Amid a new report of Islamic indoctrination in public schools, the American Center for Law and Justice is fighting back with a petition drive that already has garnered 120,000 signatures.
Earlier this year, public-school students in Madison, Wisconsin, were given an assignment to “pretend you are Muslim,” while students in Florida were instructed to “recite the Five Pillars of Islam as a prayer, make Islamic prayer rugs and perform other Muslim rituals,” ACLJ said Monday.
Now, parents of public-school students in Tennessee are protesting assignments that include writing a declaration that Allah is supreme and textbooks that recount Islamic doctrines as facts instead of beliefs.
Nearly 120,000 people have signed ACLJ’s petition demanding a halt to such teaching.
“What if your child or grandchild’s public school forced them to write out the Shahada – the Islamic conversion creed – while having skipped Christianity?” the organization asked.
In “Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance,” renowned activist Pamela Geller provides the answer, offering proven, practical guidance on how freedom lovers can stop jihadist initiatives in local communities.
“What if your child’s study guide had a section called ‘Origins of Islam’ that included statements such as, ‘Around the age of 40, the angel Gabriel told Muhammad that he was to be a prophet of Allah.’
“Stated as fact, not belief,” the ACLJ said.
The Columbia Daily Herald in Middle Tennessee reported details of the allegations.
In the Maury County school district, the paper reported parent Brandee Porterfield said her daughter “brought home school materials containing the Five Pillars of Islam.”
But the school skipped the textbook’s section on Christianity.
School officials explained, she told the Herald, that Christianity was not part of the state’s standards, so it wasn’t covered.
“I have a big problem with that. From a historical point of view, that’s a lot of history these kids are missing,” Porterfield told the newspaper. “Also, for them to spend three weeks on Islam after having skipped Christianity, it seems to be that they are making a choice about which religion to discuss.”
She said her concerns were about her seventh-grade daughter being taught the “Shahada,” the profession of Islamic faith.
“From a religion point of view, if the schools are going to be teaching religion in history, they need to teach them all equally,” she said.
The ACLJ reported called it “Islamic indoctrination right here in our schools.”
The organization said Maury County school officials admitted they were addressing “some sensitive topics” in class and there appeared to be some “confusion.”
“That’s outrageous,” ACLJ said. “The indoctrination of students with the precepts of converting to Islam and forcing them to recite ‘Allah is the only god’ aren’t ‘sensitive topics’; it’s unconstitutional.
“Imagine the outcry from the ACLU, Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), and other leftist and angry atheist organizations if a study guide states, ‘Jesus is the Son of God,’ and forced children to recite the Lord’s Prayer.”
Now, Sekulow’s organization said it is taking action.
“We’re in direct contact with a number of parents and concerned citizens, we’re taking on new clients, and preparing critical demand letters and open records requests to these schools and school districts,” the group said.
“It is a clear constitutional principle that public education may not indoctrinate young minds into a religion. Teachers and schools may teach what different faith traditions believe and how that has affected world history and geography. But a school cannot censor Christianity and promote Islam.”
The organization offers a Web link for the petition project.
The Daily Herald reported Jan Hanvey, a middle school supervisor for Maury County Public Schools, said the curriculum has covered the subject for decades, and Buddhism and Hinuism also are covered.
She told the newspaper the chapter on Christianity was not skipped but was being delayed.
The newspaper cited state advisories that called for seventh-grade social studies to begin with the Islamic world and then move to Africa. The “Age of Exploration” follows, which continues into eighth grade.
Hanvey told the newspaper Christianity is discussed in the “Age of Exploration,” partly because religious persecution is one of the reasons for a search for a new world.
Fox News reported Maury County Director of Schools Chris Marczak said his teachers “work together to make sure that our students are learning what is expected through the Tennessee academic standards.”
“For this last section on the Islamic World this past week, our educators had students complete an assignment that had an emphasis on Islamic faith,” he said. “The assignment covered some sensitive topics that are of importance to Islamic religion and caused some confusion around whether we are asking students to believe in or simply understand the religion.”
WND reported earlier this year teachers and administrators at a Pennsylvania school district attended a training session on Islam and Arabic culture at taxpayer expense.
The workshop in the town of Lebanon was led by a former district Arabic translator, Mohamed Omar, who took time off from his Department of Human Services job in Philadelphia “to share his knowledge of Islam with the staff,” the Lebanon Daily News reported.
“I think this is the first time ever in the United States that a school district goes to a mosque,” mosque founder Hamid Housni told the Daily News. “Usually a representative of a mosque goes somewhere. We don’t have words to explain to you how we appreciate that. This is very, very special.”
In “Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance,” renowned activist Pamela Geller provides the answer, offering proven, practical guidance on how freedom lovers can stop jihadist initiatives in local communities.
In 2006, WND reported students in Nyssa, Oregon, were learning Muslim prayers and dressing as Muslims.
Another assignment was to learn the “Five Pillars” of Islam, study the Muslim holiday of Ramadan and listen to guest speakers, including an American Muslim who came dressed in her religious costume to talk about her Quran.
A resulting lawsuit regarding the curriculum was similar to a previous case in which the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals eventually ruled such indoctrination was permissible as “cultural education.”

