Wednesday News Summaries and Commentaries

Well definitely some news worth reading today.....Abadi has a couple of names for Defense and Interior.....let's see how those names shape up against Washington and Parliament....will a special session be called to vote or will they wait until the 16th to do this business.

Urgent ..kira up to Baghdad

It is being reported this morning that Sec of State Kerry is in Baghdad and will be meeting with the "brothers Al"....with al-Abadi, al-Jaafari, and al-Jubouri and from the sounds of things they will be talking about security issues and dealing with terrorists known to be in Iraq at the moment.
....
Association of Banks: Company deposit guarantee its mission to maintain funds

The Association of Banks representing commercial, government, and private banks is urging the government to speed up the issuance of a law that will guarantee deposits made by customers.....this is more info overload meant for the new GOI...the Council of Ministers to address and get pushed over to Parliament for ratification....at this point the COM seems to be very willing to hear of these issues and is placing them in a priority list.....again a good thing. So we shall see what duration is needed to respond to such concerns.

Central agrees to exchange 10% of the deposits of customers in the Bank of the economy and investment

I am thinking that when the Bank of Economy was placed under trusteeship by the CBI back in June of this year, they also may have frozen depositors money at the same time....if so now it appears they are freeing up at least 10% of that money....time to grab it and put it somewhere more safe I would think.

Planning: We need two years and $ 150 million for the completion of the census

In order to perform a census, the Ministry of Planning is saying they need up to two years and $150 million dollars to get it completed....the last "estimated" census of Iraq had the population at 35 million a year ago.

Claims passes 2015 budget to compensate for the early stop projects

With so many major projects being sidestepped this year because of no budget, many are saying that the 2015 budget needs to be prepared early and voted upon early to get these same projects back on their feet as soon as possible....if the 2014 budget gets voted upon, it will likely be only to cover operating expenses for the remainder of the year....the lack of a budget for this year has created a definite lull in the Iraqi economy that has had some impact on all projects for the country.....as a good thing....most if not all seem to be focused on not making the same mistakes that the previous government and Parliament was guilty of making.

Hamidi calls for political blocs to expedite the enactment of a law infrastructure

Everyone has their opinion on what laws need to have the greatest attention at the outset of the work for this new COM....and don't get me wrong...they are all important...or they shouldn't be presented as law.....here we have an infrastructure law that will help with Iraqi housing if it is approved, that includes work with schools, hospitals, and general housing.

State law reveals a final agreement: Interior of the National Alliance and the Union of Forces for the Defense

An MP with State of Law says that PM Abadi has stated he will only need 7 days to bring names before Parliament for the positions of Interior and Defense Ministers.....he no doubt will get prior approval from his "handlers" before presenting to Parliament....he doesn't need reenactment of what happened to al-Shahristani this week.

To approve the establishment of a fund for the reconstruction of areas affected by the terrorist attacks

On Tuesday this week the new COM voted and approved the formation of a fund to reconstruct areas that have been adversely affected by terrorist attacks....all ministries will review action that can be taken on their individual areas on behalf of this same effort.....evidence of positive and unified efforts by the new government.

President of the Republic and the Minister of Finance revealed their net worth

It appears that President of the Republic and the new Finance Minister are leading the way in revealing their net worth as required by law in Iraq....now the rest of Parliament and other offices need to follow suit...chop...chop. Sounds like a worthy idea....especially if it is designed to identify any politicians who get their hands caught in the cookie jar over time.....where did these large deposits in your account come from all of a sudden.

Parliament urges the government to send federal budget for approval

The state budget for 2014...what a hot potato this has become over the months....but truly hot as of now it seems....maybe we have a COM and Parliament in place that can remedy any past concerns with it and get it passed....we shall see in the coming week(s).

The new government decided to activate the measures of deterrence against the corruption cases

In other business of the COM on Tuesday of this week, they agreed on activation of measures of deterrence with corruption cases....Abadi seems to be holding to his word on cleaning up Dodge...I mean Iraq from prior levels of corruption...more power and luck to him....they are also preparing a draft law that would create a National Guard within the provinces and regions...filled with local volunteers....they have given themselves 2 weeks to get this draft generated....I'm liking their proactivity thus far....just remember....follow through...follow through.

