Hi John
Let’s play an imagine game for a moment.
Let’s say I told you that I had just gotten some new, highly efficient motor oil that could make a car run like new, it never needed to be changed and it could help your vehicle last 5 years longer than it normally would.
You’d probably be pretty intrigued!
Then let’s say I decided to test it—so I drained all the old oil out of my vehicle, poured about 1/2 cup of the new oil into my engine and attempted to drive around…
And a few seconds later when I realized my engine was going to blow, I stopped and dumped about 50 quarts of the oil into my engine and started it up.
After the smoke cleared and the fire department hosed everything down, I concluded that the oil is no good, it’s not worth all the “hype” and is actually harmful.
What would you say to me about my little “experiment?”
Hopefully something along the lines of, “Sherry, if you wanted to test the oil, don’t you think you should have used the right amount--enough for the engine to RUN in the first place but not SO much as to completely DROWN it?”
And of course you’d be right.
Well, the latest example of “Sensationalized Science” has done something frighteningly similar to my motor oil story above.
This time the subject under fire and being blasted by the fear-inducing, panic-loving media is Vitamin D supplementation.
Here’s the scoop:
Vitamin D-friend or foe?
A recent “analysis” published in the journal Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology reported that Vitamin D supplements are useless against heart disease, stroke and cancer, and may cause more harm than good.
Note my use of the word analysis here—meaning this was not a “new” study but rather a rehashing of 40 previously published studies about Vitamin D.
This conclusion strongly contradicts several other recent actual studies that have shown that Vitamin D helps protect against heart disease (logically due to its role in mineral absorption and supporting the health of all of your muscles—your heart included).
Plus the researchers have also concluded that people taking Vitamin D supplements had an increased risk for hip fracture.
Again, this is in stark contrast with countless other studies showing Vitamin D’s importance to strong bone health and the prevention of osteoporosis and related fractures.
Hmmm…let’s dig a little deeper, shall we?
The rest of the story
Here’s what you aren’t told in the hyped-up, panic-instilling coverage of this issue:
The Vitamin D doses used in the studies analyzed (which were between 400-800 IU/day) were FAR BELOW what could be considered an effective dose! Effective doses recommended by health experts range from 1,000 – 4,000 IU/day.
So it’s no wonder they weren’t shown to be helpful! That’s about as ridiculous as my example above of putting a mere 1/2 cup of motor oil into my car and expecting it to run.
And get this—their definition of “useless” doesn’t mean the supplements had zero benefit. Rather, the supplements were “not shown to reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes, cancers, or bone fractures in the general population by more than 15 percent.”
Oh, so that portion of the population whose risk was reduced between 1 and 15% don’t count for anything?
As far as the hip fracture issue goes, the study subjects (all adult women) were given a MASSIVE 500,000 IU’s of Vitamin D, all in one single dose! That’s 125 times the recommended dose, all in one blow.
This is an incredibly inappropriate intake that the human body cannot absorb and process. Instead, the Vitamin D tidal wave was toxic to the bodies of the poor women and sadly an increased risk of fracture was the one of the end results. (Note that the increased fractures were seen shortly after the mega-dose but then declined in later months once their bodies had a chance to completely detox the Vitamin D overload.)
This is comparable to my example above where I flooded my engine with 50 quarts of motor oil and it literally blew up in my face!
And it’s also history repeating itself.
You may recall the ATBC and CARET studies from the 1990’s which examined Vitamin A’s role in the prevention of lung cancer in male smokers.
The studies were conducted with thousands of participants, including many doctors, taking ENORMOUS doses of beta-carotene every day for several years.
The results?
Not only did the concentrated mega-doses of beta-carotene NOT prevent cancer, but in many subjects it INCREASED the occurrence of cancer by up to 17%! Again, the massive, inappropriate doses were a poison to the men’s bodies and sadly, cancer was the result for some.
Now for the good news
Now let’s look at the good news—there are upwards of 34,000 published studies on the helpful effects of Vitamin D, plus there are over 800 references in the medical literature showing its effectiveness against cancer alone!
Here are some more of its impressive benefits:
- It’s associated with an improvement in muscular
control, especially in the elderly.
- It enhances mineral absorption and bone
mineralization, thereby helping to enhance muscle function and prevent
osteoporosis and bone resorption (loss).
- Vitamin D supplementation is strongly
associated with a notable decrease in the risk of colorectal cancer,
plus decreases in risk of other cancers such as breast cancer.
- It helps encourage proper immune
function—Vitamin D deficiency is commonly seen with autoimmune
conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel
disease and multiple sclerosis.
- It has shown to be helpful for improving mood
swings associated with seasonal affective disorders.
- Vitamin D supplementation has shown to be
helpful in reducing the symptoms of fibromyalgia and Crohn’s
disease.
