LOOK WHICH COMPANIES DUMPING BOY SCOUTS

  • Text smaller
  • Text bigger
Major corporations that have donated to the Boy Scouts of America in recent years are largely remaining quiet ahead of the highly anticipated vote Wednesday on the organization’s policy on homosexuals, but some have made it clear their money will go only to groups that don’t discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation.
In 2010, the latest year for which figures are available, the top donors to the Scouts, listed in descending order according to amount, were Intel, Emerson, Verizon, 3M, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Pfizer, Valero, UPS, U.S. Bank, Eli Lilly and Co., GE, Monsanto, Medtronic, PNC, Nationwide, Abbott, General Mills, Alcoa, Caterpillar, Illinois Tool Works, Allstate and Dow Chemical.
As WND reported last week, a major drop in corporate funding came last September after a gay-rights blogger for the Huffington Post published a collaborative report that named the donors and chastised them for violating their own policy of not discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation.
Since the September report, Intel, UPS and Merck are among the corporations that have declared they have stopping funding the BSA.
The homosexual-rights group Scouting for All lists some of the corporations that have refused to fund the BSA’s national organization. They include IBM, Levi Strauss and Company, J.P. Morgan, American Airlines, Medtronic, Portland General Gas and Electric, Hewlett Packard, Textron, Fleet Bank, CVS/Pharmacy Stores and Carrier Corp.
At the time of the September report, shipping giant UPS, which gave $167,000 to the Scouts in 2010, insisted the “gay” policy would not impact its donations. But after a petition drive that month by another homosexual-rights group, Scouts for Equality, UPS changed its mind.
Scouts for Equality now lists UPS, Merck and Intel as corporate sponsors. Among the public figures who support the group’s aims, along with President Obama, are 2012 Republican presidential nominee Gov. Mitt Romney and Washington state Republican gubernatorial nominee Rob McKenna.
Scouting for All also has a list of companies that donate to national or local Boy Scout councils and/or having a matching gifts program for employees who donate to the Scouts. But the list is not up-to-date, as it includes UPS. Scouting for All urges supporters to boycott the listed companies.
UPS spokeswoman Kristen A. Petrella, the international public relations manager, told WND Monday that UPS had no comment in response to questions about how the vote by the Scouts executive board Wednesday might affect the corporation’s position toward the BSA.
General Mills spokeswoman Kris Patton told WND her corporation’s foundation funds local Boy Scout organizations that sign an “affirmation of nondiscrimination” but does not contribute to the national organization.
“As a longstanding practice, organizations we support must sign an affirmation of nondiscrimination as a standard part of our grant-making process.”
The Verizon Foundation, which donated more than $300,000 to the Scouts in 2010, did not respond directly to questions submitted by WND.
More than 70,000 have signed an online petition asking Verizon to stop funding the Scouts.
Spokeswoman Ellen Yu offered only a statement to WND, saying the Verizon Foundation “does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, religion, national or ethnic origin or physical disability.”
“As a company with a highly diverse workforce serving an equally diverse set of customers, Verizon through its foundation supports a wide range of programs through direct and matching grants that benefit diverse communities, including minorities, veterans, gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender and others,” the statement said. “The Verizon Foundation expects all of its grant recipients to comply with all applicable laws, including those governing tax-exempt status and non-discrimination laws.”
Jim Nawrocki, a vice president for communications for the Wells Fargo Foundation, told WND the banking giant was aware of the Wednesday vote but had no comment.
However, he said the foundation’s “position with respect to the Boy Scouts of America has been, and continues to be, that we support the Boy Scouts and the good work they do for our communities, but we do not fund general Boy Scout operations or programs.”
“This is consistent with our commitment to diversity and inclusion and our opposition to discrimination,” he said.
Under the Scouts national organization are nearly 300 regional councils that oversee some 116,000 local troops. The proposed new policy, announced last week, would allow local scouting organizations to set their own leadership and membership rules.
The Boy Scouts’ National Council and its local councils receive grants from foundations. The National Council says it uses its funds for development of program materials and resources; infrastructure support for local councils such as maintaining membership database and reporting functions; development of professional and volunteer training materials; and salaries and benefits for employees.
According to its website, BSA reported revenue of $201.5 million in 2011, including $61 million in contributions and bequests.
Nawrocki said that while Wells Fargo does not fund general Boy Scout operations and programs, it does fund the Scouts’ Learning for Life and Exploring programs, which have explicit non-discrimination policies.
Learning for Life is a pre-kindergarten-through-grade-12 program that provides character education, “bullying prevention” and related “life skills training.”
Exploring provides mentoring, internship and community service opportunities for 14- to 20-year-olds.
“We have carefully reviewed the eligibility requirements for these two programs to ensure that they do not exclude participants and volunteers,” the Wells Fargo spokesman said. “We have no plans to stop this funding. At the local level, we believe our local business leaders make the best possible decisions for their communities and can choose to support any scout programs that meet our commitment to diversity.”
