HSBC files show how Swiss bank helped clients dodge taxes and hide millions

HSBC files show how Swiss bank helped clients dodge taxes and hide millions

Data in massive cache of leaked secret bank account files lift lid on questionable practices at subsidiary of one of world’s biggest financial institutions
HSBC files: how secret Swiss account data detailing misconduct came to light
HSBC’s Swiss banking arm helped wealthy customers dodge taxes and conceal millions of dollars of assets, doling out bundles of untraceable cash and advising clients on how to circumvent domestic tax authorities, according to a huge cache of leaked secret bank account files.
The files – obtained through an international collaboration of news outlets, including the Guardian, the French daily Le Monde, BBC Panorama and the Washington-based International Consortium of Investigative Journalists – reveal that HSBC’s Swiss private bank:
Routinely allowed clients to withdraw bricks of cash, often in foreign currencies of little use in Switzerland.
Aggressively marketed schemes likely to enable wealthy clients to avoid European taxes.
Colluded with some clients to conceal undeclared “black” accounts from their domestic tax authorities.
Provided accounts to international criminals, corrupt businessmen and other high-risk individuals.
The HSBC files, which cover the period 2005-2007, amount to the biggest banking leak in history, shedding light on some 30,000 accounts holding almost $120bn (£78bn) of assets.
The revelations will amplify calls for crackdowns on offshore tax havens and stoke political arguments in the US, Britain and elsewhere in Europe where exchequers are seen to be fighting a losing battle against fleet-footed and wealthy individuals in the globalised world.
Approached by the Guardian, HSBC, the world’s second largest bank, has now admitted wrongdoing by its Swiss subsidiary. “We acknowledge and are accountable for past compliance and control failures,” the bank said in a statement. The Swiss arm, the statement said, had not been fully integrated into HSBC after its purchase in 1999, allowing “significantly lower” standards of compliance and due diligence to persist.
That response raises serious questions about oversight of the Swiss operation by the then senior executives of its parent company, HSBC Group, headquartered in London. It has now acknowledged that it was not until 2011 that action was taken to bring the Swiss bank into line. “HSBC was run in a more federated way than it is today and decisions were frequently taken at a country level,” the bank said.
HSBC was headed during the period covered in the files by Stephen Green – now Lord Green – who served as the global bank’s chief executive, then group chairman until 2010 when he left to become a trade minister in the House of Lords for David Cameron’s new government. He declined to comment when approached by the Guardian.
Although tax authorities around the world have had confidential access to the leaked files since 2010, the true nature of the Swiss bank’s misconduct has never been made public until now. Hollywood stars, shopkeepers, royalty and clothing merchants feature in the files along with the heirs to some of Europe’s biggest fortunes.
In one memo, an HSBC manager is recorded discussing how a London-based financier whom the bank codenamed “Painter”, and his partner, could cheat on Italian tax. “The risk for the couple is, of course, that when they return to Italy the UK tax authorities will pass on information on them to the Italian tax authorities. My own view on this was that … there clearly was a risk.”
According to the files, HSBC’s Swiss bankers were also prepared to help Emmanuel Shallop, who was subsequently convicted of dealing in “blood diamonds”, the illegal trade that fuelled war in Africa.
One memo records: “We have opened a company account for him based in Dubai … The client is currently being very careful because he is under pressure from the Belgian tax authorities who are investigating his activities in the field of diamond tax evasion.”
The records indicate HSBC managers were untroubled that a customer collecting cash bundles of kroner might be breaking Danish law. HSBC staff were instructed: “All contacts through one of her 3 daughters living in London. Account holder living in Denmark, i.e. critical as it is a criminal act having an account abroad non declared.”
HSBC’s Swiss bankers routinely handed over large sums of cash to visiting clients, asking few questions, the files show. The bank said it had since tightened its controls. “The amended terms and conditions allowed the private bank to refuse a cash withdrawal request, and placed strict controls on withdrawals over $10,000 [£6,600],” its statement said.
One example of the old system detailed in the files involves Richard Caring, a British tycoon and owner of London’s celebrity-packed Ivy restaurant, who on one day in 2005 removed 5m Swiss francs (£2.25m) in cash. When the Guardian asked him why, he declined to explain. His lawyer said it was a private matter and involved no impropriety. Caring’s UK tax status allowed him legally to keep his accounts secret from the tax authorities.
The files show how HSBC in Switzerland keenly marketed tax avoidance strategies to its wealthy clients. The bank proactively contacted clients in 2005 to suggest ways to avoid a new tax levied on the Swiss savings accounts of EU citizens, a measure brought in through a treaty between Switzerland and the EU to tackle secret offshore accounts.
The documents also show HSBC’s Swiss subsidiary providing banking services to relatives of dictators, people implicated in African corruption scandals, arms industry figures and others. Swiss banking rules have since 1998 required high levels of diligence on the accounts of politically connected figures, but the documents suggest that at the time HSBC happily provided banking services to such controversial individuals.
The Guardian’s evidence of a pattern of misconduct at HSBC in Switzerland is supported by the outcome of recent court cases in the US and Europe. The bank was named in the US as a co-conspirator for handing over “bricks” of $100,000 a time to American surgeon Andrew Silva in Geneva, so that he could illegally post cash back to the US.
Another US client, Sanjay Sethi, pleaded guilty in 2013 to cheating the US tax authorities. He was one of a group of convicted HSBC clients. The prosecution said an HSBC banker promised “the undeclared account would allow [his] assets to grow tax-free, and bank secrecy laws in Switzerland would allow Sethi to conceal the existence of the account”.
In France, an HSBC manager, Nessim el-Maleh, was able to run a cash pipeline in which plastic bags full of currency from the sale of marijuana to immigrants in the Paris suburbs were collected. The cash was then taken round to HSBC’s respectable clients in the French capital. Bank accounts back in Switzerland were manipulated to reimburse the drug dealers.
HSBC is already facing criminal investigations and charges in France, Belgium, the US and Argentina as a result of the leak of the files, but no legal action has been taken against it in Britain.
Former tax inspector Richard Brooks tells BBC Panorama in a programme to be aired on Monday night: “I think they were a tax avoidance and tax evasion service. I think that’s what they were offering.
“There are very few reasons to have an offshore bank account, apart from just saving tax. There are some people who can use an ... account to avoid tax legally. For others it’s just a way to keep money secret.”
The Labour party said: “Tax avoidance and evasion harms every taxpayer in Britain, and undermines public services like the NHS. What is truly shocking is that HMRC were made fully aware of these practices back in 2010 but since then very little has been done.”

