family opens home to hospice kids

Sheboygan family opens home to hospice kids

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — Cori Salchert sits on a hospital bed parked in the middle of her living room, stroking the peach fuzz on top of the head of her 1-year-old son, newly adopted.

Charlie is at ease in his mother's arms, drifting off to the hum of his ventilator and other equipment in the room. But his mother, who adopted him knowing that he is expected to die soon, shakes her head at the surreal sight.

"The crazy thing is that kiddos with a lot of equipment were something that I never wanted to do," she said. "I was scared to death that I would accidentally hurt them."

The mom of eight biological children used to work as a registered nurse and perinatal bereavement specialist with the Sheboygan-based Hope After Loss Organization, a group that helps families cope with the loss of a pregnancy or newborn child. If parents were too overwhelmed with emotion to hold their baby whose pulse was waning, Salchert would cradle the child so "no one had to die alone."

Some parents whose children had a life-limiting diagnosis had to give up guardianship because of finances or inability to cope emotionally. Many of these babies spend their short lives in a bassinet in the corner of a hospital, perhaps never even being held if they are tube fed and do not need to be removed from the crib, she said.

"There was no judgment on my part that the parents should just be able to deal with the circumstances," Salchert said. "But I thought, 'Wow, I would really like to take those kiddos and care for them.' "

About five years ago, Cori Salchert was struck with an autoimmune disorder that caused gastrointestinal distress and required multiple surgeries that led to further complications. She said she couldn't continue work and felt hopeless.

"My prayer at that time was asking how God could possibly use this for good," she said. Her husband suggested that was the time to try to foster what Cori Salchert calls "hospice babies" through the treatment foster care program at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, which matches families with children who have significant to severe behavioral or medical challenges.

In August 2012, the Salcherts brought Emmalynn home to Sheboygan, about 60 miles north of Milwaukee. She did not have the left or right hemispheres of her brain, only the brain stem.  She lived 50 days.  Emmalynn passed away tucked into Cori Salchert's fuzzy green robe “like a kangaroo” while foster mother and daughter sat alone at the kitchen table one night. "Emmalynn lived more in 50 days than most people do in a lifetime," her foster mom said.

The Salcherts' next foster child was Jayden, who was able to overcome his medical challenges to become a thriving toddler. A cousin of the boy's biological parents ultimately adopted him.

With Emmalynn's death and Jayden leaving, the Salcherts were heartbroken. Cori Salchert recalls turning to her husband and saying she was done with treatment foster care, but he said this is what she was meant to do.

The Salcherts believe in the importance of involving their children in these decisions about foster care, so they rounded up the gang.

"Are you all ready to do this again?" Cori Salchert asked. She assured them it was OK if the answer were "No."
But their children all said, "Yes!"

Mary Elisabeth, one of the Salcherts' daughters, even piped up: "Mom, what if some kid really needs us and you're just sitting here with a broken heart?"

Amy Basting, a foster care recruitment specialist for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, said that while she deeply admires the Salcherts’ care for Emmalynn and Charlie, the majority of children in the hospital’s treatment foster care program aren't terminally ill. The hospital has locations in Milwaukee and Neenah, Wis.

“The situation where terminally ill children enter into treatment foster care is more of an exception than the norm. That is probably what makes the Salcherts so remarkable,” Basting said. “Treatment foster care often provides homes for children with a wide range of medical needs, but the majority do not have life-ending conditions.”

After the Salcherts talked with their children, called their social worker and were matched with Charlie a week later. The family was grateful for the hospitality of the Ronald McDonald House in Milwaukee while they learned how to care for him.

Charlie has hypoxic ischemic brain encephalopathy and has neurological impairments as a result of a lack of oxygen. He is dependent on a tracheostomy, ventilator, feeding tube and other equipment.

The first time Cori Salchert had to start working with Charlie's tubes, she broke down sobbing over his crib in front of the nurse who was training her, overwhelmed that the little boy would not be able to breathe and could suffer if she hesitated or made one wrong move.  "But, God told me, 'We're going to kick this fear in the butt,' " she said. "It's OK to be afraid, but never let fear cripple your life."  “Charlie is truly an amazing individual. He’s made us richer — more alive, in a sense.”
Charlie's care quickly became a part of the Salcherts' routine. The Salcherts adopted him Dec. 18.  But while Charlie has brought the Salcherts much joy, his new mom is quick to point out that the family is not perfect  and she isn't "supermom."

