TTP_ Trans - Pacific Partnership Agreement Continues to Be Hidden from Our Constitutional Republic _ circa 2014

Ambassador Lee Emil Wanta

Why is the TPP Deal Such a Big Secret?

With the text of Trans-Pacific Partnership hidden from the public, TRNN's Jessica Desvarieux speaks to those who have read the document and who say this level of secrecy is unprecedented -   June 7, 2015

JESSICA DESVARIEUX, PRODUCER, TRNN: The text of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, or TPP, has become one of the biggest secrets in Washington. This international treaty includes 12 countries and represents more than 40 percent of the world's GDP. But the text is not available to the public, and what the public does know about the deal comes from three leaked chapters sent to WikiLeaks. And now the website is looking to raise $100,000 towards a cash reward to anyone willing to reveal the rest of the 26 chapters of the TPP.
Critics of the Obama administration's TPP deal say that the level of secrecy surrounding the deal should make citizens question in whose interest is this deal, anyway?
CELESTE DRAKE, TRADE POLICY SPECIALIST, AFL-CIO: You know, you're putting forth rules that have most of the power to corporations and very little power to people, and very few protections for the planet. They're right that people aren't going to like that. So if this forces, if being transparent forces different kind of rules, that's the conversation we want to have.
DESVARIEUX: We spoke to Celeste Drake, who is a trade policy specialist with the union AFL-CIO. She's read the entire deal and was a part of a labor advisory committee designed to guide the office of the U.S. Trade Representative, or USTR, during negotiations.
She was even hesitant to speak too much about the text, because talking about it in detail could end up getting her arrested.
DRAKE: Now, I don't know that they've ever arrested and prosecuted somebody for revealing things that are happening in a trade negotiation. But I don't think that anyone wants to test it, either.
But we do have very serious issues with the fact that trade agreements are treated in the same way as national security. This really isn't about troop movements, it's not about any kind of military strategy. And frankly once the U.S. has put its text on the table that says this is what we want for the intellectual property chapter, or this is what we want from the environment chapter, the need for secrecy is gone. Because in negotiations you keep it secret from the party that you're negotiating with. And once they have it, there's no more advantage to keeping it secret.
DESVARIEUX: But who else has been able to see this deal? The USTR released names of about 600 trade advisors who have access to the text. Eighty-five percent of these advisors represent trade associations and corporations. The rest of the groups, like labor, are clearly in the minority. Members of Congress like Connecticut Democrat Rosa DeLauro has come out strongly against the secrecy around the TPP. Congress can only read one section at a time in a secret location in the Capitol's basement, and they are forbidden from taking notes, and only staff with special clearance can see the text.
DeLauro says getting information out to the public has been an uphill battle.
REP. ROSE DELAURO (D-CT): And it's taken us a very, very long time to get, to be able to see, to see, three or four chapters of this agreement. We have been unable to do that for months and months and months.
DESVARIEUX: As of April, only 43 members of Congress had actually asked to see the text, according to the Hill. President Obama stands by his assertion that the text is available, and that there is no secret deal.
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: You got some critics saying that any deal would be rushed through. It's a secret deal. People don't know what's in it. This is not true. Any agreement that we finalize with the other 11 countries will have to be posted online for at least 60 days before I even sign it. Then it would go to Congress, and you know they're not going to do anything fast.
DESVARIEUX: But critics say that once fast-track is passed the TPP is pretty much a done deal because it guarantees that Congress cannot amend or filibuster a deal, meaning the final deal will simply get an up or down vote. So the logic goes that if the Obama administration can get enough votes to pass fast-track they'll get enough votes for the agreement, and history has proven that to be true.
It happened with the U.S.-Canada Free Trade Agreement under President Reagan, with NAFTA under President Clinton, and CAFTA under President George W. Bush, in addition to many others.
DELAURO: What we're asking on fast-track is that we allow there to be congressional input into the process of the negotiations. That's what we're asking for, and that has not happened.
DESVARIEUX: But is this level of secrecy around a trade agreement really unprecedented?
DAMON SILVERS, DIR. OF POLICY, AFL-CIO: [Inaud.] have been personally involved in trade negotiations for the last 20 years or so are universally of the opinion that this is the most secretive process that they've ever experienced.
DESVARIEUX: Damon Silvers is a director of policy and special counsel for AFL-CIO. He said the NAFTA text under President Clinton was made public. In a Politico magazine article, longtime trade advisor for trade deals Michael Wessel says this is the most restrictive trade negotiation process he's ever encountered.
Being that this deal is supposed to be about trade, not only are cleared advisors restricted from seeing partner countries' counter-proposals, they also cannot access the documents unless under the watchful eye of a USTR official. He wrote, “We have to travel to certain government facilities and sign in to read the materials. Even then, the administration determines what we can and cannot review, and often they provide carefully edited summaries rather than the actual underlying text, which is critical to really understanding the consequences of the agreement.”
AFL-CIO trade specialist Celeste Drake agrees, and says that the Obama administration may be hesitant to release the full text because recent trade deals that were released have not done well in the public eye.
DRAKE: Under the Bush administration when the former USTR Robert Zoellick said let's be totally transparent, let's publish the actual working text of the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas online. And people will see what we're doing and they won't be as afraid of it being behind closed doors. And then, subsequent to that negotiations fell apart. So maybe the wrong lesson was learned in that if you're public about what you're doing, you can't do trade.
I think--you know, to some extent if you're public about what you're doing and what you're doing is not good for the public, that's the right answer.
DESVARIEUX: But the Obama administration and the Republican leadership want to make sure that the TPP doesn't face a similar fate. On Thursday a super PAC affiliated with Republican leadership, American Action Network, announced it will be launching a $1 million ad campaign to sway constituents.
But those on the other side are launching their own campaign by banging on the doors of the USTR, demanding that the text be released to the public. Since fast-track already passed in the Senate, protesters say they will be ramping up pressure ahead of a vote in the House. Because as they see it, a secret trade deal this big cannot just rise and set with policy-makers and lobbyists in Washington.