Old people auctioned off to care homes on the internet: Anger over 'cattle markets for grannies' as councils accept lowest bids to save cash

  • At least a dozen local authorities are listing vulnerable people's details
  • Ages and care needs including medication sent to up to 100 care firms
  • They pick which people to bid for - and cheapest offer nearly always wins
  • Expert Ros Altmann: 'eBay-style' system 'awful' and 'just uncivilised'
  • Health group leader: 'It's an absolute disgrace - it's like a cattle market'

The elderly and disabled are being ‘put up for auction’ by local councils on ‘eBay-style’ websites, with care firms then bidding to offer them a bed.
At least a dozen local authorities are listing vulnerable people’s details – including their age and what care and medication they need – before inviting bids from care homes in the area.
The bidding is sometimes open for only a few hours, at other times it can last for two or three days. The cheapest offer often wins.

Critics last night said the system was akin to ‘auctioning your granny’ and a ‘cattle market’, saying sensitive decisions about an elderly resident’s final years are being made by a computer programme that is only interested in costs.
It also means the patient or their family often does not see the care home, and that those running the home do not see the patient before they arrive.

One council has boasted of reducing care costs by almost a fifth using the system.
The auction-style process allows councils to circulate anonymised details of individuals to a large number of suppliers who then bid in an online auction for the contract.
As many as 100 providers can bid before the software produces a shortlist of the most favourable bids. Shortlisted bidders are then told where they are ranked in the process.

