We in the Linux community have been telling Windows users for many years now.....STOP DRINKING THE WINDOWS KOOL-AID!!!
Linux is free and it's safe. Most distributions will even run Windows programs. Go Here, pick your disrto, get it, install it and stop worrying. http://distrowatch.com/
