Americans back border agents, demand return of U.S. Marine in Mexican jail

Mass rallies scheduled across the country this weekend in support of non-militarized police, veterans and Border Patrol agents have spread to 116 communities, organizers say.
The rallies begin Friday and Saturday in cities across the nation.
They were spawned by concerns that Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson is being unfairly portrayed as a cold-blooded killer in the national media, that U.S. Marine Andrew Tahmooressi is being held in a Mexican jail because he accidentally crossed the border with legal American guns, and that U.S. Border Patrol agents have come under fire from drug cartels while trying to police the southern border.

Overpasses for America and Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, or ALIPAC, are leading a broad coalition of groups participating in the rallies, which they see as a “warm-up” for even larger protests scheduled for Oct. 24-25 against illegal immigration.
“This coalition of organizations we’re putting together will provide the infrastructure for what will be millions of enraged Americans if Obama unilaterally declares amnesty, which he is telegraphing,” said William Gheen, president of ALIPAC.
If Obama follows through with threats to declare amnesty for a large percentage of the roughly 25 million to 35 million illegals now in the country, Gheen said his organization is prepared to “take the next step,” beyond holding protest signs on highway overpasses.
“We may have to escalate our peaceful activism beyond overpasses and begin doing large scale sit-ins of whatever processing facilities they try to set up for the illegals,” Gheen said. “What Obama is doing and telegraphing he is going to do is a complete violation of our existing laws, our Constitution and our republic.”
James Neighbors, founder of Overpasses for America, said he senses that grassroots activism is growing in America.
“You get the train moving and people jump on, so whatever it takes,” he said. “We jumped on the border protests July 18-19 and that was the first time multiple groups had come together, and that was sort of our alpha test. We had some bumps and potholes along the way, but we ended up pulling it off with over 320 groups.”
Neighbors continued, “We understand Obama is the poster child for the problem but he is not the problem. He’s just the front man for the whole thing. You can almost look at Obama as the crowning achievement of the corruption going on in D.C. right now. He’s easily the most corrupt president we’ve ever had, but we like to bring attention to all of the problems that are a result of that agenda, and some of those we’ll be addressing this weekend.”
These include what Neighbors calls the “misperception” that all police are out to kill unarmed black teens.
Gheen and Neighbors are careful not to call this weekend’s event “protests,” but rather “rallies.”
“It’s the misperception of our police forces by the liberal media and the fact that we have a Marine locked up in Mexico and the president hasn’t even talked about it,” Neighbors said. “It doesn’t make any sense, and then … the border killing [of] two of our border agents. It’s all part of a much larger problem with our federal government that’s become out of control.”
Neighbors, who lives in Norman, Oklahoma, started Overpasses for America in June 2013 to rally support for the impeachment of President Obama. But the group has since broadened its scope.
“I honestly think what we’re seeing now is an example of neo-feudalism. If you look at the middle ages, it was that 1 percent of elites that seized control of everything. It’s a common behavior throughout history, and I think we’re just seeing another example of it in the 21st century,” Neighbors said. “If you look at it, we have corporate lobbyists that go to Congress, and they go to every level of government, they lobby, they donate to campaigns and they get what they want. We’re now $18 trillion in debt. And at some point, we will have to repay that. If the U.S. government goes bankrupt, what will the U.S. government do if corporations say, ‘OK, we’ll pay off your debt, but guess what, we want provision?’”
Few government programs have fulfilled their intended purpose, he said, and most create a culture of dependency.
“The vast majority of them have just simply failed. They’re ineffective. They’re over cost, and yet the (the government) tries to get involved in every aspect of our lives. It’s almost as if the United States doesn’t matter to them,” he said. “We’ve got 35 million illegal aliens in our country now. They tout 11 million but that’s a 10-year-old number.”
Neighbors believes that the collapsing of the U.S.-Mexico border is a purposeful act meant to usher in the North American Union, unifying the U.S., Mexico and Canada and modeled after the European Union across the Atlantic.
“You have to wonder if that’s their agenda. I can’t remember hearing anything about it in the mainstream media, not a peep,” he said. “The mainstream media are now controlled by six mega corporations, and because of that we no longer have real and fair journalistic reporting. That’s why this doesn’t get talked about. If it weren’t for the alternative media, thanks to the Internet, journalism would be dead.”
Neighbors believes the Obama administration has declared war on hard-working middle-class Americans, tearing away at jobs by fostering open borders and disastrous trade agreements.
“With Obama, I don’t know if he’s weak or just weakening us,” Neighbors said. “We need a president who understands what this country is about, what our culture is.”
Neighbors said his group is strongest in Texas, California, Illinois and Florida. He believes there’s a reason for that.
“They are always the benchmark for everybody else,” he said. “I think it’s because they’re exposed to a little more of the liberal agenda. They’re seeing with their own eyes what destruction the liberal agenda brings. They see firsthand what the rest of us have coming and are kind of out to warn us. But they have always been, Illinois especially.”
As of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Texas already had 25 communities signed up to participate in the rallies this weekend.
Gheen said all racially inclusive groups are invited to join the growing coalition.
“We are looking for more peaceful and racially inclusive organizations willing to unify with all Americans in opposition to illegal immigration, the insults of Rep. Luis Gutierrez, against immigration reform amnesty, and the Obama-inspired illegal immigrant surge on our borders,” he said.