About 70 percent of local scouting troops are sponsored by churches, which contribute funding along with facilities and other resources. The biggest supporter is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Mormons.
LDS officials have declined to comment on the Wednesday vote. But when the Scouts policy was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2000, an LDS attorney wrote that the Mormon church would “withdraw from Scouting if it were compelled to accept openly homosexual Scout leaders.”
The second biggest church supporter of Scouting, the National Catholic Committee on Scouting, also has declined to comment ahead of the vote.
But the Southern Baptist Convention has urged congregations to pray that board members will retain the Scouts policy.
Frank S. Page, head of the convention’s executive committee, said if the policy is changed, he expects an exodus from the Scouts.
“I think there are a lot of parents and students who will make the decision to look for other organizations that are more in line with the principles that they espouse,” he said, according to NBC News.
WND reported yesterday that many Scout leaders, from the national organization to the troop level, have said they will resign if the proposed policy is passed.
‘Our core beliefs’
The September report posted by the Huffington Post was published in collaboration with The American Independent. It called out Intel, UPS, United Way, Merck and others for contributing to an organization with a stated policy of banning homosexuals from membership.
The report came less than two months after the BSA affirmed its policy at the conclusion of a two-year examination of the issue by a committee of volunteers convened by national BSA leaders.
Along with UPS, Intel cut off its funding to the Scouts after the report. In December, Merck issued a statement saying it could not “continue to provide support to an organization with a policy that is contrary to one of our core beliefs.”
“We remain ready and willing to re-consider our funding position in the event that the BSA were to revise its policy,” the statement said.
The American Interest report said 23 of the top 50 corporate foundations, ranked by the Foundation Center in terms of total charitable giving, gave at least $10,000 each to the Boy Scouts in 2010.
Combined, they donated about $3.6 million.
Meanwhile, two prominent board members – including an adviser to the Obama White House – have stated their intent to change the policy, Randall Stephenson of AT&T, who is next in line to become BSA national chairman, and James Turley of Ernst & Young.
“As I have done in leading Ernst & Young to being a most inclusive organization, I intend to continue to work from within the BSA board to actively encourage dialogue and sustainable progress,” Turley said.
Stephenson has been praised for publicly opposing the Boy Scouts’ policy and explained he would remain on the board, which he’s in line to lead in 2014, because he could have more influence.
Turley was nominated to President Obama’s Export Council in 2010, and has been a promoter of Obama’s economic policy.
Turley and his wife, Lynne, were guests at a state dinner hosted by President Obama for British Prime Minister David Cameron at the White House last March.
Battle stations
As with previous U.S. presidents going back to President William Howard Taft in 1910, Obama became the honorary president of the BSA shortly after taking office in 2009.
In a Super Bowl pre-game interview Sunday with CBS’s Scott Pelley, Obama affirmed the Boy Scouts should be open to “gays.”
“I think that my attitude is that gays and lesbians should have access and opportunity the same way everybody else does in every institution and walk of life,” he said.
Obama called the Scouts “a great institution” that is “promoting young people and exposing them to opportunities and leadership that will serve people for the rest of their lives, and I think nobody should be barred from that.”
The White House said last August that Obama opposed the organization’s ban.
In contrast, in a speech to a group of Scouts in Texas Saturday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a Republican presidential candidate last year, urged the organization to not change its policy.
“Hopefully the board will follow their historic position of keeping the Scouts strongly supportive of the values that make scouting this very important and impactful organization,” Perry said, according to the Associated Press.
An Eagle Scout, Perry wrote a book in 2008 titled “On My Honor: Why the American Values of the Boy Scouts Are Worth Fighting For.”
Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, said in an email Monday to supporters that thousands of Americans have contacted the BSA’s national office and board members, urging them “not to cave-in to homosexual activists and corporations which have been threatening the organization’s funding.”
Perkins said BSA leaders “have no doubt realized that their proposed decision might alienate more than it appeases.”
FRC and 41 other allied organizations Monday released a half-page national advertisement in USA Today calling for the Scouts to “stand strong.”
“Every American who believes in freedom of thought and religious liberty should be alarmed by the attacks upon the Boy Scouts, who have had core convictions about morality for 100 years,” the ad said. “Every Scout takes an oath to keep himself ‘morally straight.’ The Boy Scouts have every right to include sexual conduct in how they define that term.”
“Join your voice with ours in sending a message that the organization should model the conviction it has espoused for over a century – that timeless values really are timeless, and don’t change because of threats from corporations and homosexual activists.”
Meanwhile, homosexual-rights activist George Takei, who played Mr. Sulu in the Star Trek TV series, is urging opponents of the Scouts policy to hit their “BATTLESTATIONS!” and “flood” the lines at BSA headquarters with thousands of calls.