Mass Bank Closures In The Areas Of Jade Helm Starting June 16th....

(in 9 days)!

Whoa, there are no words! The Bank Of America (among other banks) will be closing in the areas of Jade Helm starting June 16th. This might possibly support Suzanne Posel’s work. Her theory is that they are going to declare a “virus in all the banks” and tell you something like “On Monday you’ll be fine”. She said when they say that, you have 72 hours until martial law. This might just be a drill folks, but the real thing is coming. Get ready!

Many banks in Calexico, CA are shutting down on June 16th. Calexico is in the exact place where the Jade Helm map indicates “hostile” and is labeled “insurgent territory”. Is this due to the military exercise that is to take place during that same date?

Organic Farmers FINALLY Have Beaten Monsanto In Court

Organic Farmers FINALLY Have Beaten Monsanto In Court

A federal judge in Oregon has handed local governments and organic farmers an important weapon in the battle against GMO crops.
U.S. Judge Mark D. Clarke upheld voter-passed Measure 15-119 , a ban on genetically engineered crops in Jackson County, Oregon – and a law that Monsanto and other biotech companies staunchly opposed.
It was a major loss for Monsanto, which was backing a challenge to the ordinance and had contributed to a nearly $1 million advertising campaign against it.
A group of farmers that grow Monsanto’s GMO alfalfa had sued the county in an attempt to block the ordinance’s implementation. The farmers were contending that the ordinance violated Oregon’s Right to Farm law.
Family farms and supporters of the law asserted it was necessary to protect the county’s organic farms from contamination – and Clarke agreed.
“Based on the text and context of the Right to Farm Act and Measure 15-119 , the Court finds that the Ordinance intends to protect against damage to commercial agriculture products, and therefore it falls into the exception to the Right to Farm Act,” Clarke wrote in his opinion.
The Best Source For Non-GMO Heirloom Seeds Is Right Here!
Farmers, he wrote, “have always been able to bring claims against other farmers for practices that cause actionable damage to their commercial agriculture.” The ordinance, he wrote, “serves to prevent such damage before it happens.”
Law Would Require Destruction of GMO Plants
The farmers argued that Measure 15-119  violated their rights because it would require farmers to destroy the GMO crops they had planted. The ordinance – passed in May 2014 by a 2-to-1 margin – allows them to harvest this year’s crop and gives them 12 months to transition to non-GMO plants.
Jackson County and anti-GMO groups contend that the county has the power to regulate farming under Oregon law.
organic_farmingA group called the Our Family Farms Coalition had filed an amicus curie, or friend-of-the-court brief, on behalf of Jackson County.
“The court upheld the Ordinance on the grounds that it was intended to protect against damage to commercial agricultural products, which is allowed under the Right to Farm Act, and because it was expressly allowed by the Oregon Legislature,” the Coalition’s email stated.
New Natural Fertilizer Doubles Garden Production!
Jackson County resident Jared Watters voted for the ordinance.
“I think a farmer should be able to plant what he wants. What’s more important is that a farmer doesn’t have a right to plant something that will hurt his neighbor’s crop,” he told OregonLive.com when the ordinance passed. “There’s no way for co-existence between GMO and non-GMO.”
Legislature Prevents Other Oregon Communities from Banning GMOs
Jackson County’s victory is far from complete, though, as the law’s opponents can appeal Clarke’s decision.
The Oregon state legislature previously passed legislation that specifically bars local communities from banning GMO plants. It was signed into law.
That law, the Seed Bill, specifically exempted Jackson County, because Measure 15-119  already had qualified for the ballot when the bill passed.
“It is clear from the text and context of the Seed Bill that the Oregon legislature meant to preempt counties and other local governments from enacting laws banning the use of GE seeds so that the GMO issue could be addressed on a state-wide, uniform basis,” Clarke wrote.
Since the Seed Bill is now the law in Oregon, it would be illegal for other communities in the state to ban GMO plants. To pass more bans, GMO opponents would have to overturn the Seed Bill.
Monsanto has suffered a setback, but it still has powerful allies.