US Chemical Giant DuPont Heads to Trial Over Decades-Long Acid Poisoning

Suit claims the deadly acid poisoned water supplies

US Chemical Giant DuPont Heads to Trial Over Decades-Long Acid Poisoning
by Sputnik | September 15, 2015

One of world’s largest chemical producers, DuPont, is facing litigation from 3,500 West Virginia residents for allegedly contaminating drinking water with a toxic acid that’s been linked to serious disease in thousands of Americans.
Teflon, Nylon and Kevlar — materials that have benefited generations of people worldwide. But what about their cost to the environment?
Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), or C-8, has been used by DuPont’s Washington Works plant in Parkersburg, West Virginia since the 1950s as a processing aid for Teflon and other products.  But fifteen years ago it was discovered how dangerous to human health the toxic substance was, Reuters reports. So, the company started phasing out use of C-8. Slowly.
For some, it was already too late. They claim the deadly acid poisoned water supplies, causing any number of serious illnesses, six of which a panel acknowledged in 2004 as being linked to C-8: kidney and testicular cancer, ulcerative colitis, thyroid disease, pregnancy-induced hypertension and high cholesterol. Their cases will be now reviewed in US court.
The first plaintiff is Carla Marie Bartlett, who says she developed kidney cancer developed after drinking contaminated water. She is one of approximately 3,500 who have sued DuPont in federal court in Ohio. The second trial is due to start in the end of November.
A class action lawsuit against DuPont over C-8 was brought fourteen years ago. In 2004, the company settled, approving funding for medical monitoring programs and the installation of advanced water treatment systems. The company also convened a panel of scientists, which determined the link between C-8 and the six diseases.
In 1996, DuPont was ordered to pay $200,000 for C8 area contamination that was killing cattle and deer. Moreover, some of the facility’s employees also became sick.
“We have a problem here in West Virginia and even at the national level, where regulatory agencies are not necessarily doing the best job they could in monitoring and policing these types of facilities,” West Virginia Citizen Action Group Executive Director Gary Zuckett told Sputnik earlier.
Commenting on Barlett’s case, DuPont stated it believes Bartlett’s exposure to C-8 was insufficient to cause health problems, and that other factors, like obesity, may be to blame for her cancer, Reuters reported.
Spokesman Daniel Turner said in a statement that DuPont has worked with regulators, employees and residents to address health and safety concerns, and the company said it has phased out the use of C-8 in recent years.

DOJ Helping Law Enforcement Agencies Fight Back Against Asset Forfeiture Reform

DOJ Helping Law Enforcement Agencies Fight Back Against Asset Forfeiture Reform

By partnering with federal agencies, local law enforcement often saw bigger payouts than with strictly local forfeitures

DOJ Helping Law Enforcement Agencies Fight Back Against Asset Forfeiture Reform
by Tim Cushing | Tech Dirt | September 15, 2015

At the beginning of this year, Attorney General Eric Holder attempted to close an exploitable loophole in asset forfeiture laws. State and local law enforcement agencies often sought federal “adoption” of seizures in order to route around statutes that dumped assets into general funds or otherwise limited them from directly profiting from these seizures. By partnering with federal agencies, local law enforcement often saw bigger payouts than with strictly local forfeitures.
The loophole closure still had its own loopholes (seizures for “public safety,” various criminal acts), but it did make a small attempt to straighten out some really perverted incentives. But deep down inside, it appears the DOJ isn’t really behind true forfeiture reform. In fact, it seems to be urging local law enforcement to fight these efforts by pointing out just how much money these agencies will “lose” if they can’t buddy up with Uncle Sam.
A cache of documents uncovered by the Institute for Justice today demonstrate that federal law enforcement officials in the Departments of Justice (DOJ) and Treasury are collaborating with local law enforcement organizations in California to undermine efforts to reform the state’s civil forfeiture laws. The California District Attorneys Association is circulating a set of emails from officials with the DOJ and Treasury indicating that the federal government would disqualify the state from receiving funds from the federal Equitable Sharing Program if it passes the pending reforms. The documents also reveal that the DOJ has already disqualified New Mexico from participating in the program, following passage of a sweeping civil forfeiture reform bill this spring.
The DOJ’s insertion into the legislative process begins with talking points delivered in emails that stress the amount of money agencies will be “losing” if they’re no longer allowed to federalize seizures. The documents show members of the Treasury Department affirming that California’s reform will “force” the DOJ to cut state law enforcement agencies out of the loop — supposedly because the Mother Ship can’t secure convictions fast enough.