Her children have cried when she was forced to split time between hospital visits and birthday parties because Charlie was having a rough patch. She holds up a pair of her teenage son's boots, showing how the insides are tattered and must be digging into his heel.
She only just discovered it.

Like most families, the Salcherts still are improving communication with each other about their everyday needs. But overall, the happy moments come on the heels of a setback for Charlie.

Charlie’s older sisters love to climb into his bed and cuddle or watch movies. The family enjoys taking walks together in the summer and invested in a stylish pair of shades for Charlie to wear in the sun.

But the Salcherts don't ignore the reality of Charlie’s life-limiting diagnosis.

“He will die. There’s no changing that,” Cori Salchert said, brushing away a tear. “But we can make a difference in how he lives, and the difference for Charlie is that he will be loved before he dies.”

The Salcherts have relied on their faith for strength and comfort in raising Charlie and past foster children. Cori Salchert said she believes that Charlie will be able to “eat without a tube in heaven, and it will be the very best food.”

The family already has spoken with funeral directors and plans to send off balloons at his burial to “symbolize the setting free of Charlie’s soul” from the confines of his medical challenges.

“God is love, and he loves this little boy, and he loves us to love him," Mark Salchert said when asked why his family has chosen to care for children in danger of dying soon. "Charlie is truly an amazing individual. He’s made us richer — more alive, in a sense.”

His wife strokes Charlie’s tiny hand while cradling the fragile child in her arms.  “These children need nurses, but the overarching thing is they need moms,” she said. “Too many people never do anything because they can’t do everything and can’t save everyone. "For me, even though I can’t help every child I’m happy to make a difference in the lives of a few."

Donald Trump -  'I Know Words

Obama Is 'Stupid'

Published on Dec 30, 2015

Donald Trump said on Wednesday, “I know words, I have the best words. I have the best, but there is no better word than stupid.”

Speaking at a campaign rally in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Trump claimed, “The world has blown up around Barack Obama.”

Texas grocery store says OK to carry guns in store

Grocery Store Defies Anti-Gun Movement, Welcomes Open-carry Shoppers

Grocer placing trust in customers to “be responsible in our stores”

While other major grocery chains in Texas are opposing the open carry law set to go into effect on January 1, Ohio-based Kroger has no intention to bar its customers from bringing guns into their stores.

Grocers like H-E-B, Whole Foods, Sprouts and Randall’s now display appropriate signage informing customers that they “may not enter this property with a handgun that is carried openly.”

Kroger, which has several stores in Dallas and Houston, however, will not impose additional rules on gun owners.
Back in March, Kroger CFO Michael Schlotman revealed the store planned to abide by “local laws” whatever they may be.

“If the local gun laws are to allow open carry, we’ll certainly allow customers to do that based on what the local laws are,” Schlotman said appearing on CNBC’s Squawk Box. “We don’t believe it’s up to us to legislate what the local gun control laws should be. It’s up to the local legislators to decide to do that.”

“So we follow local laws [and] we ask our customers to be respectful to the other people they are shopping with. And we really haven’t had any issues inside of our stores as a result of that.”

Kroger’s refusal to bend to anti-gun fervor has made them the target of gun control groups such as the Michael Bloomberg-affiliated Moms Demand Action, which has targeted Kroger specifically for over a year and spent hundreds of thousands on failed campaigns like #groceriesnotguns.

Rather than capitulating to the pressure, the 2,400-plus store grocery chain has instead stated their commitment to trust their customers will do the right thing.
“The safety of our customers and associates is one of our most important company values. Millions of customers are present in our busy grocery stores every day and we don’t want to put our associates in a position of having to confront a customer who is legally carrying a gun. That is why our long-standing policy on this issue is to follow state and local laws and to ask customers to be respectful of others while shopping. We know that our customers are passionate on both sides of this issue and we trust them to be responsible in our stores.”
Meanwhile, others are pointing out the hypocrisy of some stores allowing concealed carry while refusing open carry.