Gray wolves are killing cattle and family pets in Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin, and all residents can do is stand by and watch thanks to a federal judge’s ruling.
In December, US District Judge Beryl Howell overturned the Obama administration’s decision to take the gray wolf in the Great Lakes states off the endangered species list, The Detroit Free Press reported. Howell’s action effectively banned hunting and trapping of wolves in those states.
Farmer Miles Kuschel watched a pack of six wolves surround his cattle on Easter, but decided not to shoot because of the ruling. When he came back, a calf was dead.
“They came, they killed and they left, but they’re still around. They just move on to the neighbor’s place,” Kuschel told Watchdog.org.
Others have had similar experiences.
“There was a big gray timber wolf,” Laurie Anderson told Minnesota Public Radio (MPR). “The wolf grabbed Curly by the neck, and headed down toward what we call the West Branch of the Knife River. And I’ve never seen my little dog again.”
Anderson’s poodle, Curly Moe, was one of several dogs carried away by wolves in the region around Duluth in April, MPR reported. The wolf attacked when Anderson and Curly went outside to get the mail.
Discover The Only Way Back To True Freedom And Liberty In America
Howell’s ruling keeps wolves on the endangered species list, which means they only can be killed in defense of human life. That means Anderson and Kuschel could have been prosecuted for a federal crime if they shot the wolves to defend their animals.
Farmers Are Helpless
“You could be watching your pasture and you could see a wolf killing your cattle, which is like watching someone at the ATM taking money out of your bank account, and you can do nothing to stop it,” Charlie Poster, the assistant commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, told Watchdog.org.
The US Fish and Wildlife Service took the gray wolf in the Great Lakes Region (Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan) off the Endangered Species List three years ago. Animal rights groups and environmentalists appealed, and Howell reversed that decision.
That means farmers and ranchers need to get federal permission to shoot wolves they see killing their cattle. It also effectively ended wolf hunting seasons in the three states and wolf trapping in Minnesota and Wisconsin. It also means that property owners have no way to protect their pets from wolves.

Farmers can get compensation for livestock killed if they take pictures of slaughtered animals and send them to the Fish and Wildlife Service. Unfortunately, that process can take months — and it is getting longer. Poster said his agency is dealing with a back log of claims for compensation for wolf attacks.
Learn About The ‘Real Constitution’ And What The Founders Truly Intended
Supporters of the judge’s ruling defended the decision.
“The wolves needed to go back under federal protection,” Jill Fitz, the director of the Michigan Humane Society, told The Free Press. “The courts recognized the basis of the delisting was flawed.”
Wildlife officials estimate that there are currently around 2,400 wolves living in 470 packs in Minnesota, and 636 wolves on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. More could be crossing the border from neighboring Ontario. The wolves are getting more aggressive, according to wildlife officials.
“Within the last half a year, we’ve had I would say probably a spike of wolves that are coming in and going after some domestic animals,” Kipp Duncan, a Minnesota conservation officer, told MPR. Duncan knows of at least five dogs that were attacked and eaten by wolves. He knows of at least one case in which a wolf killed a dog chained to a house.
On average, around 100 farm animals and five dogs a year are killed by wolves in Minnesota. Duncan thinks the wolves are getting more aggressive because the population of their favorite food – deer – has decreased.
“I think it’s a function of wolves being hungry and not finding as much food as they normally do in the areas they normally forage in,” John Hart of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Service Program told MPR. “So they’re moving to where the deer are, which happens to be where the people are.”

