Hospitals and commonly prescribed drugs are killing and harming the elderly

(The Best Years in Life) Prescription drugs and the combination of those drugs and other medications are taking a heavy toll on elderly Americans, leading to risky hospitalizations, mental decline and death. And some of those drugs are worse than others.

A study published last November in the New England Journal of Medicine found that blood thinners and diabetes drugs caused most of the emergency hospital visits for drug reactions among people over 65 years of age in the United States. According to the study, just four medications - used alone or in combination - were responsible for two-thirds of the emergency hospitalizations among older adults.

At the top of the list was the blood thinner wayfarin, also known as Coumadin, which accounted for 33 percent of emergency hospital visits. Insulin injections came in second on the list, accounting for 14 percent of the visits. Aspirin, clopidogrel and other antiplatelet drugs prescribed to prevent blood clotting were third with 13 percent and just behind them were oral hypoglycemic drugs for diabetes which were responsible for 11 percent of the visits.

Last July, another study reported in The Journal of the American Geriatrics Society found that over half the elderly were regularly prescribed dozens of painkillers, antihistamines and psychiatric medications called anticholinergics which lead to mental decline and death. Researchers found that those taking more than one anticholinergic drug scored lower on tests of cognitive function than those who were not using any such drugs, and that the death rate for the heavy users during the course of the study was 68 percent higher.

Hospital visits often turn into death traps, especially for the elderly

Thanks to rampant infections in our hospitals, patients who enter for one condition end up acquiring deadly bugs which often become fatal - and this is particularly true for the elderly.

The most common infection acquired in hospitals is pneumonia. The sixth leading cause of death in the US, pneumonia is the fourth leading cause of death among the elderly and hospitals appear to be helpless in preventing its spread. Hospitals likewise have been unable to prevent the often deadly medication-resistant staph superbug MRSA from spreading wildly in recent years.

As was reported last year in Natural News, an old bacterial nemesis named clostridium difficile (C difficle) is becoming more deadly and its incidence is increasing at alarming rates in hospitals across North America and Europe. Its primary cause is antibiotic drugs wiping out bacteria that compete with C difficile.

Another new infectious agent which has appeared in the United States is called CRKP (Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae). By early 2011 CRKP had already been identified in hospitals in 36 states. CRKP is resistant to antibiotics, and patients who acquire it are at a high risk of death, usually within 30 days. Death rates for CRKP have been reported to be between 30 and 44 percent.

Other hospital complications common among the elderly include delirium, which occurs in one-third of hospitalized patients over the age of 65 and in more than 70 percent of older patients in Intensive Care Units, bedsores and malnutrition.

By the time a person reaches 65 years of age in the US, they are taking an average of nine prescription drugs each day. Add in over the counter medications and the number of drugs taken daily increases to a dozen or more. Since over 95 percent of all approved medications have side effects, each new medication increases the likelihood of further health problems.

Sadly, chances are great that all those medications began being administered for one or two conditions which could have been treated naturally.

Putin Warns Obama Of “Catastrophic War Game” Minutes Before Malaysian Jet Destroyed

The Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces (GRU) is reporting today that within 5-minutes of President Putin warning his US counterpart, President Obama, that “war games” being carried out by NATO member Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) forces over Romania could lead to a“potential catastrophe”, Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was destroyed over the eastern conflict region of Ukraine.

According to this report, Putin was in flight during his call to Obama returning to Moscow aboard his presidential aircraft from Brazil when he was notified that there were a number of “critical radar anomalies” occurring over EUROCONTROL zones in Central Europe.

EUROCONTROL, which boasts that it has a “unique approach to civil-military aviation coordination in Europe”, this report says, is solely responsible for determining civil aircraft flight paths over European airspace and had previously, along with NATO forces, been accused by Slovakian authorities of being a part of the massive radar blackouts occurring over Central Europe between 5-10 June causing planes to disappear from their air traffic controllers screens.

Even though the Slovak state Air Traffic Services company said that the disappearance of these planes from radar screens was connected to a military exercise whose goal was “the interruption of radio communication frequencies”, this report continues, NATO denied being involved stating that their AWACS surveillance aircraft that had been flying regular missions over Europe to monitor Russian activities near Ukraine and did not have a radar jamming capability.

This GRU report, however, states that NATO was being “highly deceptive” in their denial as no one had identified, indeed even mentioned, AWACS aircraft as being a part of the June radar blackouts over the heart of Europe, but instead had named NATO-RCAF CF-18 Hornets based in Romania as potentially being the cause.

The RCAF CF-18 Hornets belong to the 425 Tactical Fighter Squadron and began arriving in Romania in the days prior to the 5-10 June where they began engaging in “highly provocative war games”, this report says, which included electronic jamming of civilian flight radars.

So “provocative” have RCAF pilots been, GRU experts in this report note, last week they were tasked by NATO to begin “direct confrontations” along the Russia border with Lithuania against Russian Air Force pilots beginning in August.

As to why the RCAF has been so “provocative” in their war games over Romania-Ukrainian skies, this report says, is “directly related” to the ongoingcontroversy in Canada relating their intended purchase of US F-35 fighter jets as opposed to upgrading their current CF-18’s into what are called Super Hornets.