“In the state of Texas, open carry is only be legal if the carrier also carries a concealed carry license,” writes Nick Leghorn for TheTruthAboutGuns.com. “Realistically, by adopting a policy of permitting concealed carry and banning open carry, H-E-B is simply saying is ‘when you come in here, just throw your shirt over your gun please.'”

When that day comes that some terrorist(s) decides to attack inside a grocery or other store, customers will rejoice that there were customers inside with guns who were able to stop the terrorist(s) from carrying out his plans. Until then, stupid is as stupid does - speaking of Moms Demand Action. Typical liberal mentality - UNTIL that time comes that THEY are the victims.

CHURCH GOERS BEWARE! ARE YOU IN A 501(C)3 GOVERNMENT CHURCH?

Churches are conducting "Holy Ghost pat-downs" and mass shooter drills

Police State America has invaded churches and places of worship in America. Churches now join private companies, schools, colleges, sports stadiums, malls and hospitals that are conducting active shooter drills. For more information, read my December article titled: 'Hospitals and private companies are conducting mass shooter drills with police.'

In Alabama, a Presbyterian church wanted to hire its own police for protection. And the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been holding specialized training for congregations for active shooter incidents.

Police across the country are speaking at places of worship, drumming up fear and telling churches to have greeters (security) welcome worshippers and look for anything that might be out of the ordinary.

This is unbelievable! It's like Monty Python's "Life of Brian" movie has come to life and worshippers are being spied on, mocked and persecuted by the Romans (American Police).

For those of you that don't know, FEMA became part of DHS in 2003. Click here to find out more.

DHS's 'Faith-Based Security And Communications Advisory Committee' (FBAC) boasts about their close relationship with chaplains and Faith Based Organizations (FBO's)...

1. DHS should identify and work with FBO's to establish a formal two-way process for sharing homeland security information.

2. DHS should designate points of contact to interact with faith-based communities.

"DHS should designate a senior level full time position with access to senior DHS leadership within the DHS Headquarters whose primary responsibility is sharing homeland security and threat information issues with the faith-based community."

"DHS should assign points of contact in each fusion center to work with their state and local faith communities."

Click here to learn about the NUMEROUS religious leaders working with DHS.
Just like the TSA which is run by DHS, churches have begun banning, diaper bags, backpacks and strollers.

FEMA/DHS has a website devoted to 'Protecting Houses of Worship' and offer FREE 'Active Shooter' training classes!  One class titled IS-914: Surveillance Awareness: What You Can Do, encourages faith leaders and worshippers to detect and report suspicious activities!

At the end of this course, the participants will be able to identify key considerations and strategies for preparing for mass casualty incidents, including: What they're really saying is, every worshipper is a potential terrorist. DHS/Police are using a free training program as a cover, to invade places of worship.

DHS openly admits their PRIMARY audience is the whole community...

Primary Audience

"The audience for this course is the whole community."

This past September, twenty-five Ohio churches conducted active shooter drills run by multiple law enforcement agencies.

Hosted at the Equipped City Church by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Columbus Police Department, the Hilliard Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, this training allowed church reps to experience the terror and realization of shooter situations.

Some Pastors even carry handguns...

Pastor, Dwayne Whitehead, carries a handgun at times and claims it’s more for personal safety than church security.

The Fraternal Order of Police and its members (police) are profiting from keeping fear alive at churches, synagogues etc.

“Your reaction to that is all the difference in the world,” Fraternal Order of Police President, Jason Pappas, said.  It's too bad Mr. Pappas was describing reacting to active shooters rather than telling the public the truth. Police have no problem stoking the flames of terror or mass-shooters, while laughing all the way to the bank.
Law enforcement is using chaplains to keep the public in a constant state of fear!

What is a chaplain?

Police are so intertwined with places of worship, it's sickening. A Dr., Police Chief and a Chaplain  co-authored 'Safety, Security, & Contingency Planning for Places of Worship and Faith Based Organizations.'

Chaplain Marcus Lane serves as State Associate Chaplain with the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police.
It's so bad, chaplains look just like police wearing badges and uniforms:

To learn more about chaplains and their close relationship with police, go to the International Conference of Police Chaplains website.

Churches are putting police officers on stage, setting up surveillance command centers, usingd dispatchers, mimicking police departments! Watch the video below...

