On Monday, Aug. 7th, the Moon will pass through the shadow of Earth, slightly off-center, producing a partial lunar eclipse. At maximum (1820 UT), about 25% of the lunar disk will be in shadow.

Sky watchers in the Americas will see ... just an ordinary full Moon, completely illuminated.  According to folklore, it's the Sturgeon Moon, named by Native American tribes of the Great Lakes who caught lots of these fish during the month of August. Lake sturgeon are considered to be living fossils because they have survived virtually unchanged for more than 150 million years. 

A full Moon named after an ancient slimy fish? It's prettier than it sounds.

A top official of the National Security Council was fired last month after arguing in a memo that President Trump is under sustained attack from subversive forces both within and outside the government who are deploying Maoist tactics to defeat President Trump’s nationalist agenda.

His dismissal marks the latest victory by National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster in the ongoing war within Trump’s White House between those who believe that the president is under threat from dark forces plotting to undermine him, and those like McMaster who dismiss this as conspiratorial thinking.

Rich Higgins, a former Pentagon official who served in the NSC’s strategic-planning office as a director for strategic planning, was let go on July 21. Higgins’s memo describes supposed domestic and international threats to Trump’s presidency, including globalists, bankers, the “deep state,” and Islamists. The memo characterizes the Russia story as a plot to sabotage Trump’s nationalist agenda. It asserts that globalists and Islamists are seeking to destroy America. The memo also includes a set of recommendations, arguing that the problem constitutes a national-security priority.

“Globalists and Islamists recognize that for their visions to succeed, America, both as an ideal and as a national and political identity, must be destroyed,” the memo warns. It argues that this has led “Islamists [to] ally with cultural Marxists,” but that in the long run, “Islamists will co-opt the movement in its entirety.”

Higgins wrote the memo in late May, and at some point afterwards it began circulating among people outside the White House associated with the Trump campaign to whom Higgins had given it.

Higgins, according to another source with direct knowledge of the incident, was called into the White House Counsel’s office the week before last and asked about the memo. On July 21, the Friday of that week, he was informed by McMaster’s deputy Ricky Waddell that he was losing his job.

NSC spokesman Michael Anton declined to comment on Higgins’s firing, saying that the White House does not comment on internal personnel matters.

Few could legitimately argue that former President Barack Obama’s attitude toward border security was anything short of lax, but as has been said countless times since the November election, there is a new sheriff in town and things are being run differently now.

According to a report from Judicial Watch, the administration of President Donald Trump is allowing Customs and Border Patrol officials to thoroughly screen all cargo trucks entering the U.S. through the southern border with Mexico, something that was seemingly discouraged or not permitted during Obama’s tenure.

“We felt like we were the welcoming committee and not like we were guarding our borders,” explained U.S. Customs agent Patricia Cramer, who is also president of the Arizona chapter of the agency employee’s union, according to Judicial Watch.

“The order was to facilitate traffic, not to stop any illegal drugs from entering the country,” added Cramer. “We want to enforce the law. That’s what we signed up for.”

Cramer, a K9 handler at the Nogales port of entry in Arizona, stated that massive amounts of illegal drugs are smuggled across the border while hidden inside of cargo trucks, trucks that used to generally be waved through but now undergo radiation and X-ray screening, sometimes even having their cargo thoroughly searched if the truck, driver or load raises any suspicions.

The change is said to have greatly angered the Mexican drug cartels that use the trucks to smuggle their illicit cargo across the border. The cartels quickly became aware of the shift in policy due to their keeping a close and constant vigil on border crossing checkpoints through the use of spotters stationed nearby at all times.

“They know if we’re on the job, the level of screening that we’re conducting,” stated Cramer. “The cartels watch us all the time. They see everything.”

It is worth noting that it isn’t only drugs that are being smuggled across the border hidden inside of cargo trucks, but also money and weapons. And, of course, there are illegal immigrants at the mercy of traffickers and truck drivers on the take, some of whom don’t survive the illegal cross-border excursions.

