The media coverage of legal matters takes an extremely parallel path as the path described below regarding Duck Dynasty. The objective in the coverage of legal matters isn't to teach anything like our present reality. The objective is manipulation.
Regarding Duck Dynasty, the manipulation, how ever-so-conveniently engaged at this time of year, is clearly commercial in intent. Behind the corruption of the presentation of the legal matters is, ultimately, the same commercial intent, just through a different avenue.
Down this path, then, reflecting on why Wal-mart, of all businesses, would want to engage in such a stunt (a brilliant hollywood-esque stunt), one answer may be that the economy is so bad that people are figuring out that they actually can live without "christmas." Where the people get through and over that particular addiction, the marketplace is actually rather dramatically different. Remember the vignette, about Acts 16, where Paul goes to Macedonia, and baptizes Lydia, and they are approached by that girl with the very high pitched voice who harasses them with her divination activities? Paul cured that girl of that divination proclivity, which put her "masters" out of business! That got Paul and Silas thrown in jail and whipped! (Then the earthquake that opened the doors to the jail but they didn't try to escape.) This is the mindset we have about this particular time of year. Upsetting the commercial activity is taboo, even "criminal." So, Wal-mart intends to keep the commercialism going, and they've picked a brilliant way to do that. By the time the matter is exposed, which is done very well by the forwarded article, the buying rush for those "last minute shoppers," has already come and gone.
We are so manipulated it's almost humorous. Our "enemy" knows us better than we know ourselves, for the simple reason that the people at the top are us. Think Prodigal.
