PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — A Pendleton man says he’s flying the U.S. flag upside down to protest the presidency of Barack Obama, but some of his neighbors aren’t happy with the display.
The East Oregonian reports 71-year-old Larry Taylor considers the country in trouble. To signal his dissatisfaction, he’s using the international sign for distress — an upside down flag.
Taylor says he began flying the flag upside down about one month ago, and has no plans to change it until Obama is no longer president.
Taylor says he’s received phone calls and complaints from neighbors.
Brad Wahl was one of them. Wahl says the flag is “sacred,” and that while he might agree with Taylor’s politics, he doesn’t agree with the display.

Mr. Taylor is absolutely correct that, flying the flag upside down is an indication that the nation is in trouble and it is an international sign for distress. It's as simple as that. There is no disrespect for the flag. It's just sayin', damn, people we've got problems here! How about the flag patch on our soldier's uniforms being displayed backwards. The blue field is suppose to be top left when displayed horizontally. That ticks me off more that the flag flown upside down. The latter doesn't bother me at all. It is a legitimate distress signal. But then we are not suppose to destroy the flag yet we have people making cakes that look like the flag; then they eat them. Also, yesterday, on this web site, I saw a picture of a huge flag, on the ground made from red, white and blue flowers. What about when the flowers wilt and die out? I guess it's okay for mother nature to destroy the flag.

To Wahl; yes, while the flag is 'sacred', and many , many have died for it, the display of the flag upside down signifying "nation in distress', is proper in it's display. Our nation is in distress, though too few 'seem' to realize it or believe it. Perhaps if more Americans would display the flag in this way it would generate a wake up call for America. We as a nation, I fear are too lethargic and lazy to even put some needed 'critical thinking' in the mix. I say well done Larry Taylor, for most don't even know the signifigance in displaying the flag upside down.

Thank you for educating us that this is a sign for our country being in distress. I agree with Mr. Taylor. WAKE UP AMERICA, we are in trouble and we need to join together to put a stop to all the corruption and out of control government. We need to pull our heads out of the sand and say enough is enough. We need to go back to our original Constitution and Bill of Rights. Its intent was to protect our freedoms and rights . We are being dumb-downed and led to the proverbial slaughter. This government has infected every aspect of our lives. We must use our voices to bring change to America. We must bring her back to the great country she was meant to be - the model of a free democracy.