The change Judicial Watch is describing should never should have needed to occur, as our Customs and Border Patrol agents should have been permitted to thoroughly scan and search each and every vehicle crossing the border at any given time. That’s their job, yet that is precisely what they weren’t allowed to do under Obama.

Thankfully, things have changed now, and this is just one more step toward securing our border and protecting our country, all while taking a bite out of the profits of the drug cartels with each illicit discovery and seizure.

While some of President Trump’s supporters are happy to see the last of the establishment-loyal Reince Priebus as White House Chief of Staff, others are not so thrilled with the man who is taking his place. 

Gen. John Kelly, by all accounts, was doing a bang-up job as director of Homeland Security, and he might bring the discipline that the White House needs right now. On the other hand, a couple of recent stories shed light on some major concerns about the man who will now control Trump’s day-to-day agenda. Kelly may not be beholden to the Republican textbook…but is he loyal to the ideology of the president he serves?

According to a recent story in The New Yorker, Gen. Kelly spoke two weeks ago at a private meeting with current and former members of the U.S. national security community in Aspen, Colorado. At that meeting, say sources, Kelly said that he had spoken long and often with the president about his proposed border wall and was fairly certain he had persuaded Trump to back off his campaign promise to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

“Instead,” the piece stated, “the use of sophisticated monitoring technology, air surveillance, and fencing could secure the border with what Trump could start calling a ‘barrier.’

“To the officials in the room, it was a fascinating admission,” The New Yorker continued. “Kelly seemed to be suggesting that he was one of the few people who might be able to tame Trump and get him to back off some of his most cartoonish policy ideas, even the ones that were core campaign promises.”

The other story comes from CNN, so take it with a grain of salt. According to the network, two sources said that after President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, Gen. Kelly was so outraged by the insulting, long-distance method of the firing that he called Comey and said he was thinking about resigning himself in protest. 

(WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE?  AN IMMATURE 'GENERAL' WHO HAS REVEALED TO THE PEOPLE WHOSE SIDE HE SERVES!  KELLY, BY SUPPORTING COMEY, IS ON THE SIDE OF THE OBAMAS/CLINTONISTAS CRIME SYNDICATE.   'SIR' - IF YOU ARE SUPPORTING COMEY, MUELLER AND BRENNAN, THEN YOU SHOULD BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY.  AMERICA - WAKE UP!!!!)

From CNN:

“John was angry and hurt by what he saw and the way (Comey) was treated,” one of the sources said.  Comey learned of his dismissal on May 9 from televisions tuned to the news as he was addressing the workforce at the FBI office in Los Angeles, law enforcement sources said at the time.

Comey made a joke about it to lighten the mood and called his office to get confirmation.

Comey, who took Kelly’s call while traveling back from Los Angeles to Washington, responded to Kelly by telling him not to resign, one of the sources said.

The sources said Comey and Kelly are not close friends but that they had a 'professional relationship' and 'a deep mutual respect' for each other.

Are these red flags?  

We’ll wait to reserve judgement. Trump doesn’t necessarily benefit by surrounding himself with 'yes' men, so it doesn’t concern us that Kelly differs from the president on this policy or that one. It merely raises the question of whether or not Kelly is truly “Team Trump.” 

The president MUST have loyal supporters in the White House if he is to overcome the astonishing opposition to his agenda. 

If Kelly can be a voice of reason to counteract Trump’s tendency towards pure, instinctual reaction, that’s a good thing. 

If, on the other hand, Kelly is there to stifle the president with tiresome echoes of stagnant deep-state thought, the administration is in no better shape than it was last week.

And neither are the people of this nation or the nation.

Very sad indeed.

On Tuesday, the Justice Department announced how many illegal aliens are currently clogging American jail cells — and the cost to taxpayers is absolutely head-spinning.

“Out of the 187,855 inmates in (federal) custody, 42,034 are foreign-born,” according to the report, which was obtained by The Horn News.

