Friday Morning News Summaries
Here are a few good bones to gnaw on for the day.....I believe strongly that the events from Iraq could be most interesting to watch unfold for this weekend.....maybe a little slow and dry at the beginning.....but starting tomorrow....it could be an interesting love/hate story in the works.
Reference to speed up the adoption of the two laws and reiterates its message implied Al-Maliki to step down
Two things....speed up the budget approval process, and with regard to the law of the Federal Court....don't get in the way of progress for naming a new Prime Minister.
Citizen: the National Alliance will choose its candidate for prime minister before the hearing next Tuesday
So the National Alliance is saying they will have a meeting before the next session of Parliament, next Tuesday, to decide who their nominee will be for Prime Minister.....they have several qualified candidates to choose from....will it be M....or perhaps a new M that we have not heard much from in the past....at least for now "mmmm's" the word.
....
Chihod: Masum cost-Maliki to form a government within the next few days
The State of Law is accusing the National Alliance of forging evidence that would show the National Alliance as the biggest Parliament bloc....maybe the SOL needs to go back to 2010 and review what it was they got the Federal Courts to do then....I don't believe that effort has been turned around....has nothing to do with forged documents.....just in how Maliki chooses to see things at some particular point in time....of course the way must be of his liking at the time.
Download new oil tanker Kurdistan
Well the crude oil saga continues.....the Kurds have quite a bit of oil floating on the ocean now.....not an environmental joke....just the truth....and now they intend to load another tanker, I would presume with another million barrels of crude oil....this becomes a costly way to store things for someone over time.....I hope they have better luck with this tanker....they get enough tankers floating on the oceans of the world and pirates are going to start making advances....not a good thing.
Activists call the million signature campaign to prosecute al-Maliki
They talk about following the wishes of the people in their election processes....the Iraqis could be generating some interesting efforts....should they gain the signatures they seek to allegedly prosecute Maliki....how long will that take and have they only just begun....who knows....but time grow short I believe.
Trial Nuri al-Maliki is evidenced by the investigation
This list of Maliki's continues to grow according to this article.....I wonder.....how it would compare to equivalent lists compiled about others around the world.....interesting concept....what may just carry some much needed weight with such an investigation is that it seems to be gaining in international interest....and the fact that many claims are crimes against humanity which carry no statute of limitation.
Iraq’s President Threatens to Resign as Deadlock Ensues over Prime Minister
Ok, gut instinct is kicking in here.....not that I disbelieve this article....I just don't feel completely good about it....yet. Sure I can see Massoum making the statement that he allegedly has made.....especially that concerning Maliki "urging" Massoum to nominate him.....I believe he is a wise man to say that he needs "clear support of all Iraqi factions" regarding the decision of who will be the next PM for Iraq.....he appears to be saying....."I will not be bullied".....so back off buster.
Bookmark calls to speed up the adoption of laws and reiterates its implied for the owners to step down from his post
Speed up the process to approve the budget....where have we heard that cry before.....and also the cry for politicians to not stand in the way of formation of the new government, meaning the Prime Minister and his Council of Ministers.....this comes from the religious leaders of Iraq....no doubt the budget remains important in Iraq.....the question is still paramount in whether Baghdad and Erbil can iron out disagreements.....while at the same time Parliament wrestles with who stands at the top of the heap....is it State of Law or someone else.
Who is the next prime minister, and what happens in the corridors of Baghdad?
An interesting article that poses the real time question....who is to be the new PM for Iraq.....will the position be retained by Maliki.....or will the wishes of the people, the religious sector, the Iranians, the US, and others be granted and have Maliki dethroned this time around.....regardless of what the media continues to spew forth.....I do believe in the coming days we will have our answer....right or wrong....an announcement is forthcoming....maybe on Sunday....maybe next week....but by the 8th we should know.
Intention to deny the infallible naming Maliki's coalition biggest bloc
Kurdish PUK party members are saying that any news about Maliki gaining a third term are unfounded and unofficial at this time...from a strict constitutional standpoint, it is the President's responsibility to designate the largest bloc within Parliament who then has the responsibility of naming a Prime Minister candidate.....one has to ask oneself....had the April 30 election results been different, had they been a repeat of 2010....would Maliki be hanging onto the the National Alliance for dear life so as to build hopefully the largest "bloc" within Parliament.....from the sounds of things for 2014 this process has not changed from 2010.....but yet now Maliki wants to solely claim victory based on the singular performance of the State of Law by itself.....it is called "having your cake and eating it too."......by being in charge Maliki believes he owns all the marbles that are in play.
Erbil is looking to recognize American independence through arms deal
The Kurds are clamoring to the US that they need arms in order to defend themselves effectively against terrorists....lately they have made enough noise to get the attention of at least some in Washington DC to the point they are considering measures that could be used to help strengthen the Kurd efforts against terrorists.....JMO....but how could the US turn down efforts by anyone like the Kurds who are proving they are indeed fighting against terrorism......oh yes, just like there is Erbil and Baghdad....there is Washington and Congress.....n'er do the two rarely meet in agreement....meanwhile the US agrees to "study" things....meaning that nothing or little of nothing will be done any time soon...and definitely no arms will be forthcoming directly to the Kurds....so the saga continues and the Kurds continue to get treated like wayward stepchildren.
Flights Over Iraq Restricted by U.S. FAA Due to Conflict
Flights over Iraq by US aircraft are now limited to no lower than 30,000 feet for fear of skirmishes on the ground with terrorists that might have fire power enough to damage aircraft flying any lower.
Fuad Masum, and the challenges of the presidency of Iraq
Simple point in question here.....does President Massoum have what it takes to follow established constitutional guidelines in getting an individual nominated and elected for the position of Prime Minister......he has come out today and said he will not nominate anyone that does not have the approval of all sectors and factions....he would step down instead. This is not an easy choice or process for him to make or go through at this point.....it is time to see how big his stick is and how well he can withstand existing power's to be within the Iraqi governmental framework.
Sistani's call for assigning the biggest bloc, the Shiite government over conflict
This article basically confirms that there remains much name calling and finger pointing within Iraq. The clerics of Iraq keep pushing for what they believe is to be right.....their voice is definitely heard by most Shiites, perhaps all that are not associated with the State of Law in some way.....it is recognized that there needs to be one candidate presented to Parliament....it just remains to be seen who that candidate will be....Maliki...or some other Shiite choice.....this weekend promises to be the first quarter for some exciting Iraqi political-motivated sporting events....stay tuned.
Iraqi foreign minister blames Maliki for Islamist insurgency
According to the Foreign Minister Zebari, Maliki is responsible for the rise of Sunni militants who have seized parts of Iraq...also for the rise of what is becoming known as the Islamic State....the ISIL terrorist group.....Zebari, a Kurd, who Maliki claimed last month abandoned his role as Foreign Minister when the Kurds walked out of Baghdad....Maliki almost immediately and perhaps illegally as well inserted al-Shahristani in his place.....not much has changed since then.....
I'm not so sure of what would change going forward if Maliki were left to rule the roost in Iraq either.....
but as for an interesting weekend.....we should be getting some popcorn ready I think.....
the dialogue may be a bit difficult to follow but sometimes the actions definitely are more descriptive than words can be.
Well here is some things to ponder for the morning.
