FBI Agent Leaves Car Running At Chicago Gas Station - Thief Makes Off With Car, 3 Guns & Tactical Gear

I'm seriously beginning to wonder about some of these people that work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  The latest screw up comes out of Chicago.  An FBI agent left an agency-issued vehicle running long enough for a thief to get in and take off with the vehicle, three guns and tactical gear.
According to Chicago police, the 32-year-old agent left a white Chevy Equinox running and unattended. That's when the thief jumped in and sped off.
The car was stolen from a Shell gas station on the West side of Chicago between Jackson and Morgan around 1am on Monday.
Frankly, this is a common sense issue.  One should turn their car off if they are leaving it unattended.  The gas station even had signs posted that reminded customers to turn their engine off and do not leave it idling.
Among the items that were in the car were a pair of Glock handguns (22 & 27), an M4, an FBI bulletproof vest and other tactical gear.
The Chicago Police Department and the FBI worked together to recover the vehicle and the items that were inside it.
Meiku Huang, a member of the West Loop Neighborhood Association, told ABC 7, "To hear that crime is coming in and people are stealing things, you know, not good."
Huang believes rightly that because of the theft more guns will be on Chicago's streets.
"I used to feel very safe and I have a dog and I walk my dog late at night and I always felt safe," he said.  "Now,  I have to ask myself.  Now, I have to always look over my shoulder.  I don't know if I like that."
Surveillance cameras are located all around the gas station and may have picked up an image of the suspect who stole the car, but police have not confirmed that yet.
On Monday, FBI Special Agent John Althen confirmed that it had found the stolen 2014 Chevrolet Equinox.
Chicago police tracked down the vehicle after a parking ticket was issued to it just two miles from where it was stolen.  The vehicle was parked less than half a mile from the FBI Chicago field office.
Officers called for a tow truck without searching the interior for the weapons and gear that were inside when it was stolen.
On Tuesday morning, around 10 am, a 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged in connection with the theft.  He was charged with one felony count of vehicular hijacking, one felony count of aggravated battery of a government employee and one felony count of unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle.
The FBI did not confirm whether the items in the vehicle were still there, but according to ABC7, "the FBI said in a statement Tuesday that the vehicle and its contents would be processed."
What's most ironic is that the FBI and CPD have been working to reduce gun violence in Chicago.  I'm betting we're going to hear about this agent's guns being used in a shooting pretty soon if they were not recovered in the vehicle.
