Establishing the BRICS Bank is a momentous event........
The July 2014 BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) Summit was a momentous event, more important than the World Cup that also took place in Brazil. The BRICS sealed the deal towards the creation of the BRICS development bank and a US$ 100 billion reserve fund, labelled a "Contingency Reserve Arrangement" that promises to help developing nations avoid "short-term liquidity pressures, promote further BRICS cooperation, strengthen the global financial safety net and complement existing international arrangements." The BRICS bank is expected to strengthen economic and financial relations and cooperation between the members of the BRICS group, promote mutual investments in addition to providing development funding in the BRICS group and in developing countries, with a likely focus on the African region. The BRICS bank will provide loans, guarantees, long-term credits and make equity investments. A major focus will be on infrastructure, aiming to address a yawning gap in infrastructure finance for the emerging economies. To illustrate, the ADB estimates that Asia will need some US$ 800bn a year of infrastructure investment between now and 2020 -- but, it lends only US$ 10bn a year for infrastructure. The MENA region countries face a similar infrastructure financing gap of some US$ 60bn per year, not to mention over US$1 trillion for reconstruction following wars and violence. Ironically the BRICS bank mission is similar to the original mission of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development alias the World Bank, but which went awry. As founders, the BRICS agreed at the Summit that the capital for the bank would be split equally among the five nations, giving equal voting power. The bank will have its headquarters in Shanghai, and the first president for the bank will come from India, while the board will mainly come from Brazil.
Shifting 'soft power' to the BRICS and emerging economies
The establishment of the BRICS bank marks the delayed shift of 'soft power' from the 'West', from the US and Europe to Asia and to emerging economies, confirming the shift in economic and financial weight. The centre of global economic and financial geography has been progressively shifting "East" for the past three decades, with the epicentre now lying East of Mumbai. Measured at PPP rates, China will have surpassed the US by 2017 as the world's largest economy, while India has already surpassed Japan to become the world's third largest economy. This tectonic shift in economic fortunes and transformation of the global economy is already evident in changed patterns of production, trade, investment and capital markets: emerging markets already account for 48% of world trade, with Asia's share alone at 31.5%. In line with positive growth prospects and higher returns to investment, some 52% of global FDI flows into emerging markets, with 30% into Asia. Non-OECD economies now account for 65% of energy markets, with demand from China dominant.
But global institutions have yet to reflect the economic and financial power of the BRICS. The shift in soft power will unfurl in three main developments over the coming decade: a change in the governance of the international monetary and financial architecture, the growth of 'Renminbisation' and the emergence of local currency markets in emerging economies.
Changing governance of international monetary and financial architecture
Today, the BRICS account for about 25% of global GDP, 35% of total international reserves (with China at over US$4 trillion), 25% of total land area and around 42% of the world's population. However, despite their economic weight, the BRICS have a major power gap in global economic governance. Their representation, voting power, participation in management and staff in the Bretton Woods institutions (IMF, World Bank, WTO, and IFC) and others like the BIS, displays a major deficit of 'voice' and influence. The tectonic shift in world economic geography has not reflected itself in the governance and management, let alone the staff of IFIs. The BRICS and emerging countries do not set the agenda but they must bow to the diktats! Voting power at the IMF disproportionately favours the US 16.75%, Japan 6.23%, Germany, France and the UK votes add up to 14.39% compared to a total for the 11% for BRICS, of which China: 3.8%. Despite the BRICS endeavouring to increase their influence of global financial decision-making, the US and the Europeans have thwarted attempts at IFI reform. The IMF's voting reforms approved in 2010, ratified by more than three-quarters of the Fund's member governments are still missing ratification by the US. The new BRICS bank and international reserves facility are the first building block of a new international monetary and financial architecture with new institutions and greater 'voice' for the new economic and financial powers of the XXI century, with a focus on issues relevant to emerging economies. The next global agreement will be Shanghai I not Bretton Woods II.
Growing Renminbisation is the alternative to US$ hegemony
The second building block of the new international financial architecture is the creation of a 'Yuan Zone'. Currently, global trade and investment flows and payments are mainly intermediated and settled through the use of the US$ and the Euro. GCC oil sold to China is priced and settled in US$ through US$ regulated clearing banks, which increases transactions costs and involves exchange rate and payment risk. In addition, participants in the US$-based payment system have also been subject to fines and penalties arising from politically motivated US sanctions. China is today the world's biggest trading nation and its bilateral trade can be more efficiently conducted using Renminbi (RMB). China's policy is to increase the internationalisation of the Renminbi: 'Renminbisation'. To date, there have been three main channels of Renminbisation: the introduction of the RMB as the settlement currency for cross-border trade transactions, the provision of RMB swap lines between the People's Bank of China (PBoC) and other central banks and the creation of an RMB offshore market. China now has 24 currency swap arrangements worth some US$ 430bn including a RMB 35bn currency swap agreement with the UAE central bank. These swap facilities can provide liquidity to finance bilateral trade and investment flows and can form the basis of a multilateral RMB clearing system.
By 2015, the RMB will emerge as a global currency alongside the US$ and the Euro. The growing international use of the RMB will progressively create a 'Yuan Zone' where multilateral trade can be financed and settled in RMB. Similarly, given China's dominance of international trade, commodities, goods and services will be increasingly denominated in RMB. In particular, given China's dominance of GCC energy export markets, it is advantageous for both parties to price oil and gas and settle in RMB. Indeed, the GCC countries should shift to a currency basket including the RMB and build up RMB holdings as part of their international reserves, rather than maintain a hard peg to the US$ which implies a loss of monetary independence.
The growing international role of the RMB will be confirmed in 2015 by its entry into the IMF's Special Drawing Rights (SDR) basket. But for the RMB to become a truly international means of payment and asset currency and alternative to the US$ and the Euro, China needs to gradually move to capital account convertibility and removal of internal distortions, notably interest rate liberalization, greater exchange rate flexibility and the development of RMB money market instruments and debt capital markets, the "Redback Market".
Building Local Currency Debt Markets
The third building block then, is the development of local currency money and debt markets starting with China and India, given their potential size. Developing local currency debt and Sukuk markets brings multiple benefits: stable access to capital, diversification of monetary policy instruments, and the creation of a yield curve for pricing financial assets, while diminishing exchange rate and refinancing risk from financing through 'hard currency' debt. For China, Renminbisation necessitates the development of an onshore capital market complemented by domestic policy reforms leading to a changed financial structure, with lower dependence on bank financing. However, the speed of adjustment and the sequencing of financial sector reforms are also important. External account liberalisation should be preceded by domestic financial sector reforms and the removal of internal financial distortions. For the RMB to become part of international reserves requires broad, deep and liquid Redback financial markets. The unfolding of the Redback market will dominate international financial markets over the coming decade.
A New Multi-Polar Financial Architecture for a New World Order
A multi-polar world requires a new international monetary and financial architecture. The Great Financial Crisis and accompanying Great Recession are the final nails in the coffin of the post-WWII Bretton Woods world order, signaling the end of the American US Financial Empire. The BRICS development bank and contingency fund are the forerunners of a new multi-currency world that breaks US dollar hegemony and the domination of Fed monetary policy geared to the exigencies of US business cycles and economic crises. The US will lose its exorbitant privilege as the world's reserve currency as the Yuan Zone expands. This will help resolve the US twin fiscal and current account deficits by imposing fiscal discipline on the US. A multi-polar financial world with new international financial centres emerging in Mumbai and Shanghai will be a more stable world, less prone to financial crises or hostage to mal-regulated too-big-to-fail banks and financial institutions in the too-big-to-fail hubs of New York and London. For the BRICS and emerging economies a new dawn can arise with better access to finance both within and across countries, and less prone to disruptive capital flows and irrational exuberance.

