If I were a genie and gave you three wishes, what would you wish for?
I'd be willing to bet that some of the popular answers would include:
To be rich!
Good health.
A big house.
A head full of hair!
To get the man or woman of your dreams.
World peace.
To be famous.
Happiness.

And of course, the BIGGIE...
To take off the weight AND keep it off!

The Six Diet Booby Traps
Below are common booby traps that will almost guarantee that your efforts to shed the blubber will fail.
And you will continue to be frustrated and want to take a sledgehammer to the scale.
Without further ado, here they are:
Booby trap #1: Falling for marketing deception
Food manufacturers are VERY slick in how they market their products. They know that people are trying to be more health-conscious, so they are masterfully sneaky as they try to convince you that their products are somehow "healthy" even though they ain't.
Know this: Many of these "healthy" foods are anything BUT.
Take beverages, for example. Beverage manufacturers realize that people are catching on to the fact that soda can pack the pounds on you.
So how do these companies keep the more health-conscious people fooled...er, I mean, happy too? "Healthy" sports drinks, of course!
But they fail to point out that sports drinks and vitamin waters are LOADED with sugar and calories--in other words, basically no different than blubber-creating soda.
"Low fat" is another deceptive joke.
Products that are low fat are usually packed with sugar to help overcome the disgusting taste and texture of the food that resulted when the fat was taken out.
And that sugar will add nicely to your muffin top.
 

Booby trap #2: All carbs are bad
Thanks to protein-heavy diet plans like the South Beach Diet and Atkins, many people have been led to believe that all carbs are evil and will widen your backside.
That's simply NOT true...
Carbohydrates are VITAL to your body's functioning. Carbs are broken down into glucose, which is your body's primary fuel. Glucose is the main source of energy for muscle function, your central nervous system and especially your brain.
Putting it bluntly, without carbs you DIE.
The important thing is to become carb-savvy and choose COMPLEX carbs (like those found in whole grains, vegetables and legumes) and stay away from fat-creating processed and refined carbs (like sweets, white breads, white sugar, etc.)
 

Booby trap #3: Starvation
I remember back in high school, my friends and I would skip breakfast AND lunch for days on end trying to become a magical size 3 or 5.
But eventually we'd get ravenously hungry and go chow down a pizza, burgers, french fries, ice cream or whatever we could get our hands on.
Not exactly a perfect diet plan.
Plus we also didn't realize that if you don't eat at regular intervals throughout the day, you can mess up your blood sugar and insulin levels. That can make your body STORE fat and lower your metabolism -- both of which lead to weight GAIN--not Ioss.
 

Booby trap #4: Mucha too mucha
Simply put, many people just don't realize how much they're eating.
Common ways to lose track include eating restaurant portions (studies show many restaurant meals are enough to nourish 2-3 people), eating while watching TV (so you're not paying attention to what you're shoveling in) or eating straight from a package (so you don't know how much you've inhaled until you see the empty bag).
That, coupled with the fact that many people eat WAY too fast (so they don't get the "full" signal until LONG after they've had too much food) leads to many a pair of jeans that you need to lie on the bed to zip.
 

Booby trap #5: Diet pill disaster
Most diet pills are designed to suppress your appetite while giving your body a source of some (synthetic) nutrients.
There are two glaring problems with this.
First off, any weight you drop when taking these pills will come rolling back on (and then some) once you stop the pills and start eating food again.
And second, your body knows the difference between synthetic nutrients and those found in real foods. The pills just don't cut it in terms of nutrition.
 

Booby trap #6: Couch potato-itis
I know this is THE thing you dread hearing the most, but I've got to be blunt.
If you have any hopes of wearing those skinny clothes in your closet (or for some of you, seeing your toes again), you MUST move your body.
Don't listen to those ads for BS products like pills or shakes that claim you don't need to exercise. They know that is what people want to hear. Remember, they want you to buy LOTS of their product and will say whatever it takes to make you do so, your health (and weight) be damned.
 

What DOES work for Iost pounds
Now that you know the six common diet booby traps, I'll tell you what you SHOULD do to once and for all take off the pounds AND keep them off!
It's a simple matter of 1, 2, 3:
1) Move your butt
Pick an activity you like or can at least tolerate and DO IT 3-4 times a week. Even brisk walking is fine and you can do that practically everywhere.

- You get full faster and end up eating LESS overall.
- The real foods you're eating are inherently lower in calories than the burgers, chips, candy or whatever other nutritionally dead foods you may have eaten in the past.
- Because you're properly nourished, you'll also STAY full and satisfied longer, so your chances of binging between meals have just been slashed.
All of this means: You the blubber falls off and stays off!
 

3) Make sure digestion is fast and efficient
This is by far the most important point of all.
If your foods are not being broken down like they should be, you're not getting the maximum nutrition from them. And that causes feelings of hunger which leads to overeating (and weight gain).
