A video posted to the internet shows a duo of drunks stop a robbery
in progress by taking the keys out of the getaway vehicle. Police would
like you to think that they can keep you from becoming a victim, but
most departments are understaffed and incapable of handling the amount
of calls they get every day.
The video starts with one of the men trying to fix his sandals. Both
are babbling back and forth, but soon they realize the driver of a white
car that just pulled up is attempting to rob the gas station and leap
into action.
One of them mutters “They just fu***ng robbed the place” and then
opens the passenger door and takes the keys from the vehicle. He
exclaims “I’ve got the fu***ng keys” and displays them proudly. At the
same time the camera man checks the back of the car for a license plate.
The cameraman starts to get cold feet or feels that they have done
enough and suggests that they leave. His partner ignores him and rushes
to another business yelling “Call the cops. Quick. Triple zero, call the
cops.”
When the culprit returns, his keys are missing and he attempts to
flee on foot. The drunken duo give chase, but ultimately come up empty.
They may not have stopped the robber, but thanks to their actions there
is a solid lead to work with.
The entire ordeal took less than two-and-a-half minutes,
significantly quicker than the average response time of the police and
without the actions of these two heroes its safe to assume the robber
would have escaped. The situation would have been left with no leads and
little incentive for the police to complete a thorough investigation.
We don’t need storm troopers kicking in doors and shooting people in
the face to keep us safe. All we need to do is say something when we see
something. Look out for the people around you. You may not know them,
but when you need help wouldn’t it be great if someone came to your aid?