Specifically being tested by RCAF CF-18 Hornets over Romania and Ukraine since early June, GRU experts in this report further states, were those aircraft having completed the Incremental Modernization Project Phase II which equipped them with an Integrated Electronic Warfare Support Station and what is called the Electronic Warfare Test Equipment Project.

Now upon Putin being advised yesterday of the “critical situation” over Ukraine relating to these RCAF “war games”, this report says, he immediately contacted Obama where he related to him the “grave consequences” that could occur if these “activities” weren’t immediately halted.

Specifically concerning Putin, which this report says was also related to Obama, was the 3 July accusation by Ukraine that three helicopters bearing the markings of the Russian armed forces had violated Ukrainian airspace several times.

Five days later, on 8 July, the Ukrainian State Aviation Service announced that they shut down their airspace in the southeast of the country, but curiously further stated it would “remain closed to civilian aircraft for security reasons with the exception of transit flights at altitudes of above 7,900 m until the situation fully normalizes”.

Following their 8 July airspace shutdown, this report continues, the Defense Ministry warned that Ukrainian battalions of 27 Buk-M1 missile systems able to hit targets across the entire altitude range were then deployed near the city of Donetsk in the region where Malaysia Airlines MH17 was destroyed.

Important to note about the Buk missile system, this report says, is that its technological sophistication seriously impacts its battlefield use as this weapon as used in a battalion consists of a command vehicle, a target acquisition radar (TAR) vehicle, six transporter erector launcher and radar (TELAR) vehicles and three transporter erector launcher (TEL) vehicles.

As to the exact and tragic destruction of Malaysia Airlines MH17 yesterday, this report concludes, the “electronic war games” being conducted by the RCAF in some way altered the course of this civilian plane [photo bottom left] putting it on a flight path it had never taken before in its previous 10 flights to the Russian Air Base in Morozovsk located in the Rostov Oblast close to the border with Ukraine, and which in normalized times was the accepted route to this destination for Russian military flights. 

To if the Ukrainian forces working in concert with the RCAF deliberately attempted to confuse the radar of what they believed was a Russian military flight causing it to over fly this conflict region this report doesn’t say.  But then again, with the world being the way it is, anything is possible.

A top pro-Russia rebel commander in eastern Ukraine has given a bizarre version of events surrounding the Malaysian jetliner crash — suggesting many of the victims may have died days before the plane took off. The pro-rebel website Russkaya Vesna on Friday quoted Igor Girkin as saying he was told by people at the crash site that "a significant number of the bodies weren't fresh," adding that he was told they were drained of blood and reeked of decomposition. The Malaysia Airlines Boeing-777 was shot down Thursday, killing all 298 people aboard. The plane was flying 10,000 meters above an area where Ukrainian forces have been fighting separatist rebels. Each side accuses the other of downing the plane. U.S. intelligence authorities said a surface-to-air missile brought down the plane, and U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power told the U.N. Discuss Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and his ministers with his salary and their pensions.

 A source familiar with the Council of Ministers of the reporter Agency for News News (et al) Maliki discussed on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday after the end of the agenda of the meeting of his retirement and retirement and his ministers after the formation of the new government, did not mention the source further details.

Tlar:  Obama supposedly made a deal with Maliki allowing for his resignation and removal.  I would love to know what it was.  It can't be that the international community would agree to let him off charges.

Genicide would be a very hard charge to wipe out and there is no way they would let him off scot free.  The SOL should now come around as the articles are saying they are.

One can only hope they don't continue to insist on Tareq or Jaafari but rather put up Chalabi or Mahdi.  If they do this, it most likely will be over on Wednesday.  Salih was and still is the President to be elected.

The VP's, a Shia and a Sunni both are waiting in the wings.  If the SOL chooses Chalabi and/or Mahdi, its done and should be signed sealed and delivered on Wednesday.

 Turki then should feel free to push the button changing the rate within days of the announcement that there is a new non-sec tarian government.  Jubilation will finally come to the Iraqi street.

According to sources, it has been trading name of Ibrahim al-Jaafari and Adel Abdul Mahdi and Tariq Najim, to take over as prime minister, while sources confirm that Tariq star will be the luckiest as of close to the owners, and that his tenure comes to satisfy the last resort in a political deal will be announced within a week.

According to other sources that al-Maliki is now trying to get a decision from the Federal Court authorized the formation of the government as the largest bloc which won the most votes and not the National Alliance.

Dreamweaver:  Tlar, agree it could happen as soon as country is politcally safe from both Maliki and ISIS ... but can't see Turki RV'ing  while ISIS running amok and possibly prospering -- unless that situation is more resolved than news is reporting.  Believe Sunnis when they say they will take care of the buggers ... so hopefully they can get 'er done in rapid order.

Rockstar:   DW I believe as soon as the new PM is announced and voted in we will see ISIS disappear and will be a non issue! We already seem to be seeing articles of them retreating.

There was also a couple of articles over the past couple of weeks that said specifically as soon as Maliki is gone they will be gone so I believe all is good and this will be a non issue personally!

 I think the bigger issue that no one seems to look at is once the new PM is voted in will he keep Turki as the CBI Governor, if not and he puts someone new in unless it's Shabibi than we maybe in for another delay!