Now Obama wants your 401(k)

The Obama administration is proceeding with a novel way to finance trillion-dollar budget deficits by forcing IRA and 401(k) holders to buy Treasury bonds by mandating the placement of government-structured annuities in their retirement accounts.
Remarkably, those financial professionals specializing in private retirement savings and the U.S. citizens investing in private retirement plans now face the possibility the Obama administration and its allies on the political left will impose rules and regulations that effectively abolish the private retirement savings and investment markets.
Recent evidence suggests government officials continue to eye the multi-trillion dollar private retirement savings market, including IRAs and 401(k) plans, eyeing the opportunity to redistribute private retirement savings to less affluent Americans and to force the retirement savings out of the private market and into government-controlled programs investing in government-issued debt.
Government takeover?
An Investment Company Institute study published this month found that U.S. retirement assets totaled $18.5 trillion at the end of the second quarter 2012, of which 3.5 trillion was in IRAs and $5.1 trillion was in 401(k) plans.
Since 2010, the U.S. Treasury Department and the Department of Labor have been holding combined hearings on various plans designed to introduce government-mandated retirement plans and investment options, including government annuities invested primarily in U.S. Treasury debt, into the private retirement savings market.
“This hearing was set up to explore why Americans are not saving as much for their retirement as they could,” explained National Seniors Council National Director Robert Crone, describing a recent Treasury-Labor hearing held in the Labor Department’s main auditorium.
“However it is clear that his is just the first step toward a government takeover. It feels like the beginning of the debate over health care and we all know how that ended up.”
‘Automatic IRA’
With the issuance of the White House 256-page Budget Proposal for Fiscal Year 2013, the Obama administration endorsed “Automatic IRAs,” a plan introduced into Congress in 2010 by Sens. John Kerry, D-Mass, and Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., in which private companies would be automatically enrolled into government-mandated IRAs, forcing those businesses to contribute on behalf of their employees a “default amount” equal to 3 percent of an employees pay, unless an employee specifically opts out of the plan.
The FY 2013 Budget proposal notes that currently 78 million working Americans, roughly half of the work force, lack employer-based retirement plans.

