The FBI, The CIA, Homeland Security, The Federal Reserve And Potential Employers Are All Monitoring You On Facebook And Twitter

Why is there such a sudden obsession with monitoring what average Americans are saying on Facebook and Twitter?  To be honest, the vast majority of what is being said on Facebook and Twitter is simply not worth reading even if you could understand it.  But for the FBI, the CIA, the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Reserve, Facebook and Twitter represent a treasure trove of intelligence information.  

Tens of millions of us have compiled incredibly detailed dossiers on ourselves and have put them out there for the entire world to see.  Since the information is public, the various alphabet agencies of the federal government see no problem with scooping up all of that information and using it for their own purposes.  

Many potential employers have also discovered that Facebook and Twitter can tell them an awful lot about potential employees.  Social media creates a permanent record that reflects who you are and what you believe, and many Americans are finding out that all of this information can come back and haunt them in a big way.  

In the world in which we now live, privacy is becoming a thing of the past, and we all need to be mindful of the things that we are exposing to the public.

Sadly, most Americans have absolutely no idea who is monitoring them on Facebook, Twitter and other social media websites these days.  The following are just a few examples….

Potential Employers

If you apply for a job at a big company, there is a very high probability that the company will want to check out what you have been doing on Facebook and Twitter.

According to one recent survey, approximately 90 percent of all human resources professionals check out the social media accounts of potential employees.

If you are applying for a job at a small business, there is probably much less of a chance that your social media accounts will be checked, but the reality is that all of us need to understand how the world is changing.

Some employers, colleges and government agencies are even taking things a step further.  Now some of them are actually demanding to be allowed in to the Facebook accounts of applicants.  The following is from a recent Daily Mail article….

Rather than trying to get around the pesky password protections of Facebook and email accounts, certain government agencies and colleges are cutting straight to the source.
Some extremely inquisitive employers are asking candidates to hand over them their email and Facebook login information when they apply for a job.
Others strongly request that the candidate opens their pages in front of them and allow their would-be bosses to scroll through their private information during the interview.

How would you feel if someone forced you to hand over the passwords to your social media accounts?  At some U.S. colleges, this is actually happening.  As MSNBC recently described, some college sports teams are actually requiring coaches to continually monitor, and have access to, all social media accounts of team members….

A recent revision in the handbook at the University of North Carolina is typical:
“Each team must identify at least one coach or administrator who is responsible for having access to and regularly monitoring the content of team members’ social networking sites and postings,” it reads. “The athletics department also reserves the right to have other staff members monitor athletes’ posts.”

This is beyond creepy, but this is the world in which we live.

The FBI

The FBI has also decided that it needs to continuously monitor Facebook, Twitter and other social media websites.  The following is from an article posted on zdnet.com….

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is looking to develop a Web app that can continuously monitor social networks, including Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace, as well as various news feeds. The organization’s goal is to improve its real-time intelligence when it comes to current and emerging security threats.

The CIA

The CIA is a long way ahead of the FBI in monitoring social media.  If you are an “activist” on the Internet, the CIA probably knows you very well.  The following is from a recent USA Today article….

In an anonymous industrial park in Virginia, in an unassuming brick building, the CIA is following tweets — up to 5 million a day.
At the agency’s Open Source Center, a team known affectionately as the “vengeful librarians” also pores over Facebook, newspapers, TV news channels, local radio stations, Internet chat rooms — anything overseas that anyone can access and contribute to openly.

The Department Of Homeland Security

Department of Homeland Security Undersecretary Caryn Wagner made headlines all over the world a while back when she announced that the Department of Homeland Security would be “gleaning information from sites such as Twitter and Facebook for law enforcement purposes.”

So exactly what does that mean?

Well, apparently the Department of Homeland Security is actually setting up fake accounts and using them to monitor social media networks for information.  The following is from a recent Daily Mail article….

The Department of Homeland Security makes fake Twitter and Facebook profiles for the specific purpose of scanning the networks for ‘sensitive’ words – and tracking people who use them.

That same article detailed what some of those “sensitive words” are a few paragraphs later….

The DHS outlined plans to scans blogs, Twitter and Facebook for words such as ‘illegal immigrant’, ‘outbreak’, ‘drill’, ‘strain’, ‘virus’, ‘recovery’, ‘deaths’, ‘collapse’, ‘human to animal’ and ‘trojan’, according to an ‘impact asssessment’ document filed by the agency.