IKEA Vows To Spend $1 Billion On Renewable Energy

IKEA Vows To Spend $1 Billion On Renewable Energy

IKEA To Invest In Renewable Energy
IKEA announced plans to spend more than $1.2 billion on renewable energy. The world’s largest furniture retailer also pledges to help poor nations cope with climate change.
IKEA’s Chief Executive Officer, Peter Agnefjall, told Reuters the company plans to move toward their goal of using 100 percent clean energy by taking an active stance to slow warming, without pushing consumer prices up.
Agnefjall said the company’s investments “will be good for customers, good for the climate, and good for IKEA too.” Agnefjall added the company’s plans are not a public relations campaign—the Swedish furniture store is simply motivated to tackle climate change.
IKEA’s CEO told Reuters, “Getting that message out to the customers is secondary.”
IKEA has already invested $1.7 billion in solar and wind renewable energy. The company plans to add more to their previous investment by using 60 percent of the $1.2 billion to go towards renewable energy, in particular wind energy.
The other 40 percent of the investment will go towards helping poor countries adapt to climate change. Amjad Abdulla, chief negotiator on the United Nations climate agreement for the Alliance of Small Island States, commented, “I am heartened to see corporate leadership in this area.”
IKEA’s use of renewable energy is notable. They have 700,000 solar panels on their buildings, with 314 wind turbines in nine countries.
However, in March, Fortune reported IKEA uses one percent of the world’s commercially logged wood. IKEA stated they plan to obtain more of its wood and cotton from sustainable sources in the future.
IKEA’s chief sustainability officer, Steve Howard, commented on the company’s sustainability plans.
“We are potentially at peak stuff in the west. That’s probably a good thing. But we’re a small share of that stuff. And as stuff becomes more sustainable we’re going to lead in sustainable stuff. There’s a huge growth market for sustainable stuff. This is a roller coaster of a mega-trend.”

IKEA is recognized for not charging premium prices for environmentally friendly or green products. Their policy is to serve “the many people” and “those with thin wallets.” Last year, IKEA made more than $32 billion, according to an article by Grist.
The world’s largest furniture retailer will phase out all of their light bulbs by September. They are also starting to sell solar panels at reasonable prices.
IKEA’s Steve Howard said, “We sold enough [LEDs] last year to save the energy of a decent sized city.”
In addition to investing in renewable energy and helping impoverished nations adapt to climate change, IKEA plans to generate its own clean energy by 2020.

Vladimir Putin Says World War 3 Fears Are Unjustified, But Pope Francis Says WW3 Already Started

Vladimir Putin Says World War 3 Fears Are Unjustified, But Pope Francis Says WW3 Already Started