In response to the statement above...no. Her college thesis was on communist Saul Alinsky, and he offered her a job after she graduated. Queen Beatrix quits, the Rockefellers flee, the Bushes are rats in a trap; Queen Elizabeth, the Pope and the Rothschilds are still standing
Weekly Geopolitical News and Analysis

The announcement last week that Queen “Bilderberg” Beatrix of the Netherlands was abdicating the throne is but a visible sign of some fundamental changes in the secret power structure of the West. In a yet to be publicly confirmed move, David and J. Rockefeller have fled to an Island near Fiji, according to a CIA source. The Bush family, for its part, tried to flee via an airport in Arkansas but were prevented from doing so by the FBI, the same source says.
This source, who correctly predicted the resignation of Queen Beatrix is also saying that Queen Elizabeth with resign in favour of her grandson in the near future.
These moves are all connected to the ongoing counter-attack against the genocidal Western elitists affiliated with the Bilderberg group, the Council on Foreign Relations and other related organizations. As will be described below, there is a lot more to come.
Also, at the time of this writing Lord James Sassoon has not responded to a hand-written letter delivered to him last week at the House of Lords in England asking for comment on the allegations that he bribed 82 politicians (actually paid actors) affiliated with Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
There are also plenty of indications of escalating infighting within the financial elite. The SWIFT international banking transfer system, for example, is becoming dysfunctional because

Obama Says U.S. Needs Revenue Along With Spending Cuts

BO is the 'president' of a PRIVATE CORPORATION.  BO is NOT YOUR PRESIDENT.  You DO NOT OWE THIS PRESIDENT OR HIS CORPORATION ANYTHING.  THIS DEFICIT BELONGS TO THEIR CORPORATION.   IT IS NOT OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY OFF THEIR DEFICIT OR TO COVER THEIR IRRESPONSIBILITY.   LET THEM USE THEIR OWN MONIES TO PAY OFF THEIR OWN DEFICIT/DEBTS.

Obama Says U.S. Needs Revenue Along With Spending Cuts

ONE GUESS HOW THAT REVENUE IS GOING TO BE EXTRACTED

By Roger Runningen - Feb 4, 2013 4:52 AM MT

Obama Sees Need for More Revenue Coupled With Cuts
President Barack Obama said there is “no doubt” the government needs new revenue from closing tax “loopholes” and limiting deductions, along with enacting spending cuts, to reduce the federal deficit.

                    Needs Revenue With Spending Cuts

There’s “no reason why we can’t have really strong growth in 2013,” the president said in an interview with CBS television yesterday before the network’s Super Bowl broadcast. He cited a recovering housing industry, strong manufacturing and rising car sales.
Revenue could be raised through an overhaul of the tax code, he said, “and we can do it in a gradual way so that it doesn’t have a huge impact.”
“There is no doubt we need additional revenue, coupled with smart spending reductions in order to bring down our deficit,” he said. “I don’t think the issue right now is raising rates.”
Two reports last week suggested worrying signs about the economy. The Commerce Department said Jan. 30 that the gross domestic product, the value of all goods and services produced, dropped at a 0.1 percent annual rate in the fourth quarter, the worst performance since the second quarter of 2009, when the world’s largest economy was still in the recession.
The fourth-quarter drop in GDP was largely due to a decline in government outlays and a smaller gain in inventories that subtracted a combined 2.6 percentage points from growth, Commerce Department data showed Jan. 30.

Unemployment Rate

Two days later the Labor Department reported that the unemployment rate increased to 7.9 percent from 7.8 percent, even as employers added 157,000 jobs in January after a revised 196,000 advance in the prior month.
Obama said there are positive signs in the economy. “The big problem was defense spending was cut 22 percent, the biggest drop in 40 years,” he said. Business hesitated and defense contracts were postponed or cut during the year-end debate over the increased taxes and cuts in spending, known as the “fiscal cliff,” that were part of a budget law enacted in late 2011.
“Washington cannot continually operate under a cloud of crisis,” Obama said on CBS. “That freezes up consumers, it gets businesses worried. We can’t afford these self-inflicted wounds.”
He said the prescription for economic growth is through “a balanced approach” of spending cuts and increases in revenue that he said a majority of Americans agree with.
“We can’t have Washington dysfunction getting in the way,” the president said.

