Subject: The day
America went broke
Once upon a time, the US government
closed the doors to every bank in the
nation.
The year was 1933 and it was called
a "bank holiday."
If you needed cash for something, you
were out of luck.
By 1933, over $140 billion in depositors'
money had gone up in smoke because of
banking failures and there was a run on
banks throughout the country that threatened
to bring the whole system down.
Here's what it looked and sounded like
seventy-five years ago.