Churches use surveillance cameras, cops and military personnel to spy on worshippers!
In June of this year, I warned everyone that churches are using facial recognition software to spy on their members.

"Churchix was originally developed by us for a chain of international churches, which wanted to follow up with membership attendance at its events. Today it’s being used at a number of other churches in the US and in Indonesia” Moshe Greenshpan, the company’s CEO said."“I can tell you in general that churches also don’t like to be described as privacy invaders,” said Greenshpan.

And in October of this year, I warned everyone that churches across the country are PAYING the gov't up to $100.00 a month to spy on families.

Church leaders are openly encouraged to collaborate with the gov'tReligious organizations are spying on families to help the gov't decide whether they should remove children from their families!

Police State America is so bad, a cop working security at a church pointed his gun at a man who banged on a church door during services...

Police confronted a white man outside the predominately black United Nations Church International in Virginia. He was beating on a door outside the church, allegedly yelling racial slurs and threatening the congregation.

"A police officer working security at the church in the 5200 block of Midlothian Turnpike pointed a gun at the man, thinking he had a knife. The man actually had a long piece of plastic he used to bang on the door, police said."

Churches are also using Roll Call Check-In or Church ID cards to spy on their members:

Another church surveillance company called ChurchTrac claims they are being used by thousands of churches. ChurchTrac boasts about charging churches based on the total number of names they enter into their database!

Is it really free for small churches?

With ChurchTrac Basic (the installable edition), you can enter up to 100 individuals into the database for free. To enter more than 100 names, you need to purchase an unlock code. With ChurchTrac Online (the web-based edition), the price for a small church is still very affordable, about $2 a week for small churches.
How much does it cost to enter more names?

To find out more about church surveillance read is "God is Watching, and So Am I: The Theology of Surveillance."

DHS has also created a "Guide for Developing High-Quality Emergency Operations Plans for Houses of Worship."

What will it take for Americans to put a stop to the police state? Will people finally speak out when police conduct active shooter drills in their homes? Where does it end?

http://massprivatei.blogspot.com/2015/12/churches-are-conducting-holy-ghost-pat.html

In muslim America, churches had better have their own armed security details at all times, especially during worship services or fellowship.  Do not take for granted that churches are exempt from attack - they WILL be attacked by the muslims - doors locked and all inside shot, die by suicide bombers and/or burned to death. This is common in the Middle Eastern and African nations.  BEWARE and BE PREPARED!!!!  Your lives will  depend on it.

A series of mysterious hole punch clouds

A series of mysterious hole punch clouds appeared in the sky of   Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama on December 29, 2015

These fallstreak clouds punched gaping holes in the skies across the South

These weird clouds form when water vapor is suspended in subfreezing air, but the vapor has not frozen because there is a lack of particles for it to freeze around.
When particles are then introduced, the vapor starts to freeze and falls towards the surface, leaving a void or hole at cloud level, but streaks of cloud underneath.

Jailed for preaching against Islam?

Irish pastor refuses to back down from declaring Holy Scripture

Retired Pastor James McConnell is waiting to see if his next sermon will be given from a prison pulpit. His crime? On May 18, 2014, the 79-year-old pastor, speaking at the church he founded in Belfast, Ireland, preached a sermon on 1 Timothy 2:5: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

Pastor McConnell says he wrote that sermon to protest “… the terrible injustice done to a young Muslim woman named Miriam Ibrahim who was converted to Christianity and for marrying a Christian man. Miriam Ibrahim was pregnant and was to receive eighty lashes and possibly martyrdom.”

As WND previously reported, McConnell stated in part of his sermon, “Islam’s ideas about God, about humanity, about salvation are vastly different from the teaching of the Holy Scriptures. Islam is heathen. Islam is satanic. Islam is a doctrine spawned in hell.”

With that public statement, things began to go very wrong for the pastor. Northern Ireland’s Public Prosecution Service (PPS) determined that McConnell – whose sermon was streamed live on the Internet – violated the 2003 Communications Act by “sending, or causing to be sent, by means of a public electronic communications network, a message or other matter that was grossly offensive.”

Pastor McConnell was taken to trial on the charge last month at Belfast Magistrates' Court, and the decision of the court is expected on Tuesday.