Deputy for National: Washington offered replacements to fill the inner bag

With Washington offering names as possibilities to fill key ministerial positions....al-Shahristani steps down from Minister of Higher Education....basically stating he has no desire for the position....letting it be known his choice was that of either Minister of Defense, or Oil, or that of Deputy Prime Minister.....his aspirations were lofty....but not to be met by Abadi and Washington at this time....he has no other desires to serve in this government he said.....time to pick up your marbles and head home I guess if you don't get what you want.

Kurdistan Minister: ‘The Kurds Had to Go to Baghdad’

The Kurds became a part of the new government this week....but they do so with expectations of demands being met this time around.....speaking around....they are tired of the run-around from the previous government and are looking for expecting significant changes going forward....they are also now expecting significant support from the US for their participation in this new government, especially when it comes to weapons and equipment to fight IS with going forward.

Expert: the formation of the new government will reflect positively on the Iraqi economy

The Iraqi talking heads are out and about and proclaiming that the new government will see a positive impact on the Iraqi economy in coming months...they see this being bolstered by a stronger market that is made more secure by political stability within the new government....the other positive aspect working in favor of the economy is the strong focus on unity for all of Iraq.....creation of new projects and new jobs are always good signs for an economy.

Shabibi .. Do you wait 350 years to remedy

Top notch article that proclaims the very excellent work of Dr. Shabibi during his time as governor of the CBI from 2003-2012.....his time there was not without issue but the good far outweighs any bad that can be mentioned.....he was a governor's governor always putting the CBI above and before anything else and this terribly upset Maliki and it finally cost him his job and to some degree his reputation.....the correlation to Galilei and the Roman Catholic Church for their eventual apology to Galilei which only took 350 years....is spot on....don't waste such time in apologizing to Dr. Shabibi.

Kerry announces Abadi ready to move quickly in the oil agreements with the Kurds

Kerry was quick to applaud Abadi's efforts to not only create and rebuild the Iraqi Army at the provincial and regional levels going forward, but for also being proactive in getting an agreement set with the Kurds over oil issues.

Kerry's visit to Arbil to discuss the three files

Kerry's next stop will be with the Kurds to discuss issues of the displaced citizens in their region, the current situation on terrorist fighting that concerns the Kurds and also the formation of the new Iraqi government....and the ways that they can look to resolve difference they have with the Baghdad government going forward.

Claims the Marshall Plan to save the Gulf states of the Arab Spring

Other Arab nations are calling for a new Marshall Plan to save them from violence that has beset them in the last couple of years....to the tune of $100 billion dollars...money to be spent on reconstruction and closely guarded to prevent misuse and misappropriation.....this will be interesting to watch to see if such a plan is capable of being mapped out for these countries and how successful it would be.

Moussawi: economic expertise to Abdul-Mahdi will help to resolve the dispute of oil between Baghdad and Erbil

Hopes of a new Oil Minister resolving differences between Baghdad and the Kurds.....is that possible....the new Oil Minister Mehdi has great expertise in economic policy making so there are great expectations with him....let's hope part of what he can negotiate is a new Oil and Gas Law....the HCL.

Provide jobs for 40 to 80% of the workforce

Getting the stopped projects back online again is a key function associated with the Iraqi economy as it is believed these projects put 40-80% of the workforce to work....that is quite a few workers who are currently idle.....get 'er done....they must be saying....just goes to show how important a national budget can be for its citizens.

Deputy: Abadi meeting today with the parties to the national and powers to nominate the ministers of interior and defense

PM Abadi is apparently working hard to get names approved for the Defense and Interior Ministries working into the night with political blocs.....I'm assuming that a topic of discussion between him and Kerry earlier today was potential names that should be put on the board for consideration by the blocs.....since it has been the US who has turned previous names down....let them point to who they really want in the positions then sell that to the blocs....again Abadi is saying he will have names ready for a vote within a week.

Abadi received names of candidates for the ministries of defense and interior

Hmmm....meet with John Kerry earlier in the day....meet with the political blocs that same evening....and out pops two names....insto-presto....al-Jabri from the Alliance of Iraqi Forces for Defense....and al-Arji from the National Alliance, Badr Organization for Interior.....let's see where these two names go.
