TOP PICK FOR TRUMP'S VP REVEALED AND IT'S NOT WHO ANY OF US THOUGHT!
In a surprising new poll, Americans listed retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson as their top pick to be Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate if he wins the Republican Party’s presidential nomination.
According to WND, 11 percent of respondents in the Morning Consult poll listed Carson as their top pick for Trump’s second in command.
Trump’s top rivals for the Republican nomination — Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz — tied for second at 9 percent.
Another rival, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, came in fourth with 8 percent, tied with Trump endorser and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
Two other major Trump enemies scored surprisingly high in the poll. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who sparred vehemently with Trump during his unsuccessful run for the GOP nomination, had 4 percent. South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who endorsed Rubio and gave a State of the Union response in which she criticized Trump’s campaign, got 2 percent.
Other interesting figures in the poll included “Morning Joe” host and former representative from Florida Joe Scarborough, who received 1 percent support, and Dallas Mavericks owner and fellow reality star Mark Cuban, who polled at 2 percent.
Perhaps most surprising were the 38 percent of respondents who didn’t know or had no opinion about the vice presidential candidate.
In a year where anti-establishment candidates have done well, Carson may not have seemed a surprising choice for Trump. After all, in addition to Carson’s anti- establishment credentials, his race would also give Democrats a difficult time either painting Trump as racist or taking the black vote for granted.
However, Carson and Donald Trump had frequently fought on the campaign trail, particularly when Carson’s poll numbers were approaching those of the real estate mogul’s. Trump went on a number of tirades about Carson’s life story last autumn, accusing him of making up some of the incidents in his autobiography which indicated he had a violent youth.
In particular, Trump took issue with an anecdote where Carson had claimed he had tried to stab an acquaintance but was stopped by the man’s belt buckle:
“So I have a belt, somebody hits me with a belt, it’s going in because the belt moves this way. It moves this way, it moves that way,” Trump sarcastically said to a campaign audience in November.
“He hit the belt buckle. Anybody have a knife? Want to try it on me? Believe me, it ain’t gonna work. You’re going to be successful, but he took the knife and went like this and he plunged it into the belt and, amazing, the belt stayed totally flat and the knife broke."
The poll was conducted on Feb. 26 and 27. It has a margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points.
