Oklahoma Lawmakers Officially Declare Abortion to be Murder

In a resolution that will have little to no effect on actual legal policy in the state, the Oklahoma House of Representatives passed a resolution last week that officially declared abortion to be the murder of an innocent human being. In the resolution, lawmakers in the body – made up of 74 Republicans and 26 Democrats – made it state clear that “all human life is protected by God’s law and the highest laws of the land.”
Introduced to the floor by Rep. Chuck Strohm, a Republican from Jenks, OK, the resolution says: “The Constitution of the United States mandates that no state shall deprive any human being of life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness without due process of law, nor deny any human being within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”
In an interview with the Tulsa World, Strohm said, “No one – not a doctor, not a father or a mother – has rights that allow them to murder an unborn child.”
In his resolution, Oklahoma lawmakers declared: “Every public official in Oklahoma, including but not limited to sheriffs, district attorneys, judges and justices, the Attorney General, and the Governor, is directed to exercise their authority as appropriate in their respective jurisdictions to stop the murder of innocent unborn children by abortion. Whatever the legal consequences of the resolution, if there are any, Oklahoma Republicans have already succeeded in passing some of the strictest abortion laws in the country. Any woman who wishes to have an abortion must undergo mandatory counseling and sit out a 72-hour waiting period before following through on the procedure. Furthermore, health insurance companies who do business through the Obamacare marketplace may only provide abortion coverage if the mother’s life hangs in the balance. All abortions are banned after the 20-week mark unless the mother’s life is in danger.
Some believe that these laws and resolutions are being passed with the express intention of baiting a lawsuit from pro-abortion groups. The hope is that states like Oklahoma will succeed in bringing such a case all the way to the Supreme Court, where the conservative-leaning Justices will see fit to weaken – if not overturn altogether – Roe v. Wade.
Maybe that will happen and maybe it won’t, but in the meantime it’s fun to watch pro-death liberals drive themselves crazy over their “right” to kill their unborn babies. Sooner or later, if any of God’s justice is alive in today’s America, there will come a tipping point, we will wake up as a nation, and realize fully just what it is we’re supporting through our laws and consent.