It is becoming just a little too much of a daily occurrence but instead of a rail freight car crashing, today we see a massive explosion and fire erupt from an oil tanker crash in Detroit... As gas prices remain low, the shift from rail to road will likely increase the frequency of these scenes....
 
As WXYZ reports,
A massive tanker fire on eastbound I-94 in Dearborn has shut down both directions of the freeway between Addison and Michigan Avenue. The fire is raging on the Detroit - Dearborn border.
 
At least two vehicles, in addition to the tanker, are on fire. There is no word on injuries at this time. A number of people can be seen on the side of the road. Flames can also be seen coming from sewer system manholes.
 
One witness says they heard what sounded like an explosion.
 
The heavy black smoke can be seen for miles. Rob Morosi from the Michigan Department of Transportation says crews are re-routing traffic. Once the fire is out, Morosi says crews will assess any damage to the freeway, and expects that the freeway will be closed for an indefinite amount of time.

I am posting this concerning the GCR/RV and any other BS that is being dealt to ALL Americans. Most of you know my thoughts regarding our beloved America and what has been being done to Her by the International ‘big shots’.

I feel that, as long as we keep sitting by doing nothing, they (meaning the Int. boys operating out of D.C.) will just keep throwing us a bone to keep us quiet and to continue to string us along day to day.