It is interesting that the Department of Homeland Security considers “collapse” to be such an important keyword.

Does that mean that every time “The Economic Collapse Blog” is mentioned on Facebook or Twitter the Department of Homeland Security is alerted?

That is a sobering thought.

The U.S. Air Force

It turns out that the U.S. Air Force also wants to do more to monitor social media.  The following is from a recent article by Madison Ruppert….

Dr. Mark Maybury, the United States Air Force Chief Scientist, is stepping outside of the typical areas in which an Air Force Chief Scientist operates and into the digital realm.
Maybury seeks to develop something he has dubbed “Social Radar” which would monitor information coming from just about every source imaginable: television, all Internet communications, radio, official reports, and more, in order to look into the hearts and minds of target populations and perhaps even predict future events.

The Federal Reserve

According to CNBC, the Federal Reserve “is planning on monitoring what you say about it on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook”.

Aren’t they supposed to be “above politics”?

So why is the Fed so concerned about what we are all saying about it?

Why is there a need to perform “sentiment analysis” on what is being said about the Federal Reserve on “Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Forums and YouTube“?

Are they going to change their policies based on public opinion.

That seems highly unlikely.

Considering the fact that the Fed is setting up a system that would identify “key bloggers” and monitor “billions of conversations” on the Internet, it seems more likely that they are primarily interested in identifying critics of the Federal Reserve.

So once they have that information, what do they plan to do with it?

In the end, a lot of people are going to be scared away from Facebook and Twitter by all of this.
But the truth is that Facebook and Twitter can also be incredibly powerful tools for spreading the truth.

In the old days, it was nearly impossible for an average American to communicate to a mass audience.

Today, someone sitting alone in their own home can put something on the Internet that could potentially be seen by tens of millions of people.

The Internet has empowered average Americans unlike almost anything else that we have seen.
That is why the establishment feels so threatened by it.

We now have the power to directly talk with one another instead of going through establishment-controlled channels.

So let them see what we are talking about if they want to.

Perhaps some of them will wake up too.

China, Switzerland to announce offshore yuan trading center in Zurich
January 21, 2015, 5:10 am

Europe is China’s biggest trading partner and the euro has now become an alternative for Beijing’s growing currency reserves [Xinhua]

As China takes it currency global, Zurich is set to become a center for yuan trading in Europe with Chinese and Swiss officials poised to sign a financial deal on Wednesday.

“A memorandum of understanding will be signed between the central banks of the two countries during Chinese Premier Li Keqiang’s visit to Switzerland. It is an important step in the internationalization of the RMB, especially in Europe,” a government official was quoted by Chinese news agency Xinhua.
Switzerland is basing its push for the offshore yuan business on the country’s close ties with China, one of the nation’s biggest trading partner. Switzerland is the first country among the world’s top 20 to have a free trade agreement with China.
The Chinese and Swiss central banks already signed a bilateral currency swap agreement worth 150 billion yuan (24 billion dollars), in July last year.
Under the deal to be signed on Wednesday, China will give Switzerland a quota of 50 billion yuan (about $8 billion), under its Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (QFII) scheme to support the establishment of the Zurich offshore RMB market.
The first branch of a Chinese bank will be set up in the Swiss financial hub for future RMB clearance after it gets approval from regulators of both sides.
China has established offshore RMB markets in Hong Kong, London, among other places, in a drive for the internationalization of its currency.
The world’s second-largest economy started pushing for the great use of the yuan outside the mainland in 2010.

Morgellons is being distributed with many different types of viruses, fungus and bacteria.

ASTEROID TO PASS CLOSE TO EARTH NEXT WEEK

Asteroid to pass close to Earth next week

The asteroid 2004 BL86 is slated to come within approximately 745,000 miles of our planet next Monday, Jan. 26, 2015. 

Calling all amateur astronomers! Grab your best binoculars and scout out your favorite star-gazing spot, because next week, you’ll have the extremely rare opportunity to watch a very large asteroid make its way past Earth.

At about a third of a mile in size, the asteroid 2004 BL86 is slated to come within approximately 745,000 miles of our planet next Monday, Jan. 26. That may sound like a huge distance, but it’s the closest a space rock will come to Earth until 2027 — and the closest 2004 BL86 will get for at least 200 years — offering scientists an exciting opportunity to get a good look at such a large asteroid without posing any threat to the planet. It's an opportunity for space enthusiasts as well, as the asteroid is predicted to be visible in the Northern Hemisphere, through little more than a small telescope or a quality pair of binoculars.