‘Loopholes,’ Deductions

Obama said the government can cut health-care costs, though he added that unspecified “loopholes” and deductions should also be tightened or closed.
“If you combine those things together, then we can not only reduce our deficit but we can continue to invest in things like education and research and development that are going to help us grow -- without raising rates again,” Obama said.
On other domestic issues, Obama said:
--“No I don’t” have any hesitation allowing women in military combat, “because women, as a practical matter, are now in combat.”
Women can do “everything a man can, and more,” he said, adding that the government shouldn’t keep women from advancing in the military.

Celebrity Saudi preacher who 'raped' and tortured his five-year-old daughter to death escapes with light sentence

A Saudi preacher who tortured his five-year-old daughter to death has been released after agreeing to pay 'blood money', activists said.
Lama al-Ghamdi died in October having suffered multiple injuries including a crushed skull, broken ribs and left arm, extensive bruising and burns.
The child had also been repeatedly raped and the burned.
Lama suffered multiple injuries including a crushed skull, broken ribs and back, bruising and burns. She had been raped repeatedly and died of her injuries in October
Her father Fayhan al-Ghamdi, a prominent Islamist preacher who regularly appears on television in Saudi Arabia, served only a few months in jail despite admitting having used a cane and cables to inflict the injuries.
Activists from the group Women to Drive said the preacher had doubted Lama's virginity and had her checked up by a medic.
Randa al-Kaleeb, a social worker from the hospital where Lama was admitted, said the girl's back was broken and that she had been repeatedly raped.
Her injuries were then burned.
Rather than the death penalty or a long prison sentence, the judge in the case ruled the prosecution could only seek 'blood money', according to activists.
The money is compensation for the next of kin under Islamic law.

Activists said the judge ruled the few months al-Ghamdi spent in prison since his arrest in November was sufficient punishment.
He has reportedly agreed to pay £31,000 ($50,000), which is believed to have gone to Lama's mother.
The amount is half that would have been paid if Lama had been a boy.
Activists say under Islamic laws a father cannot be executed for murdering his children. Husbands can also not be executed for murdering their wives, the group say.
Three Saudi activists, including Manal al-Sharif, who started the women's right to drive campaign, have raised objections to the ruling.
A social media campaign is now gaining momentum after the ruling was publicised.
Manal al-Sharif has launched a campaign on Twitter using the hashtag 'Ana Lama', which is translated as I am Lama, calling for better protection for children and women.
Local reports say public anger in Saudi Arabia is also growing and authorities have said they will create a 24-hour hotline to take calls about child abuse.

Why do American soldiers commit suicide at unprecedented rates?

PressTV: Why do American soldiers commit suicide at unprecedented rates?