I remember when I was about 15 or so that this son of a COP, who had this ‘tough guy’ image, hit me in the upper thigh real hard with his fist (for no reason) and how I literally had to crawl 6 city blocks home as I could not stand up. For the next week I had to use a set of crutches, and he taunted me for the next 2 months at school. You ask why he did this…..and I still have not figured that out except that this was just his nature.

Well, one day I had had it with him. He said some idiotic things and turned his back to catch up with his friends. …. I walked up behind him and said “Hey Harry!”…..When he turned around to face me, I kicked him in the shins like I was kicking a field goal….. WOW!! The idiot hit the ground and he was saying how he was going to ‘get me’……I walked up close to him and said “If you want to try that again, I will put you in the hospital!”…. The kick I gave him broke (shattered) his shin bones, and he wore a cast for about 2 months….

POINT…..The reason I am saying this is that he never bothered me again….. AND…… we, as Americans, need to do the same….. initiate get tough measures to get rid of the Int. boys if we are to survive individually and as a nation. Until we strike back and let them know that WE are not going to take this anymore they will continue or step up their actions against us like they appear to be doing right now….

It is time to put the bullies down….  If the Military won’t help, then we need to tell them to stand down and go home… they are no longer welcome on US soil – PERIOD.

    A video published online Thursday shows actor Robert Downey Jr. presenting a child with a gift he’s sure never to forget.
“Had the absolute privilege of presenting a brand spanking new 3D-printed bionic Iron Man arm to Alex, the most dapper 7-year-old I’ve ever met,” the “Iron Man” star wrote on Facebook.
Video of the exchange shows Alex Pring, who was born with a partially developed right arm, walk into a room to meet Downey Jr.
“Hey Alex, how are you? I have another bionics expert on hand so I thought I’d drop by,” the actor said. “Nice bow tie by the way.”
Downey Jr. then opened two large metal cases featuring bionic arms resembling those seen in the “Iron Man” movies.
“Each one looks the same,” Pring said.
“Actually, I think yours might be better than mine,” Downey Jr. replied. “What do you say we both try them on, do a progress report?”
As it turned out, Downey Jr.’s arm had a “technical glitch” while Pring’s worked flawlessly.
The two shared a iron fist bump before the actor thanked mechanical engineer Albert Manero for building the bionic limb.
Manero founded the volunteer group Limitless Solutions — an organization that creates 3D-printed bionic limbs for individuals and makes the designs free for others to use. The technology has allowed Manero to dramatically cut costs. Pring’s bionic arm, for instance, only used $300 in materials.

Hillary Clinton's defenders say she's sufficiently explained why she set up a do-it-yourself home email system when she was secretary of state, insist there's nothing to see here, and it's time to move on.


You know who disagrees?   The senior-most freedom-of-information official in the executive branch of the United States government for over a quarter-century, whose job it was to help four administrations — including the Clinton White House — interpret the Freedom of Information Act, offer advice, and testify before Congress on their behalf.  Daniel Metcalfe doesn't buy her explanation. In fact, he calls it laughable.
"What she did was contrary to both the letter and the spirit of the law," says Metcalfe, the founding director of the Justice Department's Office of Information and Privacy, which advised the rest of the administration on how to comply with the law. Metcalfe ran the office from 1981 to 2007. "There is no doubt that the scheme she established was a blatant circumvention of the Freedom of Information Act, atop the Federal Records Act."


Metcalfe says he doesn't have any partisan axe to grind. He's a registered Democrat, though steadfastly non-partisan. He says he was embarrassed to work for George W. Bush and his attorney general, and left government for American University, where he now teaches government information law and policy.

'You've got to be kidding me'

And he says what Clinton did was wrong. Here's how he would have reacted if he'd heard about a cabinet member in his day setting up a personal email system — and deciding what got deleted and what got preserved as a government record. "I would've said, 'You've gotta be kidding me," he said.
"You can't have the secretary of state do that; that's just a prescription for the circumvention of the FOIA. Plus, fundamentally, there's no way the people at the archives should permit that if you tell them over there."'


He said he knows from working under the Clintons that Hillary — secretary of state, senator, 2016 presidential hopeful and lawyer — understands the Freedom of Information Act. Clinton's defenders point out that there was nothing in the law explicitly forbidding what she did. Public records were to be preserved, but it didn't say personal emails were public records. Until a 2014 change to the law, it didn't say those personal-account emails had to be turned over.


