Free energy emerging. Quantum Vacuum Energy Extraction. The conversion of universally accessible vacuum energy (dark energy) into usable thermal, electrical and mechanical energy. An almost non-technical introduction for aspiring dummies.
The word "vacuum" is usually given to the space out of which nothing can be taken by known methods. But it is now well known within the theoretical Physics community that this vacuum is not empty; it contains physical objects (dark matter) which our orthodox scientific instrumentation cannot yet see.

This is evidenced within the Theory of General Relativity by the cosmological constant, which goes back to the gravitative action of “mere space”. The term “cosmological constant” indicates that the universe contains huge amounts of space which lead to measurable effects; they influence the universe's rate of expansion.

The crucial question is whether it is now possible to develop practicable methods which allow the extraction of something useful from the universal vacuum, which previously could not be extracted because it was invisible to our relatively primitive instrumentation.

From mass-energy equivalence it is known that physical objects within the vacuum correspond with a certain amount of energy. This leads to the question whether “vacuum energy” (the energy of "empty space”) can be made manifest in the laboratory? The answer is yes, it can. Vacuum energy (dark energy) can be successfully converted into classical mechanical energy.

The energy conversion method described here (pdf - 93 pages) and which is referenced in US Patent No 7,379,286, B2 here (pdf - 21 pages) raises the hope that vacuum energy can be used to supply human civilisation with all the energy it needs. It outlines a practical method to draw energy from the immensity of the multidimensional spaces which form the universe. These are sufficiently vast to be regarded as inexhaustible. The utilisation of this source of cosmic energy involves pollution-free equipment which causes no damage to Earth's natural biosphere.

The Quantum Vacuum Energy Extraction patent cited above is dated the 27th May 2008. The inventors involved are Bernard Haisch of Redwood City, California (USA) and Garrett Moddel of Boulder, Colorado (USA). The assignee is the Jovion Corporation in Menlo Park, California (USA).

The abstract on page 1 of the patent reads as follows: "A system is disclosed for converting energy from the electromagnetic quantum vacuum available at any point in the universe to usable energy in the form of heat, electricity, mechanical energy or other forms of power."

"By suppressing electromagnetic quantum vacuum energy at appropriate frequencies a change may be effected in the electron energy levels which will result in the emission or release of energy. Mode suppression of electromagnetic quantum vacuum radiation is known to take place in Casimir cavities. A Casimir cavity refers to any region in which electromagnetic modes are suppressed or restricted. When atoms enter into suitable micro Casimir cavities a decrease in the orbital energies of electrons in atoms will thus occur. Such energy will be captured in the claimed devices. Upon emergence from such micro Casimir cavities the atoms will be re-energized by the ambient electromagnetic quantum vacuum. In this way energy is extracted locally and replenished globally from and by the electromagnetic quantum vacuum."

"This process may be repeated an unlimited number of times. This process is also consistent with the conservation of energy in that all usable energy does come at the expense of the energy content of the electromagnetic quantum vacuum. Similar effects may be produced by acting upon molecular bonds. Devices are described in which gas is recycled through a multiplicity of Casimir cavities. The disclosed devices are scalable in size and energy output for applications ranging from replacements for small batteries to power plant sized generators of electricity."
