Thursday News and Commentaries

Well we went to bed with the same news as we awaken with this morning...that Abadi and entourage to be announced in the coming hours....within 36 hours it would seem....will this bring some other interesting details with it....undoubtedly....for I fear we have not heard the last out of Maliki....notice he has again grown quiet....when the snake is quiet one learns to be extra cautious of where one walks...looking "over" door sills before entering a new room even....I predict that Maliki will not be meeting Abadi to offer kisses on the cheeks. DELTA'S new theme song....."You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet."

Deputy: Jubouri asked MPs not to travel to their home provinces in preparation for a vote on government
....
The finishing touches are being applied to Abadi's court and they should be presented to the Speaker of Parliament and other Parliament members in the coming hours....so a request from al-Jubouri to all members of Parliament.....do not travel home between Wednesday and Saturday....as there will likely be an emergency session of Parliament called to announce Abadi's Court of Ministers.....be here to receive them in the proper fashion.....meanwhile Abadi is still focusing upon and discussing the idea that some laws need to be and should be pushed back to the provinces where they rightfully should have been in the first place.....allowing them to better manage their own business.

The announcement of the formation of the ministerial Abadi cabins in the coming hours

Well now we have an article that wants us to believe that Abadi is merely going to "present" his ministers today that a vote on them will not take place until next week sometime....more discussion of how the ministerial positions have been divided up....but again...this is from yet another anonymous source....so I'm tending to say I'll believe this when it happens....this is not Abadi talking.....so I'll choose at this point to just watch and wait.

Agreement on the semi-final given the position of Vice President of the Republic of Ibrahim al-Jaafari

So yet another unnamed source is announcing that al-Jaafari will be Vice President of the Republic.....you know my stance on these unnamed sources and their announcements....I'll wait to see the official publication....unnamed sources can and do say anything.....either on purpose or maliciously....so....add another grain of salt to the margarita please.

Oil opens the second unit of the Halfaya field Maissan card 100 000 barrels per day

The Halfaya field is expected to have production come on-line next Saturday at a rate of 100,000 barrels of oil per day....not bad for starters and it is expected to increase to around 200,000 barrels of oil per day...this is after work by one of the Chinese oil company's work since 2010.

Maysan Oil completes drilling eight new wells and produce 141 million barrels per day during June and July

Similar article that speaks to the whole of the Maysan Oil Company bringing on a total of 8 new wells and having production at 141 million barrels of oil per day between June and July....Maysan I believe is in the south and has been relatively unaffected by the recent terrorist activities.....this effort comes largely at the hands of Chinese oil companies.

Liberal: We made our candidates for Ebadi and we will get on the position of a sovereign and three ministries of service

The Liberal political bloc has provided names to Abadi for ministers and feel they are getting representation in the new government....unity is hopefully coming to the surface at last for Iraq.

A parliamentary source is likely to convene an emergency session of Parliament this evening to vote on the government-Abbadi

In the coming hours.....as the evening shadows grow away from your camel.....we might expect a vote on the new Iraqi government....let them and the world be happy with the results...and let any bloodshed by those not happy be nil.

Parliament to vote on its standing committees and hosts the Minister of Finance in the Saturday session

The regularly scheduled session of Parliament that is set for Saturday could see the voting on standing committees within Parliament...and perhaps they will hear from the Minister of Finance....it would be nice if that was Abadi's Minister of Finance they would be hearing from.....not the outgoing one.

Defense announces the death of the most prominent leaders of Daash airstrike in Mosul

I'm not sure how they can know that "most" of the leaders of DAASH have been killed by air strikes in Mosul....but even so, there is still much more work to be done to exterminate IS....they do not merely need to rid them of their leaders...others will assume the positions....keep the good work up and keep the attacks coming.

Iraq and BP sign a revised agreement for the Rumaila oil field

This new contract between Iraq and BP merely lowers the expected or anticipated production rate down from 2.85 million barrels to 2.1.

Talabani's party calls for the salaries of the three presidencies regardless staff Territory

Talabani's party is still negotiating on the premise of paying salaries for Kurd employees....something that apparently may still be up in the air.....I am thinking that this will become more clear as the new GOI gets voted upon by Parliament and greater focus can then be given to these kinds of issues by the newly formed government.....there have also been many negotiations underway with President Massoum and with Abadi so those negotiations may also have an impact on the salary future for the Kurds.

Economists: will disclose the names of banks that give loans without collateral enormous amounts

At least some banks within Iraq appear to have been guilty in the past of providing some loans without asking or requiring collateral to back up the loans.....economists intend to spill the beans on which banks they believe are guilty of this practice and intend to hold them accountable for their actions.

Turkish minister: Kurdistan's oil exports exceeded 10 million barrels

The Kurds have pushed 10 million barrels of oil through their pipeline to Ceyhan just since May....nice fat number...their daily rate is sitting at 180,000 barrels per day.

Washington promotes the protection of its embassy in Baghdad, 350 soldiers and Australia .. "does not exclude" Send a fighting force

The translation that is lost at times in these articles could be down right funny if things weren't so serious with regard to what these terrorists are doing and what the reaction needs to be to them.....so now obama wants to have an "international coalition"...but not just any coalition...a "true" one....has anyone pressed him for the definition there.....so at last we admit to putting "combat" boots on the ground...it's about time....now use those boots to do some serious "butt-kicking" damage where it counts....what is the use of protecting one embassy when you allow another embassy to be overrun by terrorists without even an attempt at defending it....there lies the glaring fact that we have no strategy in place to deal with these "international" issues....Australia admits that ISIS is a threat to the ME and to "the whole world".....but why is the US so hesitant to make that same kind of statement....it has come time to grab this evil bull by the horns and show there is still might left in the American military machine...."Don't Tread on Me"

Hafiz: No advanced economy without a banking system developed

A member of Parliament....an economic expert...so to speak....has stated that Iraq needs to create a favorable economic environment....and to do so also requires a well-developed banking system.....there are undoubtedly improvements that can be made to Iraq's banking sector and they are constantly working on such improvements.....still 92% of banking deposits reside with state banks.....that is an overload on their behalf....but it also speaks to the level of trust that Iraqi's put in private banking entities....no doubt there could be some better adjustments or enhancements made to existing banking laws as well.....that would be the work of the new government that is about to be put into place.

Senior American official to visit Baghdad to resolve the problematic form a government and face Daash

VP Biden is expected to visit Baghdad soon.....he sees that there is still tension between political blocs over how the new government is being formed.....he better speak quick or forever hold his peace.....he will also address security and terrorist issues....should make for an interesting interaction between him and the newly formed government that could be in place by the time he gets there.

Evening vote on the government-Abbadi

No new news here....either this evening or tomorrow it looks like they could vote on the new government....we shall wait and see.

Abadi slap Maliki .. cancel orders Diwaniyah recent appointment of his men went to!

There have been a flurry of new appointments and reassignments by Maliki in the closing days of his reign as PM of Iraq.....Abadi it seems may very well cancel all such appointments and reassignments for the past three months.....that is an excellent idea on his part....stating that the caretaker government has no right to be making such changes within the government....good for Abadi to stand up against Maliki's tyranny.

Iranian pressure .. the Iraqi side, al-Maliki refused to grant legal immunity!

It would seem that Maliki has chopped off too many hands....there are none left to feed him....so will he be prosecuted once he is out of office....it appears to be highly likely....from an international standpoint....not sure there is really any mechanism big enough to keep that from happening....internally....where are his few friends that he might have left....they seem to have scampered away to other parts of the world already.

Some quick summaries for the day....they are indeed interesting....

More to come I am sure as we see and hear more from Parliament today.