- It’s even been shown to help counteract Type
2 diabetes by supporting pancreatic function to control glucose in the
bloodstream.
At this point you’re probably wondering what, if any, vitamins you should take, or if you should swear off them altogether!
Generally speaking, the average person CAN benefit from at least a good daily multi-vitamin formula. Here’s why:
Our food today is significantly less nutritious than the food our grandparents ate. This is the result of these factors:
- Bio-engineering
- Failing to rotate crops
- Nutrient-poor, pesticide and
herbicide-tainted soil
- Crops being picked long before they’re ripe
and shipped halfway across the world
- And now most recently, GMOs
And if your doctor has flat out told you you're deficient in a nutrient and has recommended supplementation, then by all means do what he says.
But the one very important thing to learn from this is that supplements CANNOT be your main or only source of nutrients.
That means that you can't exist on chips, soda, candy, burgers, fries, donuts and other junk and think that you're OK because you pop your vitamins every day.
Your body doesn't work that way.
Not only do fast food, processed food and other hard to digest foods not nourish you, but they also create a tremendous amount of acid wastes in your body. When your body is in an acidic state, it can't effectively absorb vitamins and nutrients, whether from food or supplements.
That means much of your supplements will trickle out of you as expensive urine and do you absolutely no benefit.
REAL is best
The more nutrients you can get from real foods in their natural state, the better nourished your body will be, which will help encourage better overall health.
Not only does this do wonders to help prevent of countless sicknesses and diseases (especially digestive disorders), but it's also essential if you want to maintain a normal body weight.
And just as important, it's vital to keep acid wastes to a minimum in your body. This will allow you to better utilize nutrients AND help prevent disease.
You can achieve both of these important goals by following the Great Taste No Pain health system.
The Great Taste No Pain manuals teach you the importance of a proper acid/alkaline balance, which will help maximize your absorption of nutrients.
They will also teach you how to pair foods and structure meals that are delicious, nutritious and are much easier for your system to break down, thereby helping to minimize acid waste formation and encourage better, more regular bowel movements.
And for you cooks out there, the recipe book is loaded with scrumptious real food creations that will make your body say thank you and your taste buds dance. There is not one recipe in the book that is just "average." All of them are truly delicious.
Now if you’ve got gluten issues, I haven’t left you out. Great Taste No Gluten is for you instead.

Probiotics can help too
If you've had a poor diet for decades or even days, chances are excellent that you've got some imbalanced intestinal flora in your gut—in other words, your inner intestines are an environment that favors harmful—not helpful—bacteria.
This is also especially true of anyone who has taken antibiotics or acid reducing medications.
Your friendly flora serves several important functions--assisting in the digestion of your foods, helping to keep your immune system strong, encouraging regular bowel movements and...
Enhancing nutrient absorption!
So to help make sure you're not only taking in essential nutrients (both in their natural form and in supplements) but are absorbing all you can, it's wise to supplement with a high-quality, multi-strain probiotic formula like Super Shield.
One of Super Shield's powerhouse strains, Lactobacillus acidophilus DDS-1, is considered the "gold star" of acidophilus--it even produces vitamins!
That's right--L. Acidophilus DDS-1 helps digest proteins and carbs, it "eats" excess cholesterol and produces B vitamins (including folic acid) as well as lactase (which helps reduce lactose intolerance).
Ask for the tests too
Note that you can also ask your doctor to do a vitamin analysis on you to see if you are seriously lacking in any nutrients.
If you are lacking, the best initial approach is to increase your dietary intake of natural sources of those nutrients.
After that, if you're still deficient, supplementation may be necessary as suggested by your doctor.
Now know this: If your doctor tells you that vitamin analysis either cannot be done or is not necessary, find another doctor who WILL do it right away--there are plenty who are happy to order this test for you.
NOTHING is more important to your health than proper nutrition.
Put the power of good nutrition and strong nutrient absorption to work for you and see how great YOU can feel.
To your health,
Sherry Brescia
I've been following your Great Taste No Pain plan and cannot begin to tell all that has happened.
I had some difficulty at first as I have had sixty plus years of eating in the same way and while your method was not very difficult at all, for about two days I resisted the system a bit by mixing the wrong combinations.
After about two weeks, I began to follow it more closely and the results were amazing. My stomach pain and severe constipation ended and to date I have lost twenty-one pounds without trying and have quite a bit more energy.
My knees were painful and now I don't even take the narcotic pain pills the doctor prescribed. It has been the best money I ever spent and I strongly recommend it to anyone suffering. It was a real bargain!
I found you in desperation by searching the Internet and I am a new person. I was just sitting and taking pills, now I do almost anything I want.
Thank you!
Larry