Citing “resources, desire, or technical capability,” Treasury Executive Office for Asset Forfeiture Legal Counsel Melissa Nasrah wrote in an email to Santa Barbara Senior Deputy District Attorney Lee Carter, “I highly doubt our federal agencies can figure out whether a conviction occurred in any timely manner,” and “it seems the legislation, in effect, takes decision-making authority away from Treasury. Accordingly, I think I would still advise our policy officials here that it would be prudent to not share with CA agencies should this law be passed.”
Sure enough, the “warnings” from the feds are echoed in a letter from the California District Attorneys’ Association in opposition of the bill. The association expresses its abject dismay at the fact that law enforcement agencies might actually have to secure convictions to hold onto seized assets. According to the CDAA, asset forfeiture without accompanying convictions is a must because indictments and jail time alone aren’t punitive enough.
The current version of the bill would essentially deny every law enforcement agency in California direct receipt of any forfeited assets. California’s asset forfeiture law will be changed for the worse, and it will cripple the ability of law enforcement to forfeit assets from drug dealers when arrest and incarceration is an incomplete strategy for combatting drug trafficking.
The Treasury Department, for its part, argues that a conviction requirement would prevent the DOJ from a) being fair and b) performing the studious oversight that has prevented asset forfeiture from devolving into cops going shopping for stuff they want.
A transfer to a state-controlled fund would not be a permissible use of funds, especially when that central fund would redistribute money to all law enforcement agencies in the state, regardless of their eligibility or participation in our program.
All participating agencies must report their expenditures to DOJ at the end of their fiscal year. As you are aware, there are many law enforcement items that cannot be purchased with equitably shared funds, and some are fully prohibited both by policy and executive order. lf a participating agency turns its federally shared funds over to the State of California under those proposed amendments, DOJ can no longer provide appropriate oversight over final expenditures.
The CDAA goes on to complain that the proposed reforms would reverse the one-way screwing it has become accustomed to.
The vast majority of civil narcotic asset forfeiture cases in California resolve by default or settlement. Providing attorney fees to the party that “substantially prevails” could result in attorney fees being available when the People return 50 percent or more of the seizure in a settlement. This would be an unprecedented one-way benefit for a civil litigant, and a huge additional cost to prosecuting forfeitures. Further, in appropriate cases and under existing civil law, attorney fees are already available to claimants in a forfeiture action.
Note the use of “the People” to portray this as robbing the public of the benefits of seized funds when, in actuality, it’s usually just the theft of funds from (lowercase) people.
It’s easy to see why California law enforcement is panicking. There’s almost $84 million at stake, if the CDAA’s stats are accurate. These agencies want to control how they get these funds, what they have to do to hold onto them and how they’re disbursed. Anything short of the status quo is just a win for drug dealers. This is hardly unexpected behavior. Nothing makes government agencies more defensive than furtive movements in the direction of their wallets.
That the DOJ has decided to pile on — despite its nominal reform efforts — is also less than shocking. After all, it takes a cut from every “adopted” investigation — all the while enabling local entities to bypass statutory safeguards meant to keep the abuse of civil forfeiture to a minimum.

Spirit of Liberty

Spirit of Liberty

From:
John Porter
September 15, 2015

To:
Americans everywhere:

I would like to ask if you would just sit with me some where in a quiet place, erase any political party agenda completely from our thoughts, think and speak honestly and truthfully about something for a few moments only as free American people, namely the Spirit of Liberty, the sacred tie that binds us together.

What is spirit? Webster's Dictionary : breath, courage, vigor, the soul, life; the thinking, motivating, feeling part of man, often as distinguished from the body.

What is Liberty? Webster's Dictionary: Freedom from any form of arbitrary control; the sum of rights and exemptions possessed in common by the people of a community or state; exemption from compulsion.

The spirit of Liberty has to be in the hearts and minds of the people. Individual Liberty will only be preserved as long as there is devotion to freedom, expressed in the hearts and actions of the people. Our desire for Individual Liberty must be stronger than those who desire to turn us into their subjects under the arbitrary control of government.

This American experiment in people being individually free and governing themselves is unique in all the history of man, because it places Individual Liberty above all other forms of government.

In 1775 Alexander Hamilton said, "The sacred rights of mankind are not to be looked for among old parchments or musty records. They are written, as with a sunbeam, in the whole volume of human nature, by the hand of the divinity itself, and can never be erased." It has been said, "History moves toward freedom because the desire for freedom is written in every human heart." I ask you, why on earth are we allowing our Liberty to be taken from us? Have we let our hearts grow void of the desire to remain free and just willingly give up our God-given right to think and act for ourselves without government dictating to us how we should live our lives? Have we lost our Spirit of Liberty?

