In
a story that gets stranger and stranger by the day, a new report
reveals that the FBI not only gave Hillary Clinton’s top aides immunity
from prosecution, they actually arranged to destroy their laptops after
searching them for evidence. House Judiciary Committee sources spoke to
Fox News this week about the odd deal, which was apparently offered to
Clinton’s chief of staff, Cheryl Mills and former campaign worker
Heather Samuelson.
According
to those sources, Mills and Samuelson also procured an agreement from
the FBI that limited the agency’s search to documents created prior to
January 31, 2015.
The
revelation inspired House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte to fire off a
letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch in hopes of clarification.
“Like
many things about this case, these new materials raise more questions
than answers,” Goodlatte wrote. “Doesn’t the willingness of Ms. Mills
and Ms. Samuelson to have their laptops destroyed by the FBI contradict
their claim that the laptops could have been withheld because they
contained non-relevant, privileged information? If so, doesn’t that
undermine the claim that the side agreements were necessary?”
Oh,
and just for the record, Mrs. Lynch, could you explain once again what
you and Bill Clinton talked about on that tarmac this summer? Grandkids,
was it? Right, right.
In
addition to asking about the strange deal to destroy the laptops,
Goodlatte also questioned why the Department of Justice would agree to
confine their search to files created before Jan. 31, 2015. That
agreement, he wrote, gave “up any opportunity to find evidence related
to the destruction of evidence or obstruction of justice related to
Secretary Clinton’s unauthorized use of a private email server during
her tenure as Secretary of State.”
We’ve
known for months that the FBI and the DOJ gave Hillary Clinton a free
pass, but we may not get to the bottom of this scandal for quite some
time. The investigation itself may turn out to be a bigger story than
Hillary’s original crimes by the time it all comes out in the wash. No
objective observer can look at all of this without recognizing the dirty
deals. This is political corruption of the highest order, and it
permeates this entire administration.