If they are in second position, they can adjust their bid – either by lowering the price or offering extra care services – so that they can move up to first.
Councils say quality is the first consideration, but figures obtained under a Freedom of Information request show 92 per cent of care packages commissioned on the system over a six-month period were awarded to the bidder with the lowest price, BBC 5 Live revealed.
Government adviser Ros Altmann: 'These eBay-style sites highlight the funding crisis for care'

Ros Altmann, a Government adviser and independent expert on care for the elderly, said: ‘These eBay-style sites highlight the funding crisis for elderly care. It is awful. The idea of bidding for a person is just uncivilised. These are not parcels, they are people.’
Janet Morrison, chief executive of the charity Independent Age, said: ‘Do we really want to treat older people as a “product” to be bought and sold this way? We are concerned that older people’s needs will lose out to price as the main reason for selecting a home.’
At least 12 councils use the auction-style systems. They include Kent County Council, Devon County Council, Southend Borough Council and Birmingham City Council. Dozens more are expected to follow suit.
Care companies bidding to offer a place have to state what services they can provide and at what cost before a computer system decides which company is the winner of the ‘contract’. Councils say the winning home is not forced upon patients, and that it is not always the cheapest bid that wins, with quality of care being the main consideration.
Birmingham has been using an online auction system since 2012 and says it has reduced its spending on care by almost a fifth.
It uses a software called SProc.Net, which has been devised by Matrix SCM, a company based in Milton Keynes which last year said it was in talks with 30 other councils.
Radio 5 Live also found that in some cases in Birmingham elderly people were being sent to homes which won the online auction despite being ‘zero-rated’ by the council on its own 0-100 scale of care quality – where scores under 60 are ‘poor’.
Les Latchman, chairman of the Birmingham Care Consortium, which represents care homes in Birmingham and commissioned the FOI request, said the system was forcing providers to offer lower and lower prices to secure the contract.

‘This reverse tendering is something that compromises quality and undermines ethical practice,’ he said. ‘If you are going to keep lowering the price, something has got to give.’
Mike Gimson, chairman of Moundsley Healthcare Group, said: ‘It’s an absolute disgrace what is going on in Birmingham. It is more like Hereford cattle market than it is a caring service for the elderly.’
A Birmingham council spokesman said: ‘The well-being of all our service users is paramount and we only award care packages to providers who are able to demonstrate that they can meet the needs of individuals.’
Another critic of the system is Emma Knight, whose brother James, 46, has learning difficulties and had lived in the same care home in Exeter for 28 years. When it closed, Devon County Council circulated his details by emails to care homes which were then invited to bid to offer him a place.
The details on the email included information about his ‘mood and well-being’ and medication. His family say other information which could easily identify him was also included.
Miss Knight, 44, of Ottery St Mary, said: ‘We had no idea his details were being shared. This sort of tendering should be stopped.’

Furious McDonald’s Employee Fired For Going Nuts, Trashing Restaurant: Epic Meltdown In Front Of Customers Goes Viral [Video]

Too many Big Mac's.... Whole new definition to:"You deserve a break today"

**Warning: Video contains explicit language that may be offensive to some viewers.**
A Minnesota McDonald’s employee recently went ballistic while at work. Apparently, the employee was fed up with the working environment and conditions, reports Mail Online. So, he had an epic meltdown as customers watched. Of course, someone pulled out a cell phone and began filming the employee’s jaw-dropping tantrum.
However, that wasn’t all the person caught on tape. The jaw-dropping tantrum also led to the McDonald’s employee’s unceremonious departure, because of course, he was fired. The two-minute video shows the obviously frustrated now ex-McDonald’s employee ranting and shouting expletives about the hours he’d worked and how he still hadn’t received his check yet.
“You treat me like s***, I get treated like s***!” he ranted. “B**** give me my f****** pay! ‘I was nice to you!”
But, that’s not all! The footage also shows him vandalizing the restaurant. He knocked over shelves of condiments, stacks of straws, paper bags, napkins and other items, leaving a huge mess all over the floor. The kitchen area was left in a disarray by the time he finished throwing trays, drinks and food everywhere. The floor was covered with spilled liquid, wet paper and ketchup.
Needless to say, all of the customers who witnessed the shocking incident were quite bemused. However, he still wasn’t done. The incident escalated when the manager walked out to confront him. Of course, the manager fired him on the spot and told him he needed to leave the premises.
“You need to leave. Please. Just leave,” the manager said.
But, the furious former McDonald’s employee still wasn’t done ranting. The manager’s request definitely made things worse, because then he could be seen throwing what appears to be straws in the manager’s face. He continued ranting and spewing expletives at the manager before making his grand exit. The footage was uploaded to YouTube on Sunday, Feb. 8 and is now circulating on social media. While many found the footage comical, others argued he should actually face charges for trashing the restaurant.
Do you think the McDonald’s employee should face charges for his epic meltdown? Share your thoughts.