According to NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, NASA’s Deep Space Network and the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico plan to observe the asteroid with microwaves, taking sonogram-like radar images of the space rock before and after its trip past Earth in order to learn more about it.

“At present, we know almost nothing about the asteroid, so there are bound to be surprises,” said Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Lance Benner, the principal radar astronomer investigating the asteroid.

Even after 16 years as manager of NASA’s Near Earth Object Program, space veteran Don Yeomans’s excitement about the asteroid offers a clue to just how unique 2004 BL86’s flyby actually is.

“I may grab my favorite binoculars and give it a shot myself,” Yeomans said. “Asteroids are something special. Not only did asteroids provide Earth with the building blocks of life and much of its water, but in the future, they will become a valuable resource for mineral ores and other vital natural resources. They will also become the fueling stops for humanity as we continue to explore our solar system.

“There is something about asteroids that makes me want to look up,” he said.

Russia Strikes Back at Obama's State of the Union Comments

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has lashed out at U.S. President Barack Obama's criticism of the Kremlin's actions in Ukraine.

 

Lavrov, during his annual press briefing, denied allegations of fresh Russian military backing for separatists and accused the U.S. of seeking world domination.

 

Lavrov spoke Wednesday ahead of a meeting in Berlin to discuss Ukraine. He went on to say that the U.S. has set an "aggressive" course. But he said Moscow continues to cooperate with the West on fighting terrorism, despite the tensions over Ukraine.

Lavrov lashes out

 

Lavrov said Obama's comments showed the U.S. has adopted a policy of confrontation and has failed to assess its own actions.

 

During his State of the Union address Tuesday, Obama said U.S. support for Ukraine was a principled stand against Russia's bullying of a smaller state. The U.S. president also noted its allies were united against Russia's aggression, while Moscow faced diplomatic isolation and a tattered economy.

 

Lavrov said the U.S. had pressured allies such as Europe and Japan to gang up on Russia.  He said Tuesday's speech by the president shows that at the center of that philosophy is only one thing: 'We are number one and everyone else has to respect that.' Lavrov said this is a little outdated and does not reflect today's reality. It demonstrates, he said, that the U.S. wants to dominate the world and cannot merely be first among equals.

 

Russia's foreign minister said Western attempts to isolate it would fail.

 

Russia's economy

 

Western nations hit Russia with economic and diplomatic sanctions after the Kremlin annexed Ukraine's Crimean peninsula last March. They widened the sanctions against Moscow after accusing it of sending weapons and troops in eastern Ukraine to support pro-Russia separatists and thereby maintain leverage over the European-leaning government in Kyiv.

 

The Russian government continues to deny it is helping the rebels militarily.

 

The sanctions have helped push Russia's economy into recession as the price of oil, its major export, dropped by more than half.

 

Lavrov rejected accusations Wednesday by Kyiv that Russia sent fresh troops and weapons this week to support the separatists.

 

He said Russia has heard the accusations concerning the flow of troops and weapons many times, and that if there is such certainty, then present the evidence. No one is able to provide us with the evidence, he said, or does not want to provide it.

When asked by a Ukrainian journalist about published photos of Russian weapons made only for domestic use turning up in eastern Ukraine, Lavrov said more proof was needed. He then turned the accusation back on the West, claiming European and NATO member-supplied weapons were flowing into the conflict zone, which he said violates their own codes.

 

Russia has resisted efforts by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to increase monitoring of the Russia-Ukraine border.

 

Nonetheless, the Russian foreign minister said Moscow was willing to help facilitate a new cease-fire to stop fighting, which has killed nearly 5,000 people.

 

Lavrov said they already  have received assurances from the rebels that they will withdraw heavy weapons not from the actual front line, but from the line that Kyiv is insisting on. So now, he said, the ball is in the Ukrainian leadership's court.

 

Lavrov joins foreign ministers from France, Germany, and Ukraine in Berlin later Wednesday to discuss the crisis and a possible summit meeting in Kazakhstan at the end of the month.

 

A meeting between representatives of the OSCE, Russia, Ukraine, and the separatists that was to be held last week fell through as fighting over a key airport in east Ukraine intensified.
