Wednesday News Summaries and Commentaries

This morning I held off on doing the news summaries for a while...had some other things to get done....but have been watching what has been posted....some of you seem to think the news is just more of the same...but I can assure it is much more than the same....but to each their own. Let's dive in.

Iraq’s New Premier Shakes Up Military

To me this was no surprise in coming...I guess I'm surprised it took him this long to take action....but Abadi knows what he is doing and knows when the time is ripe to strike I think.

The cronyism that Maliki showed is rampant through out the government but probably more visible in the leadership of the military....even with leaders that obviously had failed....they were brought back under the cloak of darkness so the people wouldn't notice..
....
but Abadi paid attention and took notes very well....

before leaving for New York he announced some significant changes in the military and its leadership....including eliminating the Office of Adjutant General of the Armed Forces, a position that Maliki had created back in 2006....

this position basically did the work of the Defense and Interior Ministers that Maliki never appointed and chose to keep those hats himself....

so definitely a Maliki boy there....out he goes....

Abadi also ousted two generals who were present in Mosul when it was overrun in June. These are the two that Maliki got rid of on the surface, but then brought them back...well now they are in retirement for good.

Dry calling for an end to the file management of government positions by proxy

Well I can say that I believe this MP has a valid concern.....and especially so if the government hadn't changed....but in the case with Abadi, I do not believe he has any intention of keeping the Defense and Interior hats on his head any longer than he has to....take a breath and give him just a bit of room and let him work things out....he's already tried to bring names to Parliament and it was your group that turned them down....so he is trying...but at the same time he is a very busy new Prime Minister....in good time you will see some great action I believe....in fact I think we've already been witness to great results from this government.

Najafi asserts his quest to ensure the success of the government

Najafi, is a funny man, now in a position of no authority....he swings with the wind, like a windmill in West Texas....but he's really just a duster....a dry hole now.....he can still speak his piece and be heard....but who is really listening....the world is tuned into Abadi and Massoum looking at how the new government is going to move forward and release itself from the clutches of past corruption and graft....they have already shown witness to this....leading to a much more stabilized government, something that has been totally lacking in Iraq for 8 years....IMO.

Al-Jubouri, the central bank governor: the need to maintain currency stability and to address the process of money laundering

When was the last time that we saw CBI governor going to the Parliament Speaker and having a "frank" discussion on how they can work together in support of each other....the new CBI governor clearly has a game plan in hand as to how he can work with the Parliament in doing what???? getting new laws passed that will help stabilize their currency and at the same time protect it agains money laundering....not counterfeiting...but money laundering.....corruption....a key part of Abadi's whole program....removing corruption from all areas.....the CBI is seen going forward as supporting the Parliament's efforts with reform and further work on their behalf.....this is some of the work on new laws that are being worked on that Frank spoke about....this is good stuff....positive, proactive stuff.

Abadi attending a meeting with Obama and the king of Jordan and the foreign ministers of Iraq and the Gulf states to support Iraq

IMO....this is NOT why Abadi was asked to come to New York City.....there is more going on that we can't see than discussions about security and Gulf state support of Iraq.....that just isn't something that Obama would get his hands dirty with...that is what he pays Kerry to do.....watch this conference and pay attention to what happens in the hallways and little conference rooms off the main stream of things....there is where some "deals" could be struck....probably won't hear of any results until the Iraqi's get home though.

Sudanese looking with the World Bank to develop economic relations and the Iraqi infrastructure

The Iraqi Finance Minister has met with the World Bank and discussed improvements in economic relations between the two....improvements that would see gains in the areas of reconstruction and services throughout the country.....loans to make this happen....while strengthening and developing economic relations for Iraq....he is laying the ground work for when Iraq gets out from underneath the 2014 budget fiasco.....where their projects and infrastructure construction efforts have ground to a miserable halt due to the battles over the budget.....he is "forward looking" at what can be done through the World Bank to kick start their economy again....again....more good news.

Jubouri: some of the decisions of the Federal Court handcuffed the work of the House and we'll legislative revolution

Speaker of Parliament, Jubouri, spoke in front of the media and announced that while in the past some of their effectiveness has been handcuffed by the Federal Court, he sees revolutionary change coming about that will ensure great working relationships between Parliament and the Federal Court....he also knows and understands the media's role in things and expects to be in front of them often to share information and work from Parliament and its respective committees.....I see this as an effort of the new government and Parliament working hand in hand with the judiciary to right whatever wrongs were made in the past by the previous government and to bring forth positive changes that will benefit everyone involved in their legislative, judicial, and executive processes.

Deputy for mass Badr: Ameri-Jubouri was supported by the Kurds and the electrodes and to take internal

MP's speaking out for their respective political entities that they have no issues with Abadi naming Ameri as Minister of Interior...this includes the Badr political organization as well as the Kurds....and Speaker of Parliament Jubouri....I'm sorry for not having my notes in front of me at the moment...but who was pushed by Abadi to start with for the Interior? Sounds like steam is being built for Ameri at this point....and to me it is a good thing to see the Kurds onboard with the National Alliance group in this area....they must be made happy, or there will be much misery to be had in Whoville tonight.

Economists criticize the issuance of a new currency instead of the implementation of the deletion of zeros

The economists are like everyone else they have their own opinions about what the government and CBI are doing or not doing....and their opinions are sometimes differing....I would expect things to be that way.....however, to say that the issuance of new currency, to eventually replace old currency that is 1) wearing out...and 2) is being heavily counterfeited is going to raise inflation....I think they are crying wolf....

inflation is something that the CBI is very careful to watch about...and keeps it under control.....the CBI is saying pretty plainly the project to remove the 000's is still on the table....what this article is telling you is they are prepared to do that at any time....they, the economists and the CBI see the benefit of the 000's project....no doubt...to strength their economy....and something big here is mentioned....being COMMENSURATE with neighboring countries....

which country would Iraq want to be equal to or greater than in value...that of Kuwait of course....something we've known all along and expected from the Iraqi's when time comes to push the button on things....no one has stated that with the issuance of the new 10k notes that any process would be complete...

this is just a first step towards a stabilization of what had been an easily counterfeited currency.....a common sense thing to do....IMO...what is being done is following a carefully orchestrated plan....is it a plan the CBI or the GOI thought of on their own....I highly doubt it....."who's your DADDY?"

The economists are nervous, but I don't think or believe they are fully apprised of the complete picture of Iraq's financial future at this stage of the game.

Well there isn't much news today it seems....hope you enjoy this.      Randy