Clinton told a news conference that she deleted about half of her 60,000 emails — personal messages about her daughter's wedding, mother's funeral, and yoga routines. (Oh yeah? And we are to believe her and fully unquestionably accept that they were just 'personal' family oriented emails when she deliberately HID them? When she is a KNOWN LIAR? )


She said there was also correspondence with her husband. Given that he ran a multibillion-dollar charitable foundation that received foreign donations while she represented the U.S. abroad, even their correspondence could be of interest to researchers, journalists and political opponents. (What 'charity' are they supporting - other than themselves and their criminal enterprises???)


Metcalfe examined a transcript of her press conference, provided by The Canadian Press, and he dissected it Wednesday, point by point, annotating it in 23 places where he called her statements "deceptive," "grossly misleading" and impossible to verify.  His overall conclusion from her public appearance: "Her suggestion that government employees can unilaterally determine which of their records are personal and which are official, even in the face of a FOIA request, is laughable."

Hillary Rodham Clinton, the former first 'lady', U.S. senator from New York and secretary of state, used a private email server for all of her emails when she was President Obama’s secretary of state from 2009 to 2013.


During that time, she enjoyed a security clearance identical to that of the president, the secretary of defense, the director of the CIA and others — it is the highest level of clearance the government makes available.


She had that classified clearance so that she could do her job, which involved knowing and working with military, diplomatic and sensitive national security secrets. The government guards those secrets by requiring high-ranking government officials to keep the documents and emails that reflect them in a secure government-approved venue and to return any retained records when leaving office.
I have not seen Clinton’s signature on any documents, but standard government procedure is for her to have signed an agreement under oath when she began her work at the State Department requiring her to safeguard classified records, and another agreement under oath when she ended her work that she had returned all records to the government.


She violated both agreements, and she violated numerous federal laws.


By using her personal email address — @clintonemail.com — she kept her work documents from the government. Concealing government documents from the government when you work for it is a felony, punishable by up to three years in prison and permanent disqualification from holding public office.


Failing to secure classified secrets in a government-approved facility or moving them to a non-secure facility outside the government’s control is a misdemeanor, punishable by a hefty fine and a year in jail. Using a false email address that gives the clear impression that the user is not using a government server when she is, or one that creates the false impression that the emailer is using a government server when she is not, is also a felony.


The legal issues in Clinton’s case are all the more curious when one hears Obama’s tepid reaction to this latest scandal. Asked by Bill Plante of CBS News last weekend when he first learned of Clinton’s use of a personal email server instead of the government’s, the president told Plante he learned of it from the media, last week, when the rest of us did. He later had his press secretary state that he did recognize her use of a non-governmental email address, but did not know it was unlawful or unsecured until last week.


Does the White House not know where the president’s emails are coming from and where they are going?


I wish Plante had followed up with that question and more. Mr. President, are you not troubled that your secretary of state had a non-secure email account and used it for all of her work? Are you not troubled that she might have kept classified secrets on a server in her barn on her estate in Chappaqua, N.Y. that the Secret Service might or might not have known about, or at a computer company in Texas that the Secret Service was unable to protect?


Does it not trouble you, Mr. President, that foreign intelligence services likely would have had a far easier time hacking into the emails of your secretary of state because of all this? Mr. President, will your Department of Justice prosecute Clinton for retaining 48 months of classified records on her personal server after she left office, as it did Gen. David Petraeus, who kept 15 months of classified records in a desk drawer in his home after he left office?


Mr. President, the premise of the law regulating government records is that the government owns them all, and when a high-ranking government official leaves office, the ex-official may ask the government for copies of her personal emails, and the government decides which ones it will give her. Mr. President, don’t you realize that Clinton turned the law on its head by keeping all of her emails from the government?


Thus, rather than the government deciding which emails were personal, Clinton decided which emails were governmental, and she turned those over to the government. How does the government know what is contained in the emails she kept? Mr. President, this is a privilege that even you don’t have, and it is the very behavior that the laws you have sworn to uphold were written to prevent.


Mr. President, did you cut a deal with Clinton’s husband that permits her to get away with this type of behavior? Mr. President, is it true that there are standards of behavior for Bill and Hillary Clinton and their friends and other standards for the rest of us?


Mr. President, do you remember that crackpot Sandy Berger, who was Bill Clinton’s national security adviser from 1997 to 2001 and Mrs. Clinton’s foreign policy adviser when she ran against you in 2008, and who stole documents from the National Archives in 2003 by hiding them under an on-site construction trailer? Do you know that Bill got Sandy a no-jail-time deal including the return of his security clearance, and he got Sandy’s prosecutor a federal judgeship?


Mr. President, when you ran against Hillary Clinton, you promised the most transparent government in history. Do you honestly think you have given us that?
