In Switzerland, almost every adult male has a government issued assault rifle

Almost every Swiss adult male is in the army, and does 2 weeks service in the summer. Each is issued a SIG SG 550 assault rifle which he keeps at home. He is not allowed to keep army-issued ammo at home, but he is allowed to buy his own ammo, which is subsidized by the government.

Home invasions are quite rare.