Vladimir Putin Says World War 3 Fears Are Unjustified, But Pope Francis Says WW3 Already Started
Russian President Vladimir Putin is doing his best to quell any fears over the possibility of World War 3 breaking out between the NATO forces and Russia, claiming that only a “sick person” would imagine WW3. Pope Francis would disagree with this assessment, and believes the world has been beset by an “atmosphere of war.”
In a related report by the Inquisitr, Finland has been prepping its army reserves for war, and Sweden is receiving help from U.S. B-52 nuclear bombers as a show of force in Europe. Investor George Soros also believes it is “no exaggeration” to speak of World War 3 starting soon, although he claims a third world war would start in China over financial concerns. The Chinese leadership also recently spoke openly about the possibility of World War 3, but they blamed the United States for “meddling” in world affairs.
The Ukraine war continues to be battled between Kiev and pro-Russian separatist forces, but Vladimir Putin claims he is still committed to a peace deal. Although authorities in Kiev have blamed Russia for inciting further violence, Putin believes the opposite is true and claims Kiev is unwilling to sit down with the rebels and discuss the implementation of the European-brokered peace deal agreed on in February in Minsk.
“The problem is that representatives of the current Kiev authorities do not even want to sit down to talks with them,” Putin said. “And there is nothing we can do about it.”
Putin also claimed that World War 3 fears were unjustified, claiming that Russia’s military would never suddenly attack NATO over the Ukraine crisis.
“I would like to say – there’s no need to be afraid of Russia,” Putin told the newspaper Corriere della Sera according to AFP. “The world has changed so much that people in their right mind cannot imagine such a large-scale military conflict today. We have other things to do, I can assure you. Only a sick person — and even then only in his sleep — can imagine that Russia would suddenly attack NATO.”
This statement is quite different from what Putin said during a private meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. During the course of their discussion, it was claimed that Vladimir Putin threatened World War 3.
“If I wanted, in two days I could have Russian troops not only in Kiev, but also in Riga, Vilnius, Tallinn, Warsaw and Bucharest.”
Fortunately, the Russian president has backed off from making such public statements, although Poroshenko believes the “colossal threat” of a Russian invasion of Ukraine is imminent.
Pope Francis also fears the possibility of World War 3, although the Catholic leader claims WW3 has already started. The Pope believes the many conflicts around the globe amount to “a kind of third world war being fought piecemeal and, in the context of global communications, we sense an atmosphere of war.”
According to The Catholic Herald, Vladimir Putin and Pope Francis are scheduled to meet in person this week on Wednesday. The Catholic leader has appealed multiple times for peace in Ukraine, and during Easter he said he hopes it is possible to “rediscover peace and hope thanks to the commitment of all interested parties.”
What do you think about the comments made by Vladimir Putin and Pope Francis?

The Adorable And Unforgettable Moment When A Baby Koala Hugs His Mother While She Is Having Life Saving Surgery

The Adorable And Unforgettable Moment When A Baby Koala Hugs His Mother While She Is Having Life Saving Surgery

Baby koala loves on his mom throughout life saving surgery.
Love is not just a human trait as an adorable baby koala proved as he clung tightly to his mom as she had life-saving surgery in Australia.
The heart touching moment took place on Sunday after the baby joey and her mom were hit by a car. The six-month-old joey, which has been named Phantom and weighs only 420 grams, was unharmed in the accident, but her mother, Lizzy, suffered a collapsed lung and required emergency surgery to drain her lung, reports the Daily Mail.
Mother and son were run down by a car on the Warrego Highway at Coominya.
Luckily, neither mother nor son suffered any broken bones in the accident. Lizzy underwent a procedure at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital to have her lung drained.
While doctors operated on Lizzy, Phantom refused to leave his mom’s side. Throughout the procedure the adorable joey hugged his mom and nestled close to her. At one point Phantom held his mom’s chin in his tiny paws.
Baby joey will not leave injured mom’s side.
Lizzy successfully made it through the life-saving procedure. Zoo doctors say that she is now on antibiotics.
Little Phantom has not left his mom’s side. While Lizzy was in recovery Phantom stayed perched on top of her head, reports Capital Bay News.
“Lizzy is in recovery and we’re happy to say she is going well,” said hospital vet nurse Jamie-Lynn Nevers. “It’s so rewarding to see patients like Lizzy doing well.”
The wildlife hospital located on the Sunshine Coast has treated 58,000 native animals in its 11-year history. The average koala treatment cost between $1,500 and $5,000.
“We’re busy at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital treating sick and injured native wildlife patients around the clock. Did you know that we’ve treated over 58,000 animals to date? But we can’t do it without your help, so be sure to visit us when you visit Australia Zoo and make a small donation to enter our sneak peek area. You’ll be able to see the vet team treating animals, and you’ll help us continue our important work!” a spokesperson posted to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital’s Facebook page.
The hospital has a dedicated group of wildlife veterinarians, a hospital manager, vet nurses and volunteers who work around the clock to provide first-class care for sick, injured and orphaned animals. The hospital team is also active in wildlife research to know more about koala diseases, migration patterns and wildlife health management.
It is uncertain at this time if Lizzy and Phantom will be returned to the wild or become residents of the zoo.

SHOCKING ATTACK IN FLORIDA, SHARK BITES BOY IN WASTE-HIGH WATER

Shocking Attack In Florida, Shark Bites Boy In Waist-High Water......

