When
I was a kid, we used to sing this holiday song that plays on the
"challenges" kids have with pronunciation when they lose their
front baby teeth:
"All I want for Christmas
is my two front teeth,
My two front teeth, my two front teeth.
All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth
Then I could wish you "Merwy Chrithmath!"
Well,
a grown-up version of that song for MANY people could be on concerning
bowel movements:
"All I want for Christmas
is a good BM,
A good BM, a good BM.
All I want for Christmas is a good BM.
Then I could stop all this grunting."
Does that include you?
Hopefully
you got a chuckle out of that, but the point is, constipation is serious
stuff.
It
affects nearly 1 out of every 3 people in the US, and we spend over $725
million a year on laxatives. That's a LOT of blocked up people!
How
much do you spend on laxatives.
Constipation
has been defined in different ways over the years, but here are the most
current criteria -- constipation is having two or more of the following:
- Straining with at least 1
out of every 4 bowel movements
- Lumpy or hard stools at least 1 out of every 4 times
- Sensation of "incomplete evacuation" (putting it bluntly, after
going to the bathroom, you feel like there's still poop in there but it
won't come out) at least 25% of the time
- Sensation of an obstruction (blockage) at least 25% of the time when you
try to have a bowel movement
- You must rely on "manual maneuvers" to help along at least 1
out of 4 bowel movements (please don't ask me to elaborate on that one)
- Fewer than 3 bowel movements a week
- Hard stools unless you use laxatives
If
you see yourself in those statements....yup, welcome to the land of the
constipated.
But it's normal for
me!
In
my line of work I talk about bowel habits with people. A LOT. Trust me,
I've heard it ALL.
And
the number one "defense" people use when I bring up the subject
of constipation is, "Well, that's what's normal for me! I just
don't go to the bathroom every day."
Well,
it may be "typical" for you, but it's not normal and it most
definitely isn't healthy! Ultimately, it could be fatal. And
anything that could kill you isn't good.
Consider
this:
You eat at least 3 times a day, 7 days a week, for a total of 21 meals. If
you're only having 2 or 3 bowel movements a week or even 5 or 6, you do the
math.
Face
the facts--there's a lot of stuff stuck inside you that should not be there.
And
that can have some hefty consequences far beyond spending several
non-productive hours on the throne.
Feces
clogging your colon wall can encourage the development of
"pockets" in the intestinal wall (otherwise known as
diverticulosis) or cause any "pockets" you already have created
to become infected (aka: a diverticulitis attack).
The
harmful bacteria and toxins in your poop buildup can eat away at the
intestinal wall and make it porous--called leaky gut syndrome. When your
gut wall is leaky, dangerous toxins can seep out into your bloodstream and
abdominal cavity, making you sick and possibly even killing you.
Plus,
this "internal brown wallpaper" can encourage harmful bacterial
overgrowth (called dysbiosis) which can weaken your immune system, making
you more susceptible to every virus and infection around.
So
my friend, 2-5 BMs in a week may be "normal" for you, but it
ain't good.
What's behind yours?
If
you want to finally say goodbye to constipation forever, you need to stop
making laxative companies richer and instead look at what's BEHIND (no pun
intended) YOUR constipation.
Although
constipation can commonly be caused by lack of exercise, certain
medications and not drinking enough water, far and away the biggest cause
is DIET.
And
this is a double-edged sword.
First
of all, many people regularly eat smorgasbord-type meals that are SO
difficult for your body to digest that Hulk Hogan could not push a BM out
of you if he had to.
And
secondly, our heavy reliance on processed and fast foods (with very few
fruits, vegetables and whole grains) means we are severely lacking in the
fiber that is so vital for regular bowel function and easy BMs.
Note
that this not unique to the US--it can happen to people from all parts of
the world. Here's what I mean:
Researcher
Dennis Burkitt, MD, studied the bowel habits of African natives
living in their traditional small villages and towns, and compared them
with those who had relocated to large metropolitan cities.
Dr.
Burkitt found that the people in the villages who ate their simple,
traditional diet of locally grown foods produced an average of a pound of
feces each day, and their bowel movements were effortless.
However,
those people who moved to the cities, who then had adopted a more
Western-type modern diet did not fare as well on the "poop-o-meter."
They
produced only about 5 ounces of feces with each "sitting" and
they were only "sitting" every 2-3 days instead of every day.
Moral
of the story:
It doesn't matter who you are or where you're from... today's modern foods
and meals will seriously block you up.
Get your holiday wish
If
your neighbors think you're a power lifter because they can hear your
grunting from next door, or if Jimmy Carter was president last time you had
a decent BM, then it's time to admit that your diet could use a tune-up.
Then
DO something about it!
All
it takes is incorporating more fiber-rich real foods into your diet and
structuring ALL of your meals so your body can effectively break them down.
I can help you every step
of the way with the Great Taste No Pain system.
Great Taste No Pain shows you what
foods to eat (and what foods to pair together) to keep your digestion
smooth, nutrient absorption high and acid wastes low. Plus it's loaded with

Restore your critical
flora balance too
As
I mentioned above, your friendly gut
flora takes a major hit when you're constipated.
And
since that's where 70-80% of your immune system resides, you want to make
sure and restore that balance.
The
good news is that it's a breeze to make sure your intestinal flora is
healthy and strong. A top-shelf probiotic supplement is all it takes.

Sherry:
My husband & I (age 68
& 62 respectively) have both been on your Great Taste No Pain
eating program for the past 2 weeks and we are really feeling the benefits
of it already.
My husband has had many years
of Diverticulitis and Constipation issues but since eating this way, they
are no more!
We are both very 'regular' and
have more energy than previously.
We've tried being Vegetarian,
and other 'diets' or eating plans over the years but hubby has always done
them under sufferance - now with Great Taste No Pain
he's happy to eat this way and asking me about how to do this or that and
what goes with this or that :)
We are recommending it to others
because it is easy once you get into it. We highly recommend it to anyone!
Thank you Sherry - it's a
blessing!