The current state of corruption, the lies, deception and incompetence in our government, the seemingly uncaring, uninterested, too busy attitude of a great many people does not bode well for our future as a free Republic. However, as someone has said, "We can look back on the past 240 years with the utmost pride and amazement at what this unlikely nation has achieved; and this was due to nothing but the fertile ground of the Spirit of Liberty within the people.

The Constitution of government, as vital as it is when followed, will never be a substitute for staving off oppression as will the Constitution (spirit) of the people. If we are to keep our freedom, it must come from, not a bias media, not from political party big shots, but the
people's Spirit of Liberty.

Let us together resolve to rekindle that spirit before it is to late to have an effect. As Donald Trump is saying, let's "Make America Great Again." He is talking to you and me, not those others I just mentioned. They don't like him. It will up to us.

Please forward to all you can by any means you wish.

I still have to pinch myself. I can understand why they got away with 9/11; how they managed to switch the attention to Iraq; even how they took Libya – the No.1 country in Africa & just reduced it to rubble. I can understand how they did all this but what I simply cannot get over is how they not only conjured ISIS out of thin air & then serviced it with all of the state-of-the-art firepower but then they did the impossible – while using ISIS as their tool in the Zionist quest to realise Oded Yinon’s 1982 plan to create Greater Israel, the Zionist media had us believe the very terrorist organisation they created WAS NOW OUR NEW ADVERSARY!

This swine Cameron has even hinted new laws have to be brought in because effectively he’s so useless at fighting terrorism. I mean these guys can have their cake & eat it too. All these years we’ve been fighting this so-called war on terror & all it really is is a WAR OF TERROR! Zionists planned & executed 9/11. Without any evidence whatsoever, they would immediately blame Muslims so that America would use it’s military might to take out the 7 Arab/Muslim nations Israel needed to destroy in order to create Greater Israel. It’s so obvious this is the case for one reason – the only country to gain from all this mayhem is Israel but then just to put the icing on the cake General Wesley Clark spills the beans way before any of this has happened. He said the plan all along was to take out 7 countries!

So we have all the evidence under the sun. Small wonder the moment the Zionist controlled media mentioned the name ISIS I said ‘yeah. They’re terrorists alright! ISRAELI ONES!’ I mean it was so obvious there was no thinking needed yet try telling people that we’re the ones who created ISIS? In the end I got so fed up the moment ISIS was mentioned I’d say ‘what the fanatical Islamic terrorist organisation that only kills Arabs & Muslims?’ People would look at me & I’d say ‘aren’t you ever going to wonder why ISIS NEVER ATTACKS ISRAEL?’ It just doesn’t sink in. Even when you show damning evidence of ISIS terrorists receiving medical aid in Israel; Netanyahu visiting them in hospital & then to add salt into the gaping wound the Israelis own up & say…….. & get this……… ‘WE’RE DOING IT FOR HUMANITARIAN REASONS!’ The Israelis are now humanitarians BUT EVERYONE FORGETS ABOUT THE FACT THEY’RE HELPING ISIS TERRORISTS.

Castro

Small wonder Castro’s had enough. I mean he’s telling us something that everyone should know. Apart from Zionists & Jews, if you don’t realise ISIS is an Israeli terrorist organisation then I’m sorry but you’re as good as brain dead.

This link has got all the info you need & more. You’ve got the Wesley Clark interview & the great Ken O’Keefe, one of the few people who goes all the way rightfully pointing the finger firmly at Israel. THIS IS ALL BECAUSE OF THEM whether I’m anti-Semitic or not!

ISIS is receiving funding, aid, weapons, training, and recruits from the United States, Great Britain, Saudi Arabia, and Israel. Although there are some sensational stories coming out of the jewish press about an ISIS holocaust, the Islamic State has never had any intentions of attacking the jewish State. In fact, the military conflicts taking place in the Middle East, and in particular Syria, are all wrapped up in the plot to massively expand the boundaries of Israel. Saudi Arabia, which was founded by jews and is where Wahhabi ISIS originates, is already locked up, and Egypt has recently fallen into line, so only a few more loose ends need to be tied up.

