Saks shopper
finds letter pleading for help from Chinese prisoner 'in slave factory' hidden
in her bag from luxury store
NEW The desperate plea (pictured) was purportedly written by a
man claiming to be enslaved in a factory that was mass-producing the
distinctive department store's shopping bags in China. The prisoner, Tohnain
Emmanual Njong, said he was working 13 hour days to produce the bags and needed
help. DNAinfo New York managed to track down Njong, who has since been released
from prison. He said he secretly wrote five letters and was astonished that
someone actually found one. Saks - whose black and white cardboard bags are
iconic - have confirmed the carry-alls are made in China and that they are
investigating the matter.