Alabama: Gay Marriage Licenses Issued Despite Chief Justice Roy Moore’s Order To Stop

Alabama Gay Marriage Licenses
Alabama has become the next state to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples despite an attempt by Alabama’s Chief Justice Roy Moore to block the movement by issuing an order to refuse same-sex couples licenses.
According to the Washington Post, Chief Justice Roy Moore issued a letter late Sunday that advised probate judges to follow state law and deny marriage licenses to gay couples even though a federal judge ruled that the state’s ban on same-sex marriages was unconstitutional.
ABC News stated that in January, U.S. District Judge Callie Granade determined that Alabama’s statutory and constitutional bans on gay marriage were unconstitutional.
“She put her order on hold until Monday to let the state prepare for the change. The state attorney general has requested that the hold be extended, but the U.S. Supreme Court refused to do so, paving the way for the marriages to begin,” ABC News reported.
Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling, Moore’s letter to probate judges states that anyone who violates his order would face “a reprimand by the governor.”
“Effective immediately, no probate judge of the state of Alabama nor any agent or employee of any Alabama Probate Judge shall issue or recognize a marriage license that is inconsistent with a constitutional amendment and a state law banning same-sex unions,” Moore wrote according to the Washington Post.
While many probate judges have already said they will be issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, there are a few who are refusing. According to a previous report by the Inquisitr, at least two counties in Alabama are refusing to issue gay marriage licenses.
Covington County Probate Judge Ben Bowden stated that he will not be issuing any same-sex marriage licenses, though he says his decision was based upon existing law, not personal/religious beliefs.
“I have concluded that I have a duty to uphold Alabama law until a court with authority over me directs me otherwise,” Bowden wrote. “The United States Supreme Court has agreed to hear and rule on a very similar case from another state this summer. I look forward to getting a definitive answer as soon as possible.”
While there may be some uncertainty surrounding Alabama issuing gay marriage licenses, that hasn’t stopped same-sex couples from lining up for them.
“It’s about time,” said Shante Wolfe, 21. She and Tori Sisson of Tuskegee had camped out in a blue and white tent and became the first in the county given a license according to ABC News.
As of Monday, Alabama has become the 37 state to issue gay marriage licenses and to allow same-sex couples to wed.

A Bicyclist In Scotland Caught A Driver With Headphones On, Cell Phone In Hand, And Open Laptop Beside Him

Distracted driving, indeed!
A cyclist in Aberdeen, Scotland, captured a driver during the busy morning commute on Aberdeen’s crowded streets, with earphones in his ears, a cell phone in his hand, and an open laptop computer beside him, Mashable is reporting.
The video was captured by a self-described vigilante who calls himself Aberdeen Cycle Cam. On his YouTube channel, he states that his goal is to capture video footage of the distracted and otherwise bad drivers of Aberdeen, in order to publicly shame them.
“Don’t want to be a star in my videos? Don’t endanger others. Drive properly, don’t be impatient and don’t be rude. Simple!”
In the video, you can see Mr. Aberdeen Cycle Cam roll up to the distracted driver and try to confront him. The driver does not appear interested in discussing his misdeeds with the cyclist, and instead drives off.
“This bloke is driving a Land Rover in town, looking at a mobile phone, laptop and wearing headphones on both ears. Not only is he not paying any attention to the road, I suspect he’s not even on this planet. I was truly surprised when I saw the laptop with the screen on and the headphones on both ears. I was ‘just’ expecting him to be on his mobile phone, as I see dozens of times everyday.”
Don’t think that the distracted Scot is going to get off scot-free. Thanks to the video, Aberdeen police are, according to the Aberdeen Press and Journal, “following a positive line of inquiry.” We’re assuming that’s British-speak for “we’re investigating.”

