Hi, Folks -
From a 2007 PBS show, "My Music: 50's Pop Parade", here's Ed Ames (1927-) at age 80, singing "My Cup Runneth Over" and "Try To Remember".
"My Cup Runneth Over" was written by Harvey Schmidt, lyrics by Tom Jones, for the Broadway musical "I Do! I Do!" Ames' 1967 recording of the song reached #8 on the Pop chart.
"Try To Remember" was also written by Harvey Schmidt, lyrics by Tom Jones, for the musical comedy "The Fantasticks", which opened off-Broadway in 1960 and ran for 17,162 performances, making it the longest-running musical in the _world_. The final performance of the original production was January 13, 2002 (42 years after opening).
"Try to Remember" was originally sung by Jerry Orbach, who left this sphere in December 2004. Orbach had played the character "Lennie Briscoe" for 12 years in TV's "Law & Order" series.
The song charted three separate times in 1965, with recordings by Ed Ames, Roger Williams, and The Brothers Four.
