New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. The two prosecutors hosted a “Smartphone Summit” in New York City on Thursday with the major mobile device manufacturers: Apple, Google/Motorola, Microsoft and Samsung.
The coalition made it clear is it demanding action and will not back down until the problem is solved.
The theft of mobile devices – smartphones and tablets – is now called “the fastest-growing street crime” in America. People across the country have been stabbed and mugged at gunpoint for their electronic devices, which are easy to resell. A stolen iPhone can fetch $300 or more on the black market.
The numbers are staggering:

• 1.6 million Americans had a handheld device stolen last year.
• One in every three robberies nationwide involves a stolen cell phone.
• Approximately half of all robberies in San Francisco involved a mobile communications device.
• In New York City, cell phone robberies increased 40 percent in the past year. In 2012, a 26-year old chef at the Museum of Modern Art was killed for his iPhone. Police there now use the term “apple-picking” to refer to the theft of iPhones and other mobile products, like iPads.

At the closed-door summit, Apple and Samsung outlined the improved security software they are developing to tackle the problem. Apple’s new i OS 7 operating system will include an “activation lock” when it’s released this fall.
While acknowledging that Apple and Samsung have taken steps in the right direction, S.O.S. wants a hardware solution that cannot be circumvented by hackers.
A.G. Schneiderman told NBC News he felt the meeting was positive and will result in a way to dry up the market for stolen mobile devices.
“The manufacturers conceded that a hardware-based kill switch was technologically feasible,” he said. “Once they conceded that, there’s really no reason not to immediately start working on installing that on all of their hardware.”
The companies said they were worried this technology would eliminate consumer choice, Schneiderman told me. But he doesn’t see it that way, since it’s the owner of the device who decides whether to have the kill switch activated. He compared it to cancelling a credit card.
“If someone hits me and takes my smartphone, I’m not interested in trying to track them and hope I get my phone back,” Schneiderman said. I want to kill that phone.”
How a kill switch would work
The technology, as envisioned by S.O.S., would make stolen devices permanently inoperable on any network, anywhere in the world, if they are reported stolen. It would disable the device even if it’s turned off, the SIM card is removed or the phone is modified to avoid detection.
The thinking is: block the ability to reactivate the mobile device, the ability to resell it would disappear and the incentive to steal it would be eliminated.

Many smartphones can now be disabled if they are lost or stolen. More than a year ago, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the CTIA – The Wireless Association created a database to prevent the use of stolen digital devices.

Police chiefs across the country are happy this was done, but they say it has not solved the problem.
In a recent letter to the FCC, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramey wrote, “Many smartphones that are ‘disabled’ still have the capacity to access WiFi networks or may be operable with carriers not in the database.” That’s why police chiefs across the country support kill-switch technology.

Editor’s note: They mentioned “nukes”, and it reminded me of an idea that occurred to me last night. I don’t believe the Galactics are permitting the detonation of ANY nuclear weapons, yet there was clearly a mushroom cloud visible above the West, Texas fertilizer plant. I was wondering if they used scalar weapons to detonate the factory, and a holographic image for the cloud… call me a conspiracy theorist.

Guess Who Tops the Chart of Countries Making Requests for User Data

Hey! Canada’s not even on the list!  Woo-hoo!
Some tech companies strive for transparency when it comes to letting users know how often their country’s government makes requests for their data. But such reports only gives users a look at how much the government wants/gets from just that one company.
Thanks to Reuters, you can now see the top 10 countries requesting user data from some of the largest tech companies all in one place.
Using data from Google, Microsoft, Skype and Twitter, Reuters created a chart showing the number of requests made by the governments of each company in various countries.
At more than 30,000 reported requests from the government received in 2012, the United States tops the list, showing twice as many requests than the United Kingdom at number two.

The website io9 labeled it “the scariest chart you’ll see all week.”

Perhaps some news released by Bloomberg yesterday gives a clue what happens when Reuters trading platform is unleashed on financial markets, for we seem to have yet another global manipulation scandal on our hands, possibly even more significant than LIBOR. Bloomberg reported yesterday that five whistleblowers who have been working as foreign exchange traders have stated that the $5 trillion foreign exchange market is rigged. They allege that the world's biggest banks have been systematically manipulating the foreign exchange rates used to set the value of trillions of dollars of investments and derivatives.