Loss of shuttle bus isolating Edmonton seniors
CBC - Loss of shuttle bus isolating Edmonton seniors

Residents at a seniors' residence in east Edmonton say the loss of a shuttle bus stop leaves them without a vital link to the outside world
Route 307 used to stop in front of Gateway Manor at 4215 102 Avenue. Recently, the stop was removed due to low ridership.
The nearest bus stop is now several blocks away. Not an easy walk for people with mobility issues, especially in the winter, residents say.
"At 30-below, with a walker or a cane or anything like that - how you going to haul your groceries?" George Mann asked.
"Seventy-five or 80-years-old, you slip and fall and break a bone... we don't heal like you young people do anymore."
Mary McVeeters used the bus to get to the doctor and go shopping.
"I think the people who decided to take [the stop] away didn't realize they're going to get old themselves and then they're going to have to use a walker or a cane or a wheelchair.
Residents have discussed the issue with the city and hope they can find a solution before snow and ice make it difficult to walk outside. They would accept fewer runs of the bus each day, as long as it stopped in front of Gateway Manor.
Ben Henderson, city councillor for the area, said the city has to balance ridership numbers with the need to provide vital services. He is working with Edmonton Transit on a solution.
"If we want people to be able to function and to continue to live in this city and be able to live well, then we're going to have to make sure that transit's available to them in a way they can actually use it," he said.
Until the bus comes back, residents at Gateway Manor say they will cut back on their outings and stay at home.

Public School Students Are the New Inmates in the American Police State

Public School Students Are the New Inmates in the American Police State

In the American police state, you’re either a prisoner or a prison bureaucrat

Public School Students Are the New Inmates in the American Police State
by John W. Whitehead | Rutherford Institute | September 15, 2015
“Every day in communities across the United States, children and adolescents spend the majority of their waking hours in schools that have increasingly come to resemble places of detention more than places of learning. From metal detectors to drug tests, from increased policing to all-seeing electronic surveillance, the public schools of the twenty-first century reflect a society that has become fixated on crime, security and violence.”—Investigative journalist Annette Fuentes