That’s almost one-in-four. Tens of thousands of prisoners, who committed felonies, are in this country illegally. They committed a serious crime, got sent to the federal pen… and they’re costing taxpayers billions of dollars each year.

Worse, that just includes prisoners held in jails run by the federal Bureau of Prisons – the 42,034 doesn’t count most prisoners in state, city, or county prisons.

At least now we know the size of the problem. The Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security has to produce a report on criminal aliens four times a year, thanks to an executive order signed by Donald Trump.

The report doesn’t detail the kinds of crimes these criminal, illegal aliens committed. But we can get some idea based on recent headlines:

• Last week, a 31-year-old illegal immigrant sexually assaulted a 65-year-old woman at knife-point, then stole her car. He’d already sexually assaulted another woman, according to police in the sanctuary city of Portland, Oregon. The suspect is a meth addict with mental disorders who has been deported to Mexico 20 separate times.
• In May, a 36-year-old illegal alien robbed a home in Polk County, Florida – but he decided he hadn’t taken enough. He got into bed with the lady of the house, who was asleep. Police say when she woke up, he nearly choked her to death, until another person in the house scared him away. He has already been convicted of five felonies and two misdemeanors but is somehow still in our country. 
  
• In July, in the same Florida county, one illegal immigrant hacked another illegal immigrant to death with a machete. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said, “If they’d have stayed in their home country, in their community…(they both) would be alive and well today.” He told the media that he supports Trump’s immigration enforcement policy.
• In a gory scene this May, a 33-year-old illegal living outside Atlanta stabbed her husband and four of her five children to death. One of the children was younger than two. The woman, Isabel Martinez, had been reported for child abuse in the past and said she had come into contact with a “devil-like spirit.” She sure put her family through Hell.

These are crimes – robberies, rapes, and murders – committed by people who had no business being in the United States. And just like American criminals, they’re ruthless. Being an illegal immigrant won’t save you. Even being family won’t save you.

What’s that? You didn’t read about this in USA Today or see it on NBC News?

CBS News covered the Martinez murder…but didn’t say a word about her immigration status. It just didn’t fit their Open Borders, pro-amnesty agenda.

Here’s another fact that doesn’t fit in with the yellow journalism: It would be cheaper to deport all illegal immigrants than to keep them in the United States. Deportation would save the United States more than $600 billion, according to a new report by the Center for Immigration Studies.

Taking everything into account, the average illegal still costs taxpayers more than $65,000 over his lifetime.

That’s bad enough, but multiply that by at least 11.5 million illegals in this country and it’s a disaster. Since illegals are here illegally, the fact that they take in U.S. taxpayer dollars is another form of robbery.

Deportation is cheaper, according to figures released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The average deportation costs between $5,915 and $10,854.

CIS estimates that there is “a total lifetime fiscal drain of $746.3 billion” for all illegal immigrants, according to the report released on Thursday. But it would cost somewhere between $68 billion and $124 billion to deport all of them.

Don’t get me wrong — not all illegals are “bad people.” A lot of them could probably return legally. But that’s the difference: LEGALLY.

A screening process could keep out the murderers, meth addicts, and schizos.

That’s why we need massive immigration reform — and it looks like at least two senators get it.

Senators Tom Cotton and David Perdue introduced the RAISE Act this week. It would base who gets into the country on merit – whether the immigrant would actually become a productive citizen instead of a drain on the economy.

It would also stop families from bringing distant relatives to the country and reform the abuse-riddled 'refugee' system. The senators estimate that would cut legal immigration by almost half.

Even after that, “That would still mean annual permanent immigration of 500,000–600,000 a year, which is more than any other nation” on the face of the earth, immigration hawk Mark Krikorian wrote at The National Interest.

At least it’s a start.

Trump said the bill watches out for “struggling American families” and “puts America first.”

And the nation’s top cop thinks the bill will save lives. 

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said “the higher entry standards established in this proposal will allow authorities to do a more thorough job reviewing applicants for entry, therefore protecting the security of the U.S. homeland.”

And isn’t that the government’s first job – to protect the home front?