By Zaher Mahruqi
They get brainwashed to believe that whenever they are sent abroad to fight a war they are in fact doing something of transcendent nature; that they are getting involved in something far bigger than themselves; that they are participating in something almost holly; that they are fighting to rescue humanity.”
Related Interviews:
I have always been aware that suicide among American soldiers on duty and among veterans was the highest in the world but an article on Presstv website brought to my attention the fact that American soldiers commit suicide in an astounding rate; “recent studies have indicated that those who fought in recent US wars overseas are 30 percent to 200 percent more likely to commit suicide than their non-veteran peers”.
There has been an overall increase of self killing among veterans by 20% since 2007. According to Newser.com “the suicide rate among veterans is three times the national figure, and advocates say action is needed”. Ironically, among soldiers on duty the deaths by suicide are more than those in combat.
That makes the life losses suffered by the American military as a direct result of recent wars far higher than previously thought and easily surpasses the deaths of known combat enemies such al-Qaeda and Taliban. The numbers are so shockingly high that one wonders what could be the reasons!
According to psychologists and others who have been studying the phenomenon, the most agreed upon factor is post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). There is some truth in that but for reasons to be discussed later, in my view, limiting it wholly or even majorly to PTSD is not telling the full story.
The young men and women recruited by a country which has been stepping out of one war into another and in many instances had been involved in multiple conflicts simultaneously, are often impressionable and believe almost everything told to them and that is the root of the problem.
Some soldiers do get into the army as a matter of choice but the majorities are drafted for reasons ranging from economic benefits to other more disturbing motives. The American army is a master of recruiting and has many tools to do so; not the least is Hollywood and large television networks and hundreds of government supported websites. Through these propaganda machines, young people are being made to believe in fantasies.
They get brainwashed to believe that whenever they are sent abroad to fight a war they are in fact doing something of transcendent nature; that they are getting involved in something far bigger than themselves; that they are participating in something almost holly; that they are fighting to rescue humanity.
They are told and retold that the US is in a crusade to save the world from evil and to spread its great values through enforcing “democracy” around the world. In short, they are made to believe that whoever they are going to be fighting against is evil and they are the heroes who would rid the world of that menace.
So to war they go. Then later when they are too deeply involved, they come to realize that most of what they have been told regarding the enemy was in fact lies. By this point if a soldier hasn’t lost a limb or an eye or his sanity, he has to live with the fact that he wasn’t indeed fighting for good but was mislead. Getting his limb back or washing off the blood from his hands is impossible by this point. The guilt, the resentment and the sheer helplessness to go backwards in time can make many people despair.
Being motivated to go to war by being made to believe that you are embarking on something patriotic and otherwise heroic could be believable for an impressionable young man who has never been in a battlefield before. But the very lie that you are going to be participating in something of great value and in fact sacrificing for something worthwhile is shattered when a soldier returns home to be faced with neglect by their government which had done a marvelous job of convincing them to go to war in the first place.
Upon return, thousands of American veterans lack basic life needs such as a job, shelter (total number of veterans homeless is between 110,000 and 130,000) and healthcare. That is not the treatment a hero deserves, the veteran comes to realize, and what a devastating realization that must be! One’s life is fully altered and no one is there to console and show some understanding and appreciation, that must be truly tough.
The PTSD explanation might have some validity but it is more a convenience for the psychologists working for the pentagon than need to seek the truth. PTSD has all to do with the horrific memories left by the war and their incessant presence in the mind and their consequent effect on the emotions and no one can refute that.
The American soldier, by the time the first bullet passes an inch from his ears; he is awakened to the possibility that he has been duped by politicians into something that is far from resembling just cause.
They come to fathom that they weren’t fighting for anything of transcendent nature but for the interests of the Bushs and Obamas of this world who are often fighting to further Zionism and their own interests. Far from being just cause!!
The dreadful news for the US military and chiefly veterans is that among the 22 veterans who kill themselves every day, 50% are above 50 years old which would hint to the long term and seemingly lifelong psychological damage caused by unprovoked and unnecessary American wars. Even those who persevere, depressions and lifelong mental illnesses and emotional turmoil’s are the only fate for many of them.

Suicide Bombing at U.S. Embassy in Turkey

Last Friday a suicide-bomber wearing an explosive-laden vest entered the outside security checkpoint of the U.S. Embassy in Turkey and detonated the explosives killing himself and an embassy security guard according to this story from The New York Times:
“…a man entered a security checkpoint near the consular section and began to panic as the metal detector buzzed. When he reached for his midsection, a Turkish guard yelled, “Run away, a bomb!” according to NTV. The footage then went black.”
American ambassador Francis J. Ricciardone Jr. was able to speak to reporters after the incident and said that “we” had already received an outpouring of support since the attack, felt safe, and would continue to fight terrorism.
The Turkish government blames a Marxist group for the attack and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan believes a skin mark on the head of the attacker identifies him as having been imprisoned for domestic terrorism before.
The White House commented saying it was to early to tell who is to blame for the bombing, and the U.S. will launch its own investigation into this incident. This isn’t the first time  in recent history an act of terrorism has occurred at an U.S. Embassy, for example the attacks in Libya last year. The State Department has issued a warning for American citizens to avoid diplomatic missions to Turkey until otherwise noted and to be on the alert for violence and large crowds.