Bull Shark Bites Boy
A 10-year-old boy in Cocoa Beach, Florida is suffering from severe injuries after being bitten by a shark while playing in shallow water. The boy’s current condition still isn’t clear, and the bull shark forced other beachgoers out of the water for about an hour.
According to AJC, on Sunday morning, about 11 a.m., a juvenile bull shark bit the little boy on the right calf at Lori Wilson Park. The child was playing in waist-high water with his mother at the time.
Eisen Witcher, Brevard Ocean Rescue Assistant Chief, told CNN a lifeguard then came to the boy’s aid.
“Our lifeguard spotted the victim in the water when he saw he seemed to be in distress. He ran out there, saw that he had been bit, carried him out of the water and immediately performed emergency aid.”
The boy was rushed out of the beach park by a helicopter, which took him to an Orlando hospital.
Witcher went on to say that the bite was one of the worst they have seen in the area “mainly because of the size of the bite.” The ocean rescue group has already responded to 10 shark bites this year alone.
Stephanie Yelenosky, says she saw the shark moments before it bit the child, explaining that it was a juvenile bull shark.
“My daughter and I were way out on a surfboard and two big waves came in. On the second big wave, we saw what looked to be a juvenile bull shark. About 15 seconds later we saw a group of people in knee-high water and we heard screaming, so we knew that the shark probably had gotten confused or scared and took a bite at somebody.”
If the woman’s description is correct, it would be typical of bull sharks. According to National Geographic, the carnivorous animals like shorelines in warm, tropical areas. Bull sharks can even tolerate fresh water and swim some ways inland up rivers and tributaries.
Because of their aggressive nature and preferred territory, which often brings them close to humans, many experts consider them the most dangerous kind of shark – even worse than the much larger great white shark.
After the boy was bitten, officials closed down the beach for about an hour.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, some teenagers also suffered shark bites in Florida at the end of May, including a 14-year-old girl at Cocoa Beach. It seems like shark season in the state is in full swing – beachgoers beware.

Subject: Asparagus cancer cure...
DO NOT FAIL TO READ THIS AND SEND TO YOUR FAMILY & FRIENDS......

When I was in the USN, I was stationed in Key West, FL. I worked at the clinic at Naval Air Station on Big Coppitt Key just a few miles north of Key West. The hospital at Key West was for out- patients only, for retired armed forces personnel that lived in the area. If you needed to be hospitalized you were sent to Homestead AFB Florida.

I had the day off and just went inside the hospital (Corpman barracks were next to hospital). There was a retired Navy man that worked in the lab and he was very interesting gentleman to talk with. He was a retired biochemist from the USN. He asked me what was going on that day, and I said I had the day off. I wish I was working, as the crew on, today was taking a sailor to Homestead as he had a very bad kidney infection.

Now this elderly gent told me the man should have eaten more asparagus, and he wouldn't have that problem. I asked why? I'll never
forget him saying, do you eat asparagus? And I said yes, I love them. He replied you notice how your urine stinks after eating asparagus? I said well I never thought it was what I ate but yes it does have a pungent odor. He said, It is because it is detoxifying your body of harmful chemicals!!! This was back in 1986 when I was stationed there and to read this email again I had to share this story...Eat more asparagus, my friends.

Asparagus -- Who knew? My Mom had been taking the full-stalk canned style asparagus, pureed it and took 4 tablespoons in the morning and 4 tablespoons later in the day. She did this for over a month. She is on chemo pills for Stage 3 lung cancer in the pleural area and her cancer cell count went from 386 down to 125 as of this past week. Her oncologist said she will not need to see him for 3 months.

THE ARTICLE: Several years ago I met a man seeking asparagus for a friend who had cancer. He gave me a copy of an article, entitled "Asparagus For Cancer" printed in the Cancer News Journal, December 1979. I will share it here, just as it was shared with me:

I am a biochemist, and have specialized in the relation of diet to health for over 50 years. Several years ago, I learned of the discovery of Richard R. Vensal, D.D.S. that asparagus might cure cancer. Since then, I have worked with him on his project.
We have accumulated a number of favorable case histories. Here are a few examples:

Case No. 1, A man with an almost hopeless case of Hodgkin's disease (cancer of the lymph glands) who was completely incapacitated. Within 1 year of starting the asparagus therapy, his doctors were unable to detect any signs of cancer, and he was back on a schedule of strenuous exercise.

