It's Memorial Day in the US, and before I get into today's topic, I would
like to express my heartfelt appreciation to all of our brave servicemen and women who have fought and are currently fighting to preserve our freedom.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that most people would not want to do anything that would harm or damage their brain.
Fair statement?
Well, the problem is that most people are now doing EXACTLY that -- hurting their brain and compromising its ability to function -- day in and day out.
And they probably don't even know it!
Here's how you can see if that includes you, and more importantly, what you can do about it.
 

The critical nutrient that's almost non-existent
The Omega-3 fatty acids Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are critical for brain health and development throughout your entire LIFE.
Your brain's neurons (the cells that transmit messages) are extremely rich in these Omega-3 fatty acids, especially DHA.
OK, so far so good. So what's the problem?
Thanks to our reliance on processed foods, vegetable oils and meats from grain-fed animals, the Omega-3 EFAs in our modern diets are practically non-existent!
So your brain is grossly being deprived of what it needs to function, every single day.
This can greatly impair your ability to think, learn and remember, among other things.
Now, it didn't used to be that way.
Just a few short years ago, we used to eat real (not processed) foods, plus butter, meat and eggs from animals who grazed in pastures rich with Omega-3 EFAs.
So our foods naturally gave us a hefty dose of this vital nutrient.
But no longer.
And not only do the foods of the typical modern diet NOT give you the Omega-3 EFAs you need, but they also inundate you with WAAAY too many inflammation-causing Omega-6 EFAs, which can contribute to everything from joint pain to high cholesterol to heart disease!
Plus, processed foods are also a source of trans-fats, which are a major contributing factor to heart disease, premature aging and chronic diseases of all kinds.
 

It starts in the womb
Now, don't make the mistake of thinking that I'm only talking about elderly people needing Omega-3 EFAs.
Because the need for EPA and DHA starts in the womb.
You see, your brain undergoes its most rapid development as a fetus in the womb. During this period, the fetus is completely dependent upon its mother to supply these critical fatty acids.
If the mom is deficient in EPA and DHA herself, her body will pull these EFAs out of her own brain cell membranes and give them to the baby.
This can cause a significant change in the mother's nervous system function and set her up for postpartum depression, hormonal imbalances and headaches after the baby is born.
And low DHA is a major cause of neurological abnormalities in newborn babies.
Researchers have found that infants with neurological deficits at birth had significantly LOWER levels of DHA and HIGHER levels of disease-causing trans-fats than normal infants!
Other studies have shown that low DHA levels correlated with higher rates of ADD, ADHD and distractibility problems in kids, along with lower levels of muscle function and coordination which are primarily controlled by the brain.
Things don't get prettier as we get older either.
As we age with a deficiency in EPA and DHA, we are highly susceptible to depression, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia and suicidal tendencies.
And of course, these deficiencies also are a major factor behind age-related forgetfulness and decline in brain function, aka "CRS disease."
