Note that in the US western states, BLM requires a variety of permits to camp on public lands and you have to move every several days (unless you are a completely 'stealth style' camper). In my younger days, I didn't have money for motels when traveling/relocating and would set up my little pup tent in various campgrounds. I laughed pretty loud when the caretaker asked me "What kind of hook-ups do you need?" In a future world with fewer busy-bodies to get in your business, you'd mostly need the following essentials: potable water, sanitary poop place, a heat source for cold weather comfort (or a well-insulated place to sleep), and something to eat.