Case No. 2, A successful businessman, 68 years old, suffered from cancer of the bladder for 16 years. After years of medical treatments, including radiation without improvement, he began taking asparagus. Within 3 months, examinations revealed that his bladder tumor had disappeared and that his kidneys were normal.

Case No. 3, On March 5th 1971, a man who had lung cancer was put on the operating table where they found lung cancer so widely spread that it was inoperable. The surgeon sewed him up and declared his case hopeless. On April 5th he heard about the Asparagus therapy and immediately started taking it. By August, x-ray pictures revealed that all signs of the cancer had disappeared. He is now back at his regular business routine.

Case No. 4, A woman had been troubled for a number of years with skin cancer. She developed different skin cancers which were diagnosed by the acting specialist as advanced. Within 3 months after beginning asparagus therapy, the skin specialist said her skin looked fine with no more skin lesions. This woman reported that the asparagus therapy also cured her kidney disease, which had started in 1949. She had over 10 operations for kidney stones, and was receiving government disability payments for an inoperable, terminal, kidney condition. She attributes the cure of this kidney trouble entirely to the asparagus treatment.

I was not surprised at this result as `The elements of materia medica', edited in 1854 by a Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, stated that asparagus was used as a popular remedy for kidney stones. He even referred to experiments, in 1739, on the power of asparagus in dissolving stones. Note the dates! ---We would have other case histories but the medical establishment has interfered with our obtaining some of the records.

I am therefore appealing to readers to spread this good news and help us to gather a large number of case histories that will overwhelm the medical skeptics about this unbelievably simple and natural remedy. For the treatment, asparagus should be cooked before using.

Fresh or canned asparagus can be used. I have corresponded with the two leading canners of asparagus, Giant and Stokely, and I am satisfied that these brands contain no pesticides or preservatives. Place the cooked asparagus in a blender and liquefy to make a puree. Store in the refrigerator.

Give the patient 4 full tablespoons twice daily, morning and evening. Patients usually show some improvement in 2-4 weeks. It can be diluted with water and used as a cold or hot drink. This suggested dosage is based on present experience, but certainly larger amounts can do no harm and may be needed in some cases.

As a biochemist I am convinced of the old saying that `what cures can prevent.' Based on this theory, my wife and I have been using asparagus puree as a beverage with our meals. We take 2 tablespoons diluted in water to suit our taste with breakfast and with dinner. I take mine hot and my wife prefers hers cold. For years we have made it a practice to have blood surveys taken as part of our regular checkups. The last blood survey, taken by a medical doctor who specializes in the nutritional approach to health, showed substantial improvements in all categories over the last one, and we can attribute these improvements to nothing but the asparagus drink.

As a biochemist, I have made an extensive study of all aspects of cancer, and all of the proposed cures. As a result, I am convinced that asparagus fits in better with the latest theories about cancer. Asparagus contains a good supply of protein called histones, which are believed to be active in controlling cell growth. For that reason, I believe asparagus can be said to contain a substance that I call cell growth normalizer. That accounts for its action on cancer and in acting as a general body tonic.

In any event, regardless of theory, asparagus used as we suggest, is a harmless substance. The FDA cannot prevent you from using it and it may do you much good. It has been reported by the US National Cancer Institute, that asparagus is the highest tested food containing glutathione, which is considered one of the body's most potent anticarcinogens and antioxidants.

Texas policeman suspended after pulling gun on teen at pool party

AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - A Dallas-area policeman has been placed on administrative leave after a video surfaced in social media that showed him throwing a bathing-suit clad girl to the ground and drawing a gun on another at a pool party disturbance, officials said on Sunday.
"This video has raised concerns that are being investigated," the police department in McKinney, a city about 30 miles north of Dallas, said on Sunday.
The incident occurred on Friday and raised questions on social media about racial bias in policing since most of the people targeted by the officer, who appears in the video to be white, were black teens in a multi-race crowd.
In the video, the officer, who has not been named, is seen shouting obscenities at the teens and placing a black youth in handcuffs.
Another officer, who also appears to be white, is seen engaging with some of the teens in a cordial manner.
McKinney Police said officers were responding to a disturbance reported at a pool that is part of a residential community and many in the crowd refused to leave.
