Missouri Reps Deliver Massive Defeat to Gun Grabbers

BREAKING:  MISSOURI  REPS  OVERRIDE  GOVERNOR'S  VETO,  DELIVER  MASSIVE  DEFEAT  TO  GUN  GRABBERS

Near the end of the 2016 legislative season, the Missouri state legislature passed a bill that made some significant pro-gun changes to the state’s laws, including the recognition of constitutional carry, that is, the ability to conceal or open carry a handgun without a permit.

As was expected, anti-gun Democrat Gov. Jay Nixon vetoed the bill, like many other pro-gun bills before it, citing the usual anti-gun arguments about public safety and increased danger from untrained and unpermitted individuals walking around with guns — you know, the old “blood in the streets” canard.

However, regardless of the opposition from the governor, Democrats, and well-financed anti-gun groups like Bloomberg‘s Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action, the Republican-led legislature overrode Nixon’s veto Wednesday by overwhelming margins in both the House and the Senate.

According to a hyperventilating article from The Kansas City Star, amid the fretting and hand-wringing about gun-carrying individuals with no training or permit from the government being in public, it was also revealed that SB 656 did more than just recognize the Second Amendment as the only “license” needed to bear arms.

The law, which will go into effect in 30 days, also reduced the penalty for carrying a weapon in a gun-free zone from a felony to a misdemeanor, implemented a “stand your ground” defense that removed the duty to retreat before using lethal force, and strengthened the “castle doctrine” law to include invited guests of a homeowner.

And, for those who still wished to receive a concealed carry license, likely for reciprocity purposes with other states, the Missouri permit will now last for a lifetime, with no expiration date.

Of course, several Democrats spoke out against the new law, claiming that unlicensed concealed carriers would make the streets of places like Kansas City and St. Louis less safe.

Maybe they haven’t been paying attention, but those streets are already “less safe,” precisely because of the criminals who have always been carrying unlicensed firearms.

Republican state Sen. Brian Munzlinger, the sponsor of the bill, remarked that SB 656 “will allow law-abiding citizens to protect themselves from criminals.”

Missouri now joins the likes of Alaska, Arizona, Idaho,  Arkansas, Kansas, Maine, Montana, Vermont, Wyoming, and West Virginia, all states that allow for individuals to carry a firearm either openly or concealed without first paying a tax and begging the permission of their benevolent government to exercise a natural right protected by the Constitution.