In the American police state, you’re either a prisoner (shackled, controlled, monitored, ordered about, limited in what you can do and say, your life not your own) or a prison bureaucrat (police officer, judge, jailer, spy, profiteer, etc.).
Indeed, at a time when we are all viewed as suspects, there are so many ways in which a person can be branded a criminal for violating any number of laws, regulations or policies. Even if you haven’t knowingly violated any laws, there is still a myriad of ways in which you can run afoul of the police state and end up on the wrong side of a jail cell.
Unfortunately, when you’re a child in the American police state, life is that much worse.
Microcosms of the police state, America’s public schools contain almost every aspect of the militarized, intolerant, senseless, overcriminalized, legalistic, surveillance-riddled, totalitarian landscape that plagues those of us on the “outside.”
From the moment a child enters one of the nation’s 98,000 public schools to the moment she graduates, she will be exposed to a steady diet of draconian zero tolerance policies that criminalize childish behavior, overreaching anti-bullying statutes that criminalize speech, school resource officers (police) tasked with disciplining and/or arresting so-called “disorderly” students, standardized testing that emphasizes rote answers over critical thinking, politically correct mindsets that teach young people to censor themselves and those around them, and extensive biometric and surveillance systems that, coupled with the rest, acclimate young people to a world in which they have no freedom of thought, speech or movement.
If your child is fortunate enough to survive his encounter with the public schools, you should count yourself fortunate.
Most students are not so lucky.
By the time the average young person in America finishes their public school education, nearly one out of every three of them will have been arrested.
More than 3 million students are suspended or expelled from schools every year, often for minor misbehavior, such as “disruptive behavior” or “insubordination.” Black students are three times more likely than white students to face suspension and expulsion.
For instance, a Virginia sixth grader, the son of two school teachers and a member of the school’s gifted program, was suspended for a year after school officials found a leaf (likely a maple leaf) in his backpack that they suspected was marijuana. Despite the fact that the leaf in question was not marijuana (a fact that officials knew almost immediately), the 11-year-old was still kicked out of school, charged with marijuana possession in juvenile court, enrolled in an alternative school away from his friends, subjected to twice-daily searches for drugs, and forced to be evaluated for substance abuse problems.
As the Washington Post warns: “It doesn’t matter if your son or daughter brings a real pot leaf to school, or if he brings something that looks like a pot leaf—okra, tomato, maple, buckeye, etc. If your kid calls it marijuana as a joke, or if another kid thinks it might be marijuana, that’s grounds for expulsion.”
Many state laws require that schools notify law enforcement whenever a student is found with an “imitation controlled substance,” basically anything that look likes a drug but isn’t actually illegal. As a result, students have been suspended for bringing to school household spices such as oregano, breath mints, birth control pills and powdered sugar.
It’s not just look-alike drugs that can get a student in trouble under school zero tolerance policies. Look-alike weapons (toy guns—even Lego-sized ones, hand-drawn pictures of guns, pencils twirled in a “threatening” manner, imaginary bows and arrows, even fingers positioned like guns) can also land a student in detention.
Acts of kindness, concern or basic manners can also result in suspensions. One 13-year-old was given detention for exposing the school to “liability” by sharing his lunch with a hungry friend. A third grader was suspended for shaving her head in sympathy for a friend who had lost her hair to chemotherapy. And then there was the high school senior who wassuspended for saying “bless you” after a fellow classmate sneezed.
Unfortunately, while these may appear to be isolated incidents, they are indicative of a nationwide phenomenon in which children are treated like suspects and criminals, especially within the public schools.
The schools have become a microcosm of the American police state, right down to the host of surveillance technologies, including video cameras, finger and palm scanners, iris scanners, as well as RFID and GPS tracking devices, employed to keep constant watch over their student bodies.
Making matters worse are the police.
Students accused of being disorderly or noncompliant have a difficult enough time navigating the bureaucracy of school boards, but when you bring the police into the picture, after-school detention and visits to the principal’s office are transformed into punishments such as misdemeanor tickets, juvenile court, handcuffs, tasers and even prison terms.
In the absence of school-appropriate guidelines, police are more and more “stepping in to deal with minor rulebreaking—sagging pants, disrespectful comments, brief physical skirmishes. What previously might have resulted in a detention or a visit to the principal’s office was replaced with excruciating pain and temporary blindness, often followed by a trip to the courthouse.”
Thanks to a combination of media hype, political pandering and financial incentives, the use of armed police officers to patrol school hallways has risen dramatically in the years since the Columbine school shooting (nearly 20,000 by 2003). Funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, these school resource officers (SROs) have become de facto wardens in the elementary, middle and high schools, doling out their own brand of justice to the so-called “criminals” in their midst with the help of tasers, pepperspray, batons and brute force.
The horror stories are legion.
One SRO is accused of punching a 13-year-old student in the face for cutting the cafeteria line. That same cop put another student in a chokehold a week later, allegedly knocking the student unconscious and causing a brain injury. In Pennsylvania, a student was tased after ignoring an order to put his cell phone away.
Defending the use of handcuffs and pepper spray to subdue students, one Alabama police department reasoned that if they can employ such tactics on young people away from school, they should also be permitted to do so on campus.
Now advocates for such harsh police tactics and weaponry will tell you that school safety should be our first priority lest we find ourselves with another Sandy Hook. What they will not tell you is that such shootings are rare. As one congressional report found, the schools are, generally speaking, safe places for children.
In their zeal to crack down on guns and lock down the schools, these cheerleaders for police state tactics in the schools might also fail to mention the lucrative, multi-million dollar deals being cut with military contractors such as Taser International to equip these school cops with tasers, tanks, rifles and $100,000 shooting detection systems.
Indeed, the transformation of hometown police departments into extensions of the military has been mirrored in the public schools, where school police have been gifted with high-powered M16 rifles, MRAP armored vehicles, grenade launchers, and other military gear. One Texas school district even boasts its own 12-member SWAT team.
According to one law review article on the school-to-prison pipeline, “Many school districts have formed their own police departments, some so large they rival the forces of major United States cities in size. For example, the safety division in New York City’s public schools is so large that if it were a local police department, it would be the fifth-largest police force in the country.”
The ramifications are far-reaching.
The term “school-to-prison pipeline” refers to a phenomenon in which children who are suspended or expelled from school have a greater likelihood of ending up in jail. One study found that “being suspended or expelled made a student nearlythree times more likely to come into contact with the juvenile justice system within the next year.”
Not content to add police to their employee rosters, the schools have also come to resemble prisons, complete with surveillance cameras, metal detectors, drug-sniffing dogs, random locker searches and active shooter drills. The Detroit public schools boast a “‘$5.6 million 23,000-sq ft. state of the art Command Center’ and ‘$41.7 million district-wide security initiative’ including metal detectors and ID system where visitors’ names are checked against the sex offender registry.”
As if it weren’t bad enough that the nation’s schools have come to resemble prisons, the government is also contracting with private prisons to lock up our young people for behavior that once would have merited a stern lecture. Nearly 40 percent of those young people who are arrested will serve time in a private prison, where the emphasis is on making profits for large megacorporations above all else.
Private prisons, the largest among them being GEO and the Corrections Corporation of America, profit by taking over a state’s prison population for a fee. Many states, under contract with these private prisons, agree to keep the prisons full, which in turn results in more Americans being arrested, found guilty and jailed for nonviolent “crimes” such as holding Bible studies in their back yard. As the Washington Post points out, “With the growing influence of the prison lobby, the nation is, in effect, commoditizing human bodies for an industry in militant pursuit of profit… The influence of private prisons creates a system that trades money for human freedom, often at the expense of the nation’s most vulnerable populations: children, immigrants and the poor.”
This profit-driven system of incarceration has also given rise to a growth in juvenile prisons and financial incentives for jailing young people. Indeed, young people have become easy targets for the private prison industry, which profits from criminalizing childish behavior and jailing young people. For instance, two Pennsylvania judges made headlines when it was revealed that they had been conspiring with two businessmen in a $2.6 million “kids for cash” scandal that resulted in more than 2500 children being found guilty and jailed in for-profit private prisons.
It has been said that America’s schools are the training ground for future generations. Instead of raising up a generation of freedom fighters, however, we seem to be busy churning out newly minted citizens of the American police state who are being taught the hard way what it means to comply, fear and march in lockstep with the government’s dictates.
As I point out in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People, with every school police raid and overzealous punishment that is carried out in the name of school safety, the lesson being imparted is that Americans—especially young people—have no rights at all against the state or the police.
I’ll conclude with one hopeful anecdote about a Philadelphia school dubbed the “Jones Jail” because of its bad reputation for violence among the student body. Situated in a desperately poor and dangerous part of the city, the John Paul Jones Middle School’s student body had grown up among drug users, drug peddlers, prostitutes and gun violence. “By middle school,” reports The Atlantic, most of these students “have witnessed more violence than most Americans who didn’t serve in a war ever will.”
According to investigative reporters Jeff Deeney, “School police officers patrolled the building at John Paul Jones, andchildren were routinely submitted to scans with metal detecting wands. All the windows were covered in metal grating and one room that held computers even had thick iron prison bars on its exterior… Every day… [police] would set up a perimeter of police officers on the blocks around the school, and those police were there to protect neighbors from the children, not to protect the children from the neighborhood.”
In other words, John Paul Jones, one of the city’s most dangerous schools, was a perfect example of the school-to-prison, police state apparatus at work among the nation’s youngest and most impressionable citizens.
When management of John Paul Jones was taken over by a charter school that opted to de-escalate the police state presence, stripping away the metal detectors and barred windows, local police protested. In fact, they showed up wearing Kevlar vests. Nevertheless, school officials remained determined to do away with institutional control and surveillance, as well as aggressive security guards, and focus on noncoercive, nonviolent conflict resolution with an emphasis on student empowerment, relationship building and anger management.
The result: a 90% drop in serious incidents—drug sales, weapons, assaults, rapes—in one year alone. As one fifth-grader remarked on the changes, “There are no more fights. There are no more police. That’s better for the community.”
The lesson for the rest of us is this: you not only get what you pay for, but you reap what you sow.
If you want a nation of criminals, treat the citizenry like criminals.
If you want young people who grow up seeing themselves as prisoners, run the schools like prisons.
But if you want to raise up a generation of freedom fighters, who will actually operate with justice, fairness, accountability and equality towards each other and their government, then run the schools like freedom forums. Remove the metal detectors and surveillance cameras, re-assign the cops elsewhere, and start treating our nation’s young people like citizens of a republic and not inmates in a police state.

