Essential Nutrients You Are NOT Getting


Breaking news just in...
Chances are excellent that you're starving.
Now, you're probably raising your eyebrows and thinking something like:
"Huh? Sherry, I eat 3 meals a day plus snacks."
"No I'm not. I had a big breakfast."
"Starving? If anything, I eat TOO much."
"You feeling OK today, Sher?"

So why the heck am I saying you're starving?
Well, although many people in the US and other developed countries aren't "lacking food," a huge percentage of what they eat has the nutritional value of shredded sneakers.
And the resulting absence of nutrients not only ruins your health but can be compared to starvation!
Whatcha need?
Research has shown that there are 44 essential nutrients that you MUST get from your environment (food or supplements):
21 minerals
13 vitamins
8 amino acids
2 essential fatty acids

And for each nutrient, there are 3 possible levels you can have -- too much (excess or toxicity), too little (deficiency) or just right (optimal).
The most common problem in the US and most other countries around the world that eat a Western-type diet is: Deficiency.
That might sound odd to you, since the average person today is OVERweight.  How could they be deficient in so many nutrients considering how much food they eat?
The answer: Junk calories and poor nutrient absorption.
The hefty price of nutrient deficiency
Lacking nutrients your body needs will inevitably bring about physical deterioration (also known as degeneration). If degeneration is allowed to progress long enough it will eventually lead to chronic diseases and end in death. Often, a nasty, ugly, painful, undignified death.
That's not my opinion -- it's a proven scientific fact.
What does degeneration look like in your body?
Degeneration can take the form of cardiovascular disease, cancer, type II diabetes, arthritis, MS, asthma and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), among other things.
Certainly nothing to play around with or ignore.
We're seriously deficient
Two US governmental surveys (the Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the Nationwide Food Consumption Survey) measured intake of 13 essential nutrients in tens of thousands of people. They found that sodium was the ONLY nutrient that people got enough of -- all others were deficient!
Sodium is SALT.
Of course -- with all the high-sodium processed foods, French fries loaded with salt and ketchup that Americans eat, how could we possibly be low in sodium?
 

The standard poorly combined Western diet full of processed foods and lacking in fresh fruits and vegetables is far and away the main cause of our chronic nutritional deficiencies.
Here's why:
1) Nutrients are destroyed during food processing
Processed foods start out as real food, but then they're completely violated through heating, bleaching, drying, fragmenting, freeze drying, evaporating, etc. until they in no way resemble real food in appearance OR nutrient-wise.
Some low-grade vitamins and nutrients may be added in at the end of processing (especially with products like kids' cereals), but they're not nearly the same quantity or quality as those that occurred naturally in the food (and got destroyed).
Here's a startling illustration. This is a list of some of the nutrients lost from whole wheat grains when they're processed into white flour:

With all the white bread, hamburger rolls, bagels, donuts, cakes, pies and other flour-based foods we eat by the truckload, is it any wonder we're nutritionally deficient?
2) A body that's too acidic can't absorb nutrients
Badly combined foods and processed foods are extremely acid-forming to your body. When your body's pH is acidic (called acidosis) you cannot effectively absorb nutrients.
So it matters not that you might take the best multi-vitamin on the market. Most of it is likely flowing out of you as expensive urine.
And you continue to be nutritionally deficient with your cells degenerating by the day.
 

3) Too much stomach acid destroys nutrients, too
Eating meals that are difficult for your body to break down results in overproduction of acid in your stomach...and that excess acid obliterates most or all of the nutrients in your foods.
So even if you're eating the best healthy, organic foods from the finest restaurants, if you're combining the wrong foods together and jacking up your stomach acid production, you might as well be eating sawdust.
 

Get AND keep the nutrients you need
In order to make sure you get the nutrients you need to prevent degeneration and chronic disease, it's essential to:
1- Eat nutritious (not processed) foods to begin with and
2- Keep acid low in your system so those nutrients won't get destroyed

This is what I teach in the Great Taste No Pain system. And I make it so easy, a 10 year old could teach it after reading it.

The rest of the story -- degeneration can be reversed!
If you've eaten foods that come in shiny colorful boxes, bags, cans and bottles for years, (and perhaps, your whole life), chances are good that your body has its fair share of degeneration already.
Even though physical degeneration is scary, here is some more great news: It can be counteracted and many times even REVERSED.
Impressive work is currently being done using essential fatty acids (EFAs) in the treatment of degenerative diseases. Many people are being relieved of these conditions, even when their illnesses have resisted the all-too-typical treatments of drugs, surgery and radiation.