"I believe, for the prosecution, this is a hot potato," McConnell said at the time. "They don't know how to handle it."

He said he was "looking forward to testifying if they give me a chance. Either they try me and put me in prison or I am free to preach the gospel."

Hundreds of supporters turned out to stand with the pastor.

His lawyer said before the trial there was a multitude volunteering to speak on behalf of the preacher.

"We have been inundated with scores of potential witnesses who wish to give evidence on behalf of Pastor McConnell," the lawyer said.

Speaking to the News Letter on Friday, Pastor McConnell was optimistic, but said that before he will renounce his beliefs, he would prefer imprisonment: "I am willing to go to jail and I am going to stand for what I believe in. If the verdict goes against me – and they do put me in jail – there will be such an uprising in this country."

BibleMcConnell's legal woes for speaking publicly about Islam are not unique. Government fines and punishments levied against Christians practicing their faith is the norm in many Middle Eastern nations.

Some recent examples include:
But increasingly, speaking out against Islam from a biblical position is coming into conflict with hate-speech legislation in many Western nations

In 2007, the U.N. Human Rights Council adopted a resolution that "defamation of religion ... leads to violations of human rights" and stated that "... freedom of expression ... should be exercised with responsibility and may therefore be subject to limitations" expressly deploring "the use of the print, audio-visual and electronic media, including the Internet ... to incite ... xenophobia or related intolerance and discrimination toward Islam. ..."

In 2007, the Ontario Provincial Human Rights Commission, acting on complaints by the Canadian Islamic Congress, opened an investigation of Maclean's magazine for publishing excerpts of Mark Steyn's book "America Alone." Following massive public protest, the case was finally dropped. But in a letter to Maclean's, Jennifer Lynch, the head of the Canadian Human Rights Commission, wrote: "Mr. Steyn would have us believe that words, however hateful, should be give free reign [sic]. History has shown us that hateful words sometimes lead to hurtful actions that undermine freedom and have led to unspeakable crimes. That is why Canada and most other democracies have enacted legislation to place reasonable limits on the expression of hatred."

More recently, the Quebec National Assembly has taken up Bill 59 which would assign new powers to the Quebec Human Rights Commission (QHRC) to combat hate speech, allowing for the censoring of speech that promotes "fear of the other." The bill would also allow the QHRC to prosecute websites that disparage or denounce Islam. Currently, Bill 59 remains in the Assembly for review and amendment.

The U.S. has seen a large increase in attacks on the right of conscience and association for Christians, especially in the realm of homosexual rights and marriage.

Until recently, the First Amendment right to free speech has blocked attempts by Washington to impose limits on unflattering opinions or descriptions of Islam and of its radical adherents, but this situation may be changing.

In 2013, Bill Killian, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee, attended a public meeting in Tullahoma to discuss how combat those who violate Muslim civil rights by posting inflammatory documents targeting Muslims on social media.

"This is an educational effort with civil rights laws as they play into freedom of religion and exercising freedom of religion," Killian told the Tullahoma News. "This is also to inform the public what federal laws are in effect and what the consequences are."

More recently, Attorney General Loretta Lynch has threatening legal action against any "anti-Muslim rhetoric" that "edges toward violence."

Last month, 82 Democrat congressional sponsors introduced HR 569. The resolution, which is still in committee, condemns "...violence, bigotry, and hateful rhetoric towards Muslims in the United States" and "... denounces in the strongest terms the increase of hate speech ... targeted against mosques, Muslims, or those perceived to be Muslim."

As WND previously noted, the decision that results from the case, which is based on the pastor’s description of Islam as a “doctrine spawned in hell,” could determine whether Christian pastors will be allowed to preach biblical doctrine in the United Kingdom going forward.

Meanwhile Pastor McConnell, one of Ireland's most popular online evangelists, waits in the church he founded 57 years ago. He remains defiant: "As I have said many times I refuse to be gagged and if necessary will go to prison; but be assured, when I come out I will start again and preach the truth of the gospel!

Your prayers are appreciated, but there is Someone very special praying for me and His Name is Jesus. He is my Great High Priest who stands for me and His blood-redeemed people in the presence of God."