VA Secretary and LA Mayor Celebrate

VA Secretary and LA Mayor Celebrate

By Robert Rosebrock on September 10, 2015

Mayor-Eric-Garcetti
LOS ANGELES – Soon after VA Secretary Robert A. McDonald and LA Mayor Eric Garcetti announced they would not be able to end Veteran homelessness in Los Angeles by the end of the year as promised, it was rumored they were spotted at a local drinking establishment celebrating.
The two seemed overly joyous as they downed Margaritas nearly as fast as the bartender could make them while hugging and high-fiving each other and buying rounds of drinks for amused patrons.
Fascinated by their enthusiastic behavior, the bartender asked what they were celebrating and the Mayor gloated: “We just finished a jigsaw puzzle and it only took us two months to complete.”
“Two months!” blurted the bartender.  “That’s ridiculous!  It shouldn’t take anyone that long!”
Incensed by the bartender’s dismissive attitude, VA Secretary McDonald brashly boasted: “Hey dude, the puzzle box said ‘two to four years.’ “
And now you know the rest of the story.
God Bless America and the Veterans Revolution!

Pope Francis: God Has Instructed Me to Revise the Ten Commandments

Posted a couple of months ago during the Pope's visit to South America, but still relevant today, in light of his upcoming visit to the United States later this month. The question I have is, which of the 'Gods' of the Universe is the Pope referring to who instructed him to revise the Ten Commandments?

GUAYAQUIL, Ec. – Pope Francis kicked off the start of a three-nation trip across South America today with his first mass, with over a million Ecuadorians in attendance, in the coastal city of Guayaquil. Delivering the mass in Spanish, the Pope spoke about the importance of family in modern society, saying, “It needs to be helped and strengthened, lest we lose our proper sense of the services which society as a whole provides.”
During his sermon, Pope Francis announced to Christians around the world that God had called upon him, instructing him “to revise the most sacred of texts, the Ten Commandments.” Given to the Israelites by God himself at Mount Sinai, the Commandments include instructions for worship and list several prohibited practices.
Pope Francis said Christians around the world are “faced with ever-increasing temptations brought on by the evils of modern society.” The Pope said the updated Commandments reflect the changing times and include some minor rewording of the existing rules as well as the addition of two new Commandments.
The Fourth Commandment, which advocates that proper respect be shown towards one’s parents, has been reworded in order to include children raised by same-sex parents. Pope Francis said the Seventh Commandment, prohibiting adultery and, among other things, homosexuality, has been removed entirely, as instructed by God, in order to extend “God’s grace to all His children.”
Addressing the inclusion of the new Commandments, which bring the total number to eleven, Pope Francis praised the rapid growth of technology in the digital age but said “progress comes at a price.” The new Fifth Commandment, which replaces the prohibition of adultery, forbids all aspects of genetic engineering and bans the consumption of genetically modified foods.
Lastly, the Eleventh Commandment disallows personal idolization and the glorification of one’s self over God. Using the Kardashians, a highly publicized celebrity family, as an example, Pope Francis said, “Selfies are an abomination in the eyes of our Lord.”

