MIAMI (AP) - Forecasters say Hurricane Joaquin has strengthened to "an extremely dangerous Category 4 hurricane."

The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Thursday afternoon that additional strengthening is expected over the next 24 hours, as the storm moves past the Bahamas, bringing winds, heavy rain, dangerous surf and significant storm surge.

The storm has maximum sustained winds of 130 mph and is moving southwest at 6 mph. It is about 70 miles south-southeast of San Salvador, Bahamas.  A hurricane watch is in effect for much of the Bahamas and other nearby islands.

Forecasters say the center of Joaquin should move over or near portions of the central Bahamas Thursday afternoon and night.

Forecast maps show the storm passing the Bahamas and then making its way toward the U.S. over the next couple of days.

LETTING YOU KNOW THAT OUR AREA IS IN THE BULL'S EYE FOR THIS ONE/TWO PUNCH FROM (haarp? weather wars?) WE ARE IN THE FAR NORTHEASTERN SECTION OF OUR STATE. WE CAN WALK A BLOCK AND LOOK DOWN ON THE SUSQUEHANNA RIVER, WHERE IT MEETS CHESAPEAKE BAY. WE ARE ABOUT 200 FEET ABOVE SEA LEVEL, SO FLOODING MAY NOT BE AN ISSUE. IF THE STORM COMES UP THE BAY OR HUGS THE COASTS OF DELAWARE, NEW JERSEY, WE MAY BE WITHOUT POWER FOR A WHILE AND OFFLINE.

I have learned for an experienced minister about how to pray against hurricanes and tornados, etc. You pray against the eye of the storm which is the power point of the storm. pray that the eye of Joaquin dies out, disintegrates then the storm will lose its power. Have done this a lot. We prayed one time against a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico and it was a forceful storm, after we prayed, it stalled in the Gulf lost most of its power then came on in to land with mostly rain and really on damage. God can over power any thing man has to try to control weather. That is God's business, not mans. Have a blessed day. I am praying with you against that storm, Joaquin.

Agree with you completely. Those who walk with the Lord and know Him - and He knows you - we have power in His name. Have also prayed against storms, including tornadoes - and they have dissipated! Here's one verse that illusstrates our p ower when joined together in unity in Him: Le 26:8 And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword. You and I already have experienced what each one of us can do! Let's agree to join forces and put a stop to this threat!!! Blessings!