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Release Details Revealed

9968570634_f210753157_h
Samsung Galaxy Note 4, along with other smartphones by Samsung (and many other developers, for that matter), is a little slow on the uptake when it comes to receiving an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop, released back in November. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was last stated to be receiving the update “soon” more than two weeks ago, as reported by the Inquisitr.
“Samsung has admitted that it’s been a bit slow to roll out the new Android 5.0 Lollipop OS to all of its devices. The reason for the slow update is that TouchWiz needed a makeover to work compatibly with the new OS.”
One of the possible reasons for a delay is that Samsung is willing to omit the 5.0 update entirely and jump directly to 5.1, because it sports a number of bug fixes that greatly improve user experience – and as the update has already been delayed, it seems logical to spend a little more time and not to go for half-measures.
It is still unknown when the update is going to go live. However, GottaBeMobile refers to French carrier SFR, according to which it is going to happen before the end of February.
“Specifically, the carrier says that it will push the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update live in late February though it fails to confirm a specific date. This falls in line with its current Android update timeline that puts both the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop updates within the confines of this month.”
Galaxy Note 4 and S5 are not the only Samsung devices that are going to get Lollipop in the near future: Sprint currently works on Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update. It is worth mentioning that the update in question is 5.0, not 5.1 – the new version will be probably adapted a little later, when the carrier is done with updating newer and more popular devices.
Samsung is also supposed to release Lollipop updates for other devices: Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Alpha, and Galaxy S5 mini – but so far there is no information on the subject.
Samsung tends to release their updates in stages in order to single out all possible bugs before releasing the update to the rest of the world – currently Samsung uses Russia as its test market. It seems that testing is proceeding rather successfully, and it’s believed Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and S5 will get Lollipop before the end of the month.

Children Describe Satanic Ritual Abuse and Sacrifice (video)

A comment on the Vigilant Citizen blog stated that 'Papa' is their father Ricky Dearman. He's a British Actor. Hope this helps..

Feb 8th, 2015

A video posted on YouTube features two young children describing the horrifying details of the Satanic Ritual Abuse and child sacrifice they witnessed first hand.

In a deeply disturbing video posted online, a 8-year old boy and his 9-year old sister describe the horrors they were forced to endure at the hands of their British father who is the leader of a Sexual Ritual Abuse cult in North London. Along with horrific gruesome details, the kids actually point out specific people and organizations who collaborate with the Satanic ring. Here it is.

A complete collection of private videos can also be found here.
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0Byzy22cCtwpdOEM2bG00eXE2eTg&usp=sharing

As usual, some people claimed that the videos are “fake” and that the kids were “coached”. It doesn’t take an expert to notice that the kids exhibit telltale signs of honesty (notice the girl’s face of true horror at 2:18 when the boy talks about “papa”).

More importantly, important facts are surfacing about the children’s toxic environment. This case is the result of an 8-year old boy and his 9-year old sister confessing at long last the abuse they suffered by their British father who is the leader of a Sexual Ritual Abuse cult in North London.

The Russian mother had a history of domestic violence with him that included 5 Police call-outs and 3 reports. She had long noticed signs of unhappiness, sickness and stress in her children, but only when on holiday in August with them she learned about most harrowing details as the reason. However, six days after reporting the crimes to Barnet Police on 05 September 2014, the children were taken into ‘protective custody’ and subsequently to two different foster carers.

Medical examinations initiated by the Police confirmed scarring in the rectum area of both children. The hearing of the boy is impaired due to the father’s hitting and excessive shouting. Two weeks later, the Police told her that the children retracted the allegations and that the investigation was closed. The explanation was that the children made their story up from the film “The Mask of Zorro”.

The entire British child care system is gravely compromised and reflects the mind state of the occult elite around the world. In my article on the 2012 London Olympics Ceremonies, I explained how an entire portion of the ceremonies symbolically “celebrated” the abuse of children by elite-run organizations.

During the portion celebrating the National Health Service (NHS) and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), we saw terrified children in hospital beds while the theme of The Exorcist played in the background. A young girl lifted in the air by a gigantic Lord Voldemort. The celebration ended with a creepy giant baby.

Does the baby’s sectioned forehead represent the splitting of the personality due to abuse? In short, not only does this abuse take place at the highest levels of society and remains unpunished – it is actually celebrated. It is time to expose this cancerous culture to the world.

A complete collection of private videos can also be found here.