Six ‘Lost’ Off-Grid Lessons From The Amish

When the editors of Off The Grid News asked if I was interested in going to visit one of the local Amish farms to craft a piece about homesteading skills we should all be learning, I jumped at the opportunity. I pulled on my favorite cowboy boots and headed out in the county to enjoy some of Alma’s amazing homemade cookies while talking off-grid living in our modern world with her farrier husband and some local Amish farmers.
Sadly, many of the traditional homesteading skills rural folks in my region once considered merely necessary daily tasks have been lost. Knowing how to grow you own food, preserve your harvest, raise and “doctor” livestock, and care for minor physical ailments are not only handy self-reliant skills for off-the-grid families, but survival attributes which could one day save your life.
My Amish friend, Ezra, said that over the course of the past year or so, more and more folks that routinely engage the services of his community have mentioned the disturbing events going on in the world and asked for tips to help them rediscover the Appalachian ways of the past and traditional homesteading skills.
Amish Homesteading Skills
1. How to Sew by Hand
2. How to Farm Without Machines
3. How to Take Advantage of Off-Grid Power
4. How to Identify Plants and Trees
5. How to Use Hand Tools
6. How to Homeschool

Dow down amid fears of interest-rate hike

Dow down amid fears of interest-rate hike

Selloff in Chinese market resumed overnight

NEW YORK – The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down Monday as the selloff in the Chinese stock market resumed amid investors feared a hike in interest rates this week by the Federal Reserve. The Dow was off more than 62 points, finishing at 16,370.96.
A rise in interest rates could send trigger a global debt crisis as public and private debt levels reach extreme levels across all major regions of the global economy, warned Claudio Borio, the chief economist for the Bank for International Settlements in Geneva, reported London Telegraph economic reporter Ambrose Evans-Pritchard.
When the Federal Open Market Meeting, FOMC, concludes this Thursday, investors will finally have the answer to the much pondered question of whether or not the Federal Reserve will resume raising interest rates.

Fed Chairman Janet Yellen has halted the Fed’s policy of Quantitative Easing, or QE, through which it bought trillions of dollars of U.S. Treasury debt to keep interest rates at or near zero.
Economist John Williams, editor of the widely followed financial blog Shadow Stats, points out in the Sept. 1 edition of his subscription newsletter that a rate increase could occur yet this year.
“In a close call, the FOMC will likely boost rates, irrespective of the weakening economy,” Williams predicts. “If pressures to delay the rate hike prevail, markets likely face troubling questions as to what really is frightening the Fed.”
Williams cautions that if the Fed does not increase rates, the decision may stem from more than a concern that it would impact the stock market.
“If, however, the Fed does not move, such will not be due to economic weakness,” Williams wrote. “It will be because the Fed still deems the post-2008 financial system to be too fragile and vulnerable, unstable.”
That precisely is the dilemma the Fed faces, Williams explains. A decision to raise rates may depress the stock market, because investors will anticipate higher rates will slow economic growth. But a decision not to raise rates could also depress the stock market, because the Fed will have signaled to investors a concern that a still-weak economy continues to need interest rates at zero to boost lagging economic growth.
“Given a day or two following the FOMC meeting, conceivably, market reaction could be even more-violently negative than anticipated with a rate hike, if the central bank does not act,” Williams stressed.
China’s stock market resumes slide
Investors worldwide fear the miracle of Chinese economic growth may have come to an end.
On Monday, the Shanghai stock market posted its biggest fall in three weeks, closing 2.7 percent down, after key economic indicators, including factory output data, reported weak.
Reuters reported Chinese government authorities, desperate to use every available government mechanism to stimulate a lagging economy, have seized up to 1 trillion yuan ($157 billion) from local governments that failed to use their budget allocations.
WND reported Aug. 26 that in an unprecedented move to prop up the yuan, China dumped more than $100 billion in U.S. Treasuries during two weeks in August, approximately 8 percent of the estimated $1.27 trillion in foreign-reserve currency it held at end of June.
